G-man is one of the most mysterious game characters ever. So my goal is to find out as much about him as I can. Type down anything about G-man which you think makes sense.

Wasn't he the Boss at black masa? I never played Half-life 1 but thats what I heard. But I think hes like...I don't know, a time traveler or a god or something. Maybe we'll never know, I think they could keep the mystery going until Half-life 3 before it starts getting boring, I just hope its not a let down and hes infact gordon

I'm assuming he's a stroke victim of some kind.

Also, he has a nervous disorder that causes him to constantly fix his tie.

And I'm pretty sure he votes republican.

He invented PI

But really, I don't know, I have my suspicions he is a computer projection.

You want theories?
He could be a government agent, but why couldn't the soldiers see him in Opposing Force?
He could be Gordons subconscieous, but why does he appear in Opposing Force and Blue Shift?
Truth is, we have no idea and that's all for the best.

No, the closest you can get to a boss is dr breen, The g-man entered the crystal that started it all.

Also an interseting quote "I tool the liberty of removing you of all your weapons, most of them were government propety afterall"

Here's my theroy. A man from Generic Government Agency of Saftey(herby refered to as GGAS) was sent to Black Mesa to oversee the teleportation experiment. While on the tram to the lab, g-man is possesed by Satan, the speech impediment caused by the mind of g-man trying to resist. Before the crystal can be carried up to the testing chamber, g-man carefully cuts the crystal so that it's resonance frequency can cause an event that opens a gateway to Xen. G-man goes into Xen and makes first contact with the Nihilanth, the emporer of the border world, G-man tells Nihilanth that Earth has intentions of destroying Xen, Nihilanth then orders all the Vortigaunt to attack Earth. The powers of Satan manifest just in time for G-man to A.)Be on a tram telling Gordon to go into stasis or be uber-raped by an army of monsters and B.)Be on a V-22 Osprey telling Adrian Shepard that he will be kept in a crazy intra-dimensional prison forever.

Half-Life 2:G-man, having better manifested his Satan powers, first takes Gordon out of stasis whilst shoving him through flashbacks, previews, and negative shading effects before dumping him on the next train to generic post-apocalyptic town #17. He fucks with you throughout the entire game, but only majorly steps in again when he saves your ass from an anti-matter explosion when you thought it would be a fun idea to throw vaporization balls at a teleporter.

Half-Life 2 E1:You and Alyx are still standing frozen in time on the top of an exploding tower, when some vortigaunts save you, no G-man to my knowledge. E2:G-man seems really pissed at the vortigaunts who saved you at the beginning of E1, also G-man freezes time again to stand over an unconcious and mortally wounded Alyx and implies that he kidnapped Alyx as a baby or something, tells a combine advisor where to find Alyx's dad.

He has been seen talking to scientists, soldiers and resistance workers, also a character made a certain reference that I don't want to allude further towards because I hate ruining such an excellent story.

In Half Life 2 you I think it might be the level after Ravenholme (Highway 17?) you can look through a telescope and see him talking to the leader of the rebels. Also I was more or less under the impression that he was some sort of mercenary. I think the G-Man says that he went to the highest bidder. I always imagined him going through all these different universes. A bit like an inter-dimensional A-Team, except he actually kills people.

The G-man is Gordon Freeman from the future. I'm not kidding either. Put a goatee on him with glasses and he looks pretty much like an old Gordon. My take is that he gets hive-minded later on and becomes the G-man, then goes back in time to make sure that everything goes according to the way it was supposed to..

Thing is, why does he speak like he has issues with English?

PS: Since i realized I am most likely going to get banned, i'll just accept that and take my punishment.

It would be serious overkill if you were, it hardly killed anyone...

EDIT: Eternally apologetic for using "kill" twice.

Don't forget Eli, he knows about 'our mutual friend' as he puts it. We also know that he meets with Colonel Cubbage. Whilst Barney and Shephard both have encountered him, although Shephard is still missing presumed ?

We also know that whatever he wants is different to what the Vortigaunts want, that he is at least partly responsible for the Seven Hour war and that a violent death seems to follow almost all who cross his path.

Personally I thinkl he's an evil Alien, that had a stroke.

Well, if Gordon is G-Man, Gordon can't talk as an adult so he'd obviously have trouble later.

G-Man has repeatedly remarked that he's been using Gordan in specific ways for the benefit of his "employers".

I'd always taken it that the G-Man is a trans-dimensional mercenary (after all the Xen come from another dimension, as do the Vortigaunts); he also mentions that he works for different parties at different times. G-Man is never cited as anything in the beginning of the first game except as the one that delivered the material used in the disasterous experiment.

Freeman disrupts the Xen plan in HL1; whether this was the original G-Man plan is debateable, however the Xen's enemies took advantage of it.

At the end of HL1 Gordan is offered a choice, and becomes a tool and is put in stasis until after the 7 hour war.

The G-Man's control over Gordan waxes and wanes as Gordan ventures towards his own goals, but unknowingly at the behest of the G-Man.

Wouldn't be surprised if there are more G-Men as some sort of organization.

My thought is he owns a sort of inter dimensional PMC, of which Gordon is an unwitting employee, and is contracted to make sure Gordon overthrows the combine on earth, and possibly altogether (i.e, in the other dimensions as well).

My thought about the speech issues is just that Valve wanted to make sure we knew he wasn't normal, because it might be less apparent in HL than in HL2, and by the time HL2 rolled around and Gman actually did things that were weird, the speech was already his signature.

I always figured G-Man was the direct result of combining a man and a G-String. Would explain his bizarre grin, if nothing else.

I don't think G-man is evil nessarily. I think he's more a middle man, he's certainly not on the side of the Combine, and is more interested in helping Gordon, or at least it came off that way in Eps 2 when he was talking about having to abide by certain restrictions. But, he's pritty pissed Gordon escaped him, Eli is G-mans revenge or "payment" for that escape.

I agree with alot of people here, I think he's a intergalactic mercenary, selling people to the highest bidder. I remember Breen saying he might "buy" Gordon from G-man for the combine, oviously he was kill before he could make his offer. But this brings up the question...who was employing Gordon to work for the rebels?

(Crist, someone needs to put up a spoilers warning)

I don't think G-man is evil necessarily.

I was never under any implication that he was evil. Strange yes, evil no.
I am actually really curious about the third episode, hopefully everything will come together and we'll see what has been truly going on.
