Anything Bringing it back to the SA series would be a step forward
tru that however E-102 Gamma is still one of my favorite Sonic Characters |
Muckraker Posts: 321 Joined: 5 Sep 2008 | I'll give you that, Gamma was good. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1522 Joined: 6 Sep 2008 | Stop treating the series like an Anthrophomorphic anime. Moar Speed. Less Gay. |
Muckraker Posts: 321 Joined: 5 Sep 2008 | Well yes the series should be more focused on speed, that's what Sonic Unleashed is for remember? |

Paperboy Posts: 44 Joined: 6 Aug 2008 | My opinion is get back to sonic's roots, a game that scrolls right. I mean really, with a bionic commando: re-armed style coat of paint the and the old school turned to 11 could breath a lot of life into the problems that riddle the 3D sonic offerings, lose the broken camera, lose the shallow collection oriented game play, (SA2 Battle I'm looking at you) and do away with unnecessary human meddling (Sonic X cartoon your who gets the death glare now) I really believe that trying to make sonic as pure no-frills fun and polish the core game play could give it new life also, Sonic Adventure was pretty damned amazing, so a continuation of that would be pretty fun. |
PROBATION Posts: 1009 Joined: 13 Aug 2008 | Stop trying to make the games into action adventure games like Shadow the Hedgehog, bring it back to the days of speed. Although I will admit that Sonic Adventures for the Dreamcast was a great game, that was because the Sonic levels were Sonic levels: fast, straightforward speed runs. The other character's levels were action adventure, and I think those were fun. But Sonic is fast, he should stay fast. I think the upcoming Sonic RPG is just going to bomb, but that's just my opinion. User was put on probation for: All your base are belong to us. (1 days) |

Instead of chucking out a new enemy and character ever time, try building off of the games better asked like MARIO DID/DOES. What with the iconic stars, and mushrooms and what have you. Bring back the chao, let shadow be that crazy maniacal yet lovable ball of death from SA2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfhZsqedLbk&feature=related "note, he sounds almost British to me" "As opposed to angst central", little touches like that that arnt the central focus of the game. I have more, but I mus go fo now, latas |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 919 Joined: 14 May 2008 | More levels like Speed Highway in Sonic Adventure 1 and the one with a million rails everywhere in space in Sonic Adventure 2. Edit: Make beating the game as Sonic mandatory and as all the other characters optional. No offense, but I do not want to have to go through another gem hunt quest or lame shooting platform game when I bought it for making Sonic running from place to place at unnecessary speeds. Also, that Adventure part in Sonic Adventure. Yeah, an Adventure (to me anyway) usually entails some sort of world you explore (like you had in Sonic Adventure 1) not exploring level 1 hey now lets explore level 2. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 387 Joined: 9 Jul 2008 | Lets face it, the time Sonic spent off made the transition to 3D more of a shock, unlike Mario who had been a constant, go figure. I don't even like the Mario series but Nintendo know their formula right. |
Muckraker Posts: 310 Joined: 7 Oct 2008 | What would make Sonic games better? Better level design. And a return to 2D platforming for the home console Sonic games. What would make a 3D Sonic game good? Nothing. I mean, really, if almost every 3D Sonic game was horrible, what makes anybody think Sega is even capable of making a good one? In fact, if you didn't like the DC Sonic games, there haven't been ANY good 3D Sonic games. Ever. Generalization? Yep. |
Muckraker Posts: 300 Joined: 23 Jul 2008 | I just had a bizarre though regarding control scheme. If the point of Sonic games is to mesh platforming with insane speed, what if you just controlled Sonic like a... race car? You know, like in Gran Turismo, PURE, what have you, where the analog stick is limited to steering, rather than total movement. And to move forward, just hold down the A button like it's a dang gas pedal. There go all your camera issues, because if all you had to do was hold down a button to keep moving forward, instead of adjusting the direction of the analog stick when you're suddenly looking at the course from the side or at an angle, then the camera could flip itself upside down for all I care and not bother me. Think of how much easier those big loops would be to navigate, when the camera insists on moving away from behind Sonic to a more "aweseome" viewpoint. Currently I wouldn't know whether to keep the analog stick held where I had it before or try to adjust it to match Sonic's approximate direction at the time, which constantly changes since it's a freakin' 360 loop. Holding down the A Button though? That's cake. |

Muckraker Posts: 344 Joined: 29 May 2008 | Sonic needs to be 2D. Or at least 3D in as much as Street Fighter IV. 3D Models on a 2D plane would be fine. Sonic has never worked in 3D. Not a single 3D Sonic game is as good as Sonic 2. |
Muckraker Posts: 263 Joined: 27 Nov 2007 | I totally agree, I truly believe in the 3D Sonic locked in a 2D perspective and letting the gameplay and level design back to their roots. I think a psuedo-3D Sonic from the Nintendo DS games is the way to go. |
Beat Writer Posts: 140 Joined: 2 May 2008 | The thing is that with everyone enjoying 3-D stuff, they DEMAND that sonic do that transition. However Sonic the orginal was 2-D with a selected path and you could not go anywhere else except up and down. Sonic Heroes (mind you this was a VERY Poorly made game) was all 3D and you had to run AROUND the area and sometimes run into mobs that you couldn't ignore. The fastest time I ever went was in the starting area for about a MINUTE going around some loops that you had no control over. Thus they need to make it with LESS mobs, (I shudder to say such a thing) LINEAR Paths, and FUCKING HELL NO LOADING SCREENS. |

This would be a huge improvement for the fast parts. It is, to all intents and purposes, how Spyro controls when charging, and works well enough there. |

Isn't that what they're trying to do with Unleashed? |
Beat Writer Posts: 127 Joined: 29 Aug 2008 | Dude, nothing Sega can do can save the Sonic games. Half of the things I see you guys complaining about I hear complaints about the games for NOT doing. Sega knows that Sonic Fans are more like the Red Sox fans and will keep on coming back to the game only to be disappointed and swear off Sonic Games forever only to come back thinking "Hey they'll get it this time!". Sega can do anything and attach speed to it and the fans will buy it. But of course when they come back to Sonic Adventure...the fans complain because it's not high-speed blast-processing. And when they just go back to holding right on the D-Pad and occasionally hitting the "a" button until the boss fight, other fans complain because that gets very old. Everyone has so many different expectations for the game I would personally NOT know what the heck the fans want. Fans are JUST as responsible for killing the Sonic Franchise as Sega and Sonic Team are. (And I am of course leaving the stuff you see on FurAffinity out of this argument) If oyu ask me the only characters they should remove are Big and Cream. I like Amy - keep her. She can actually DEFEND herself, if Robotnik is gonna try to kidnap her and hold her for ransom, she'd smack him in the nose with her hammer and escape, whereas Cream would be all "OH SONIC TAILS HELP ME HELP ME!". If you ask me if Sega cared at all about how their games were received and now how they sold, they should just make a new platforming game that no one has any expectations for. Just let Sonic go the way of Alex Kidd and Wonder Boy or just let him become a secondary franchise that people will recognize, unlike Space Channel 5 which isn't really known to anyone. I seriously believe Sega just cares about how well it sells...look at Shadow the Hedgehog. I went into a Target recently and found that game labeled "Greatest Hits", of course right next to much more well-received games like Shadow of the Colossus. It's obvious that those are based off of sales - if I recall, Valkyrie Profile and SHadow Hearts: Covenant were VERY well received but you had to go to eBay to find them within years. (HEck I only saw Shadow Hearts: Covenant in stores until mid 2005) |

But...Sonic's his name! And speed...it's his game! Heh. Improved level design, any and all chracters except Sonic as unlockables that can only be done after finishing the main game once at least, better controls (Sonic Heroes screwed me over more than once ;/) and bring back Metal Sonic. |
Paperboy Posts: 44 Joined: 11 Sep 2008 | I feel that Shadow needs some defending at this point. He was a good, evenly matched rival for Sonic, and he was really cool before they made him emo (which was in one game). He also had Chaos Control as a unique power before they gave everyone and their dog the ability to use it. As for making Sonic games better, they should really get a new storyline idea. Its really getting old. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 485 Joined: 22 Aug 2008 | I completly agree with the killing off characters. Theres a few i can name right now 'Rouge, Cream, Chao' and then theres the chaotix gang or something with the crocodile, chameleon etc. They all need to go and just stick with the originals that came from the Master System series. Knuckles ftw. they need him to go back into the prick role that he was in Sonic 3. |

Definitely, I blame Tails, if it weren't for him, we wouldn't have to endure all the crap characters that were thrown into the games throughout the years. Seriously, I don't even want Sonic in 3-d, give me a good side-scroller with speed and action and I'm a happy camper. I know this can work, look at the resurgence of interest in Mega Man 9. |

Muckraker Posts: 295 Joined: 27 Aug 2008 | I do not want to jump to conclusions, but Sonic Unleashed without the werewolf hedgehog bits. Maybe add separate paths like Sonic 3. High ledges for tails to fly to and maybe areas Knuckles can only access by bashing openings. Allow these separate paths to give you an alternate story/bosses. |

I disagree. just kill everyone who did not exist before they went 3d except shadow. |

YES. No voices, in fact I'd rather not even have much of a story either, that's what they tried to do in Sonic 2006 and they fucked it up, go back to the old character designs, they all look too top-heavy. And NO WEREHOG! It looks stupid! Ugh, too late... If they fuck up Sonic Unleashed I'm never going to hear the end of it. |
What do you think would make Sonic games better? (refering mainly to any 3D games)
Or in what ways would you change more recent Sonic games?
In my opinion they should re-cast Ryan Drummond as the voice of Sonic, he did an awsome job in Sonic Adventure and SA2. The same sould be done for the rest of the characters too; the voices in SA2 were the best.
And they should stop making more, and more new characters, re-use some old ones like Metal Sonic.
