Psychonauts was so unique in it's story and level design, a sequel could never capture that same surreal feeling, mostly because we are expecting it the second time around. I don't consider the ending a cliffhanger, the first game's story was finished. It's more telling us that Raz is now a real psychonaut going out on a real mission, meaning he achieved his goal. Also, I doubt there will be a sequel since the first game didn't sell very well. |

Agreed, the only use for a publisher to have this game released is to boost their reputation since critics loved psychonauts. But that would only be a publisher that has an assload of money but everyone hates. Even if all the original group got back together (which won't happen {in my opinion} just for one game), everyone who played the first would be sad that this or that got left out, or the new one isn't quite as good. It would still be a good game, just not when compared to the first one. Also, I voted the no answer, but I don't think that all sequels kill all series. Case in point: Soul Caliber. |

I played Psychonauts long before Yahtzee's review and found it everything he said it was; extremely strange and unique with a few kinks here and there, he basically confirmed a lot of these subconscious thoughts but also revamped my personal love for the game. It was one of the first games in a long time that felt like I was enjoying at least.../something/, for once (parallel to it I played FEAR for the first time...and IMO it really didn't size up in my mind, Psychonauts continued to call me, whereas FEAR was just the same old fight in the same old corridor...). Since then, for some reason I've repurchased the game on Steam and played it for a while again. And it's still fun, even if it's very old. I would totally vote for a Psychonauts 2, even if I knew it would be crappy beforehand, and especially if Tim Schafer was able to revamp it the way he'd want to (or I'd want to :P). Personally, I'd be hoping for a just as much, if not more, twisted set of minds to jump into and learn their secrets, a wider story (something that travels further around in the world, I want to know how far they'd take other supernatural forces if at all) and a bunch of tweaked/altered if not entirely new gameplay elements that really pulled it all together. But to be honest, if it were to be successful (for me) I think it would have to be a completely different game in all respects. The original really stands alone to me. Side note - Speaking of sequels like this, I got the same feeling of intrigue from Beyond Good and Evil, which I admit I became interested in after Yahtzee had something to say about it (I think I recall him pairing the two up in one of his reviews), so I'm quite interested to see what is coming of BGAE2. I really hope they don't frig that up...but crossing my fingers never helped any other production >_> |

The main appeal of the original was its originality, so bringing out a second game would likely draw attention to the limitations and inconsistencies that we overlooked the first time around. |

I was not as big a fan as most critics were of the first game, and I see no need for a sequel other than the cliffhanger ending. I beat the game in the span of a weekend, and never felt a need to pick it up again. Some of the dialog was funny, and I will admit to laughing my ass off at certain parts, but after the hundreth time you hear the same quip when buying healing items (that look suspiciously like faries from Zelda, with candy wrappers on) you just want to mute the tv and play like that. Infamous Scribbler Posts: 674 Joined: 20 Aug 2008 | I voted "meh" simply because I'm one of those twitch-driven players who doesn't give half a crap what kind of story is in the game if the gameplay itself isn't FUN. Psychonauts had critical gameplay flaws that were either ignored outright or glossed over (witness Yahtzee's review for prime example of latter). If a game is going to be story-driven I'd rather it be a game like Oblivion where the player is free to experience the story if he so chooses or can spend the entirety of the game playing Cabela's Skingrad Region Deer Hunter with a Bosmer armed with a Daedric bow. The story in that game was by any objective standard half-baked and cliched but Oblivion was in my view far and away 2006's Game of the Year. Moral of the story: If a game has great writing, that's just dandy, but it's not the first or even in the top five things I look for as a gamer. And because that last statement applies to the majority of gamers out there games like Psychonauts will never sell and their sequels will never get made. |

A while ago i read a review about a game called psychonaughts that apparently boasted fun times, entertaining story goofy unique powers and ALOT of hidden extras "im going to TOTALLY get that game" i thought.. a couple of years later i was reminded of this promise by one benjamin "yahtzee" crowshaw as he humorously added his 2 cents (or more) about this game.
Anyway to cut a long story (kinda) short i played it loved it got to the end and now am left with nothing to do.. after swiftly growing tired of searching for vaults bags and figments (i be colour-blind.. not fun) i found myself searching for other secrets of the game.. only to find none.. as i played i forever held the feeling that there was one more big twist or one extra explorable facet.. instead i just spent like half an hour cellecting invisible figments on that damned race-track..
i feel like a kid who just walked onto the set of sesame street to find out half of the scenes are cardboard.. dissillusion FTL..
anyway.. after watching the cliffhanger ending i was left wondering why a sequel was never produced after all this time. i mean there is always the lingering fear that schafer could fuck it right up.. but still it might be worth it to continue the adventures of razputin.. so my question to you is this.. would you like to see a Pshychonaughts 2?.. yeah or nah?
