I concur! |
Paperboy Posts: 36 Joined: 29 Jul 2008 | I'm getting Fallout 3 for the Xbox 360, since I'm a console gamer and the only PC games I play are MMOs, Team Fortress 2, and anything that doesn't come to consoles. The system requirements have to released for Fallout 3 and it looks like if you can run oblivion, you can run Fallout 3. Do a google search for "Can you run it?" and it can scan your system to see whether or not a game will run, so do a test for oblivion. You can see the detailed requirements here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallout_3 |

Well, that was an unnecessary comment wasn't it? |
Press Junketeer Posts: 354 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | 360. I considered getting it for the PC but: 1) I don't want to have to upgrade the computer I intend to replace in a year just to play it. 2) I'd rather enjoy the game rather than spending hours trying to remember which key does what. I can never remember if F is reload or if it's E, then I remember E is sometimes "lean right" and I worry that F may be the key that opens an unnecessary chat dialogue. Or is that M? I don't know, but I'm pretty sure the bracket keys will do something necessary to gameplay which will undoubtedly mean I'm going to have to choose between doing whatever the key does and aiming or moving. God forbid they make sense. R for reload, X to cancel, chat dialogue box removed from a single player game, etc. I can always reassign keys but then I find out that in moving one function to say the G key, another vital task is either not assigned or randomly assigned to Scroll Lock or something. Sorry, keyboard rant. I just don't think that a mouse and keyboard are suited for any game more complex than Doom 2. A mouse may be better suited for precise aiming (even that depends on what type of mouse) but the keyboard layout of most games makes the better aiming hardly worth the effort. Gamepad controls worked just fine for Oblivion, and I'm sure Fallout 3 will be no different. |

That's a good idea, at some point I'll rent for PS3. |

Mods have no real value to me (why scavenge some unproffesional scrap when I have a well designed piece of software to begin with?), I'd probably want use a 360 gamepad anyway, and graphical differences are negligible to the human consciousness. |

You have obviously never used the deadly reflex Mod in Oblivion. Or the Magicka regen mod for Morrowind. Or the better bodies mod for Morrowind. Or the Oblivion Overhaul mod for Oblivion. I'm saying, you don't seem like you've...well...USED mods. And I would appreciate it if you did before you insult them. Keep in mind Ubisoft released a crack made by a hacker to fix one of their games. |

Sounds like someone is in denial and trying to downplay modding. Everyone knows that there are mods out there that can rival the original product to begin with. Plus, they use the games source code anyway. Once you see "Ridable Dragons" or "Oblivion Overhaul" in oblivion you won't think "Unproffessional scrap". You're basically saying "Why make the game better if I have an OK game to begin with?!" |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1039 Joined: 10 Oct 2008 | My PS3 because even though mods are cool, I am sick and tired of Oblivion crashing when one mod conflicts with another. It is such a major pain in the ass finding out what mod is messing up another mod. First I have to turn them all off, them I have to turn them, on one by one until Oblivion crashes again. What a pain in the ass. I just want to play the game. Anyway, the major reason that Oblivion needed a mods was because of broken AI and that stupid ass NPC leveling mechanic. In FO3 the NPC's do not level with you at all. Some will be significantly weaker than the player and some will be significantly stronger. It will be more like Morrowind in that respect. Bethesda learned their lesson on that one and ditched it post haste. It was just a filed experiment. Very few of the graphics mods made it all that much better look either. I could run that game on max and Oblivion looked just fine. And yes, I have used Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. And many of the other mods. The best graphics mod to me was the Qarl's Texture Pack series. That guy is a sick texture artist! If I was Bethesda I would go headhunt that guy from where ever he worked and hire him at top pay man! As for the extra adventure mods I never got around to playing those either. There is just to much to do in the base game. Over 100+ hours of game play? I most likely never did all the quests in Oblivion that came with it and I wont do all of the quests in FO3 either. I play to many other games and have too much of life to play over 100+ hours of either Oblivion or FO3. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2949 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | FO3 has level scaling but it's different. There are "level zones" - if you go to a level zone of 3-5 and you are level 4, the enemies will be level 4. If you are level 2, good luck. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1152 Joined: 6 Jun 2008 | It seems as though I've been misunderstood. I'm not denying the quality of some mods it's just that I don't feel like sifting through them. Most are going to be crap. I didn't insult mods Aries, I said that they're unprofessional scrap. You're not about to deny that mods are unprofessional are you? I'd rather just enjoy the game I have and enjoy the next one when I get it. Not sift through garbage to find a few jury-rigged gems. I also do have mods, I currently own Halo Custom Edition which is an offically licensed platform for mods. |

Yah, but in Oblivion the player was never actually "screwed" like if they used Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul. Then they could be screwed just walking down the road! |
PROBATION Posts: 2827 Joined: 21 Aug 2008 | Yeah, it is really difficult going to Moddb and sifting through all the bad mods. Although I haven't seen very mods which are bad for games series like Battlefield or Half Life 2. And unprofessional? You must be playing in some strange alternate universe where you missed out on Team Fortress Classic, Counter Strike, Dystopia, Point of Existence, Eternal Silence, Desert Combat, Day of Defeat, The Hidden, and Natural Selection. Those are all games which I feel are just as or even more compelling experiences than the original games they came from! Why not try out the mods for an actually robust mod community like Half Life 2 instead of an unprofessional and dead community like the one for Halo Custom Edition? Haha...Halo Custom Edition. What a veritable lulz eruption! What mods have you actually played, Eldritch? I really want to know about all those unprofessional mods from all the PC games own that you've had to sit through. Hell, the free Halo mod for Unreal 2k4 is way more fun than any of the actual Halo games :o User was put on probation for: Poll: CoD: WaW. Its got major issues.. (3 days) |

You make it sound like it's hard to find good ones though, and that just because they are unprofessional or not made by the dev. team, that they are automatically not good. I'm not saying that you should get mods, but you really downplay how much they add to the experience. Heck, there are all those "top 100s" on sites and "Featured mods!" on filefront, etc. etc. - you make it sound like finding a good one is impossible. Even the simple mods are great, like new skins/models, or UI changes (which are great for games like Oblivion and Mass Effect). |

Same reasons really, i wouldn't want to play this on my console when i can have a much better experience on my PC. Ignore Eldritch, he clearing has no experience of real mods so he doesn't see the extra fun and life they can add to a game. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 415 Joined: 24 May 2008 | Mods are awesome, no getting around that. Bethesda, like Valve, has been very good in the past to the modding community. At this point, I would certainly get the PC version for that reason. Nothing wrong with those who don't like mods, but they are invaluable to the rest of us. |
Paperboy Posts: 24 Joined: 10 Oct 2008 | I wish my laptop would run it as well, i'll be gettin it for my 360. This does mean no mods but it goes back to the old Oblivion argument of well at least i cant cheat so maybe i'll get more from the game in that sense. |

Sorry if there is already a thread on this but I couldn't find it.
I have a PC and PS3 and want to buy Fallout 3 (well who doesn't?) but I can't decide which platform to get it for, generally I prefer RPGs on the PC but I don't know if my Graphics Card can take the strain.
I've got a Laptop nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX, will that give me good graphics? If it can only just run it I'd rather go for the PS3 version. I heard the nVidia GeForce 7900 series was ok but is mine ok?
But then someone said the PS3 has frame rate issues or something when it came to the game. Also if anyone has Oblivion for PS3 what was that like? Ok without a mouse?
What about you guys? What are you getting Fallout 3 for? And Why?
