Now I know this is possible, but is it a good idea? Does it work well? What do I need to be looking for? Is anybody out there doing it?

Bearing in mind I'm looking for something like a 19" HDTV to sit on my computer desk, not some monster 42" thing. The first one I've noticed is the Technika LCD19-907 cheapy from Tesco (sorry I can't find a decent link), I know its not going to be great, but will it do a good job of running my 360 and PC? My 360 is currently running through an SD set and my PC through a fairly cheap 17" monitor so anything which can replace both of those would be brilliant.

My uncle has a nice 20 inch TV that has a PC input and it works great. Or you could get a graphic card with an HDMI port so you could hook it up to any HDTV.

I'm running my PC and Xbox 360 through one of these to save having a separate TV and monitor at uni, and it serves me just fine. That said, I don't have any kind of HD output from my PC because I'm not a PC gamer, so I can't vouch for how well it deals with that.

If I were you, and I got a big tv for my computer, I'd be sure to mount it on a wall pretty far away. Just in case that hasn't occurred to you yet. If you have realized that then yeah rock on

Just to clarify, I'm talking about getting a small 19" one to sit on my desk, I've currently got a 17" monitor and have seen 19" monitors and am sure they wouldn't be too big.

It really doesn't have to be a TV: you can get VGA and DVI cables for the 360, so you could just search for a monitor with multiple inputs. Something like this, for instance.

There are also adapters, which is how I use mine.

I've seen the difference in just 2 inches, but would it really matter? 17" is already big enough for desk purposes.

Though if you play RTS or something I imagine dual screens would be awesome.

I was thinking of getting a VGA cable for my xbox, because at the moment all it's doing is elevating my webcam so it points at my face. Me need tv. Or VGA cable. Are these reliable, and where's the best place to get them, does anyone know? Thanks!

Don't bother with a HDTV, all they are are over-priced and shitty quality PC monitors. Seriously I saw a 24" HDTV more expensive than my 24" Monitor, and my monitor has a higher res.

I don't know where you can get a VGA adaptor but it really is the better bet.

I'm running on a samsung 67inch and I love it. Great for graphics work and gaming. That being said the 8800 nvidia series have a few problems with hdtv sets over DVI.

Depeneds on the generation. First generation 8800's aye true but the later ones had that issue fixed.

Don't know if we're on the same page here. The problem I had had nothing to do with generations of cards. It was a driver problem. It stopped the screen from being resized properly.

If all you want is 19", then get a monitor and use HDMI to DVI adaption for the Xbox; I do this on my 22" Samsung monitor and it works a treat.

*edit*

Sorry, that's assuming your Xbox is the Elite version.

Because a HDTV will have numerous inputs and outputs that your PC monitor will never ever need, including but not limited to; headphone sockets, s video, scart, hdmi, aerial, component. The TV has a decent set of speakers most PC monitors have none or very cheap weak ones. The TV has a receiver and decoder the PC monitor doesn't and finally the TV will only ever be needed to display 1080p res so why make it possible to display above it if no one will ever use it?
