I find trash talking to be worse on CoD4 than Halo 3 actually, but that may be because I play CoD more these days. I too set out on personal vendettas if I have to endure severe trash talking. I only play on Hardcore Team Deathmatch or Old School these days, so teamkilling/hunting a single player isn't really a problem for me.
I hope you tried to melee the bastard. Nothing's quite as satisfying as bone sawing a moron in the face. |

It's people like you that need to get pwned more often... |

Beat Writer Posts: 130 Joined: 29 Aug 2008 | I love going bounty hunting (as i call it) on COD4 Hardcore Team Deathmatch. Hardcore Team Deathmatch is all I ever play on COD4 cause I think it's the most fun. If someone pisses me off, I'll just hunt them down and focus on them for the whole game until they start complaining or crying or they just quit. lol I play Halo 3 a lot more though and I rarely play matchmaking. I usually just play an awesome game of epicness with a bunch of friends on a map I forged. I love forge:) |
Muckraker Posts: 227 Joined: 9 Sep 2008 | RSV2, CoD4, and Halo 3 are the games that I play with the most trash talking. To such an extent that I end up avoiding most PvP games entirely these days. I'm really excited for co-op modes of new releases in these next few weeks. Saint's Row 2, Fable 2 (eventually), and Gears 2 (I'll get it, didn't really care for the first game, though) |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 566 Joined: 18 Sep 2008 | Honestly, I thought the story in the OP was funny. Someone saying 'Don't move' when they (And you) know that you are totally going to. I think it adds an unexpected twist to the game. There is no 'surrender' option, so he WILL kill you...so the act of saying 'FREEZE!' or 'DON'T MOVE' could be used as a way to confuse the other player...I dunno, I think it's pretty funny/clever (admittedly more funny then clever). I used to do bounty hunting in Diablo (Yup, the first one), actually. The '/whereis' command worked wonders. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2229 Joined: 30 Jun 2008 | I've encountered trash-talking on numerous games, including COD4 where some kids were calling me "C(Explicit) On a Rag" instead of COR. Of course, if you want a real "don't move" Situation, ask any of the Jedi after order 66. |

Good one...Darn it, I can't one-up it....... The only fps I've ever played on multiplayer was Crysis, and people never bothered with communication there. They mostly just lagged, appeared and disappeared, and killed people by punching them in strength mode, so I've never experienced anything like the OP mentioned. |

Why thank you, good sir! :D |
Muckraker Posts: 306 Joined: 9 Jun 2008 | Real life example. When I was in highschool, I played paintball a lot. A guy once go the drop on me. He jumped right into the cover I was using and said "surrender". I said "no" and shot him in the coin purse. True story. |

I encountered a similar situation on counterstrike, for some reason a Team mate took an intense dislike to me. |

How? I've never played Counterstrike before, so forgive my ignorance. Wait, it's like HL2, right? Did you shoot him with a crossbow? |

No. CS is like an older version of COD4, and it has normal guns. |

I had some guy in TF2 yell at me once for being the last guy left in sudden death and not managing to protect the last point. Being a Spy, I doubt I could have anyway, and I guess he forgot that if he hadn't gotten himself killed, he could have done it himself. Some people just enjoy being jerks. Of course, if some engy tells you not to move, you could just obey him and tell a Spy on your team to sap all his stuff and backstab him. |

You earn +40 Respect points and a shiny new Mythril Dagger. It won't help your online play, but it's shiny. You have to sharpen it yourself though, in fact it's less a dagger and more a kinda...stick of metal with a handle on one end. And it's not mythril, it's cheap ass iron spray painted with silver. But you get Respect Points! |

Copy Clerk Posts: 98 Joined: 6 Sep 2008 | I.... might have done that once. Too bad the guy didn't hear me, as I was on COD4 team deathmatch. Might have been because i jut came back from airsofting. I snuck into a house, see, and there was a guy reloding. I was about 3 feet away. I screamed 'surrender' really loudly. It looked like he wet himself. 'twas truly amusing. Then his mates started firing. So I fired back. I didn't ask them to surrender. Ah, adrenalin, my freind...
I hate it when people do that. I just shoot them first if they turn. Serves them right, in my book. I tried mercy, so now I'll try violence. Think about it, he could have killed you, but he didn't. He showed mercy. So show him some respect, you little stinking @*%$. Sorry, that was unfounded. But it does annoy me. |
Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 10 Apr 2008 | Agreed with Madrak the Red. He gave you the chance to avoid a whole lot of pain and the danger of an injurie. I love paintball but i knew of a guy who didn't notice a sneaky ennemy and got shot in the back of the head with a concussion as a result. Another time i playd with a friend on differend teams and we both made it to a lagge tree, 1,5 m in diameter and we both refused the chance to surrender to the other one...when we both charged around the tree it resulted in about 10 point balnk hits at each other but a whole lot of fun and since we where the sole survivors we had to call the match a tie :) |

It has it's place and time truthfully, but it's quite like using cheats during single player (because it is cheating). It just takes away a lot of skill, strategy, and instinct required to do good at a game... If I knew "John was headed to bombsite B", I wouldn't run around trying to act "stealthy" and get the jump on him... I'd just camp... As for "Johns" shoes, he's trying his hardest to elude me, and confuse me into thinking he's somewhere else, or get the bomb planted and win the round... But since I ghosted, I know where he is, so I can just camp him, without even bothering to try and strategize. It's a noobs edge, over a newb. |

Hahaha, bounty hunting. I used to do that all the time on CoD4 PC, to the point where they'd accuse me and my compadres of hacking. It was a good laugh for everybody. |

I should elaborate on the example, because I do agree with you two that asking for surrender in SOME situations is a good/polite thing (the back of the head is a good example). But this guy did something really smart followed by something really stupid. I was behing cover (a wooden pallet turned upright between two trees) and he made the smart move of flanking me while I didn't see him. My back is against the pallet and he runs at me from the direction my gun was facing. It took no aiming on my part, simply pull the trigger. I like to think I taught him a life lesson, ask for surrender when it is strategicly to your advantage, not when a gun is pointed at you. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 399 Joined: 4 Sep 2008 | It bothers me on some shooters, that sometimes NPCs, like Stormtroopers, will shout 'Don't move!' but keep shooting anyway. It would be cool if you could obey, and then they'd come over, get close, then BLAM BLAM BLAM. Like GTA actually. Although sometimes the cops are overzealous on that. I was drunk driving, got pulled over. They got me out to arrest me and I started drunkenly staggering away, and they shot and killed me. I lolled, hard, but it was kind of annoying in retrospect. |

Whenever you kick someone's ass so completely thoroughly like that, they accuse you of hacking or being a fag or something along those lines...then they quit. lol |
Muckraker Posts: 331 Joined: 23 Apr 2008 | Haha, thats funny! You got held up in Team Fortress 2? What nerve. |

Then you use Gamemonitor.com to search for their playertag, track them down and whoop their ass twice. Rinse and repeat. Or maybe that's going too far... :P |
While playing TF2, some dude who was playing as an engeneer pointed his shotgun at me and said through his mic:
"Dont fucking move, bitch"
Confronted with this, I turned around and attemped killing him. I failed, but respawned and killed him later.
Have you ever been involved or saw a sad episode like such?
