It's still on thier website: http://www.activision.com/index.html#gamepage|en_US|gameId:ghostbusters&brandId:ghostbusters I can hope! - J EDIT: Hm... seems that it's now due to come out in 2009 via a different publisher, or is even that news outdated? |

Have to agree here. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2949 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | They are gonna put co-op in it. Yay for the return of being able to play with your friends on something other than a Wii and Army of Two. Also, Ghostbusters isn't cancelled, it's in Limbo. I know some people working on the game, they are finished - they just need a publisher to pick them up. |

Let them know everyone here at the Escapist is willing to find CEO's and do despicable, terrible, humiliating things one would usually only do for Crack if it would help them get published. |

This, Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age, and Prototype. They also canceled Brutal Legend and Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena for it. |

no it cant be... I bet Brutal Legend was also dropped in that meeting |
Muckraker Posts: 263 Joined: 18 Sep 2008 | The reason why the Spyro series sucks now is because the original developers aren't working on it. Way back in the PS1 days, Spyro the Dragon was Insomniac's favored series. This was back when they were with Vivendi. When they left to work for Sony they couldn't take the Spyro series with them. So they went on to create Ratchet & Clank while Vivendi kept Spyro...and started crapping all over the franchise. The first three were made by Insomniac, all the games after Year of the Dragon weren't...And you can tell because that was about the time that the series started to get shittacular. The general rule is that once another company takes over a game series, that series degrades in quality. It might not always start to totally suck, but the new ones aren't as good as the old ones by the original developers. It happened when EA took over C&C after they closed down Westwood. It happened when Vivendi took over the Spyro series. It happens every other year when Treyarch takes their shot at Call of Duty. The new people just don't know the license as well as the original creators, and thus start to fuck it up. The new Spyro might LOOK good, but it is easy to make a game LOOK good in trailers. Look around and I'm sure we can all list numerous games that LOOKED awesome, but turned out to be just decent or worse once we got our hands on it. To me, the Spyro series is sorta like Sonic and Megaman: WAY past its prime years, but the company keeps desperately trying to make the magic lightning strike once again by spamming new games that, ultimately, are no where near as good as the first few ones. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1332 Joined: 7 Aug 2008 | I actually cringed at this. Half the appeal to Spyro was that it didn't take its self seriously, and was a bit of a laugh, but this looks odd. And the graphics!?!?, They should just used updated graphics from the PSone. |

Sonic just jumped the bandwagon. He's facing "THE BLACK KNIGHT!" (Who's actually purple) |

Beat Writer Posts: 164 Joined: 30 Apr 2008 | It all seemed so weird to me. Part of the Spyro games' appeal to me was that while they were your "typical" adventure-style game, they were bright and colourful and fun to play Plus Spyro looks too weird in those CGI scenes. =\ |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1522 Joined: 6 Sep 2008 | 1. Why is it always so ham fisted? The Dark Master is back onoz! Are we really expected to take this seriously? I didn't take this shit seriously when I was 12. Maybe because unlike most of the artard kids i'd actually read the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit... 2. Anyone else notice several scenes were DIRECTLY ripped from LOTR? As in, lawsuit pending ripped? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 82 Joined: 13 Oct 2008 | The thing is I thought that Spyro was already dead? It's no longer being mentioned anywhere in gaming media besides the release calenders. Megaman and Sonic have managed to actully stay in contact with people and thus are not dead but very badly beaten screaming please kill me. Last time I've heard of a good Spyro game when I was 4. If you go 11 years without making a GOOD release in a franchise don't you think its time to kill Spyro? Maybe it will surprise at the end and kill Spyro. I would buy the video game if it meant I get to see Spyro finally killed off. Also anyone else think the narroter at the start of the video said "Even in the darkest of times. There is always Soap" instead of "There is always Hope"? |

A good thing this game is exactly that. EXCEPT THE OPPOSITE. |
Beat Writer Posts: 183 Joined: 5 Apr 2008 | /big sigh. I'd have to go with everyone else here and kindly ask the developers to let this franchise be buried and rest in peace. But in all fairness I will sadly give this game a try. one last chance to redeem itself. Of course i can tell already it's not going to be the first 3. The LOTR like scenes and the fact it's trying pathetically hard to take itself seriously has already lowered my expectations of it, so if it can make itself half-way decent it'll deserve a pat on the back... before being stabbed in the same spot. |

Would it really though? It would seem like Assassin's Creed with all the cool bits taken away, with 100x more useless cutscenes, and instead of playing Altair you play Spyro. That little purple dragon from the 90's. But it might be cool instead of playing Sypro you play Generic Evil Guy on the plot to kill Spyro. Hmm why am I so liking the idea of killing off Spyro? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 6463 Joined: 30 Jan 2008 | To those who want to see Spyro dead - why don't you want him to get a game made by Insomniac again? Wouldn't them making a decent game again be preferable to just killing the character off? And its not like they couldn't do it, they're juggling two brilliant series at the same time right now. |

Because Insomniac don't want to? The reason they left Spyro was because they felt like there was nowhere interesting left to go with the character. The abysmal fucking pain that was Enter the Dragonfly proved them right. |

I hear they were delaying prototype indefinitely, but I never heard that they had actually shut down the project. I thought they were just leaving it alone until something happened (not sure what that something is). Are you sure they actually canceled prototype? Cause I was looking forward to that. |

They also can't, because I'm pretty sure that they don't own the rights to Spyro the Dragon anymore. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1177 Joined: 10 Nov 2007 | Far as I know, they never did. Universal always owned the character. I very much doubt Universal would have farmed Enter the Dragonfly out to anyone else if Insomniac hadn't already walked away from the character though. |

Disturbingly enough, Army of Two'd demo doesn't have the chance of playing co-op. I mean, split screen, like you said, with friends. I hope the game is going to be good. Because I loved Spyro, and I haven't really played any of the PS2 titles, but I heard they were terrible. Let's hope this generation can save it. |

What? No, Prototype caused them to cancel Brutal L:egend and Ghostbusters. Its the bad game in this equation. |

This is my response to any old series that keeps comming back and gets worse every time. Spyro is a prime example. On the PS1 it was one of the greatest platformers out there, even if the third one slipped a little.
And yet on the PS2 it died. I cannot name a single good release since Year of the Dragon.
But... The trailer for the new Spyro actually looks rather... decent!?. I mean excusing the obvious LOTR references, it appears that maybe they are going for the original audience of spyro (which while enjoyed by alot of older players was originally a kids franchise) who have grown up into adulthood now?
What are your thoughts.
