Indigo_Dingo: So, Eggo - what part of being able to actively customise every part of the environment of said game makes it anything less an SDK? To put this another way, LBP is a much more powerful version of Garys Mod, but with the interface done with Script Bunnies. The results are better, and its easier to use - and yet you claim its somehow inherently worse, by virtue of it being easier to use.
Gary's mod isn't an SDK either. LBP is the development equivilent of Lego.
Will it be proper fluid dynamics with water flows etc or more of a water table were anything below a horizontal plane has deferent properties. Like wood floating etc.
Will they be charging for the updates (I dont own a PS3 so I dont know if they do the microsoft thing and charge for DLC) because if they do you can be sure that it will open the flood gates for clones and immitators trying to chew down on the new cash cow.
oAmadeuso: Water? Well thats going to be interesting.

No idea, sorry. All I know is "Water".

I dunno whether it will be considered as DLC (and even then, whether it will be free DLC or paid for) or whether it will be considered as an update.
But what does that last bit mean? I can't tell what you're saying.

Hes saying that more companies will start charging for they're supposedly free updates.
I've played WoW for a year or so and don't remember any non official update that you had to pay for.
Could you expand a little please?
I think he means the various imitators of World Of Warcraft which have copied the formula and then used it to milk the maximum cash potential out of it.

but you underestimate all the stuff you can do with legos.
I was in the LBP beta, and I have to say I didn't think it was going to be all that great either. Most levels were incredibly short, and incredibly boring. However, I got to some cool levels where people basically worked out every kink, and made it huge and amazing.
I still wasn't impressed however, but then I decided to make my own level. I thought it would be outrageously hard, but it was so easy and fun to create things. The beta ended and now I've got a LittleBigAddiction. The gameplay isn't just like Mario, you can do WHATEVER YOU WANT with it.
Examples: I created a Quiz stage, and put a four-life spawn point in it. I then placed five levers throughout, I created a game show host, and gave a possible answer at each lever, pull the wrong one and you start on your next life, and if you get them all wrong, well then, you lose the level.
And of course, one of my favorite parts is that you can create your own vehicles, and even use it to make music as seen in the Sweet Child O' Mine stage.

Garry's Mod is not an SDK and even if you consider LBP to be a more powerful version of Garry's Mod, LBP is still not approaching what you can do with an SDK.
Unless of course, you can make something completely different from vanilla like you can with Source:
This doesn't mean at all that LBP is a bad game because of it; I just want to see some honesty about what this game can actually do and not do.

1. What Mod is that? D:
2. From what I see it's a fun little Lego game- you can assemble anything that relates to simple physics. Sure you won't have high performance jet fighters or lightsabers or anything, but they have made cute levels where you guide, say, a blimp through obstacles using levers (overhead perspective). It's just a cute fun game from what I understand- NOT the Kwizat Sadderak (+1 spice cookies for reference) that will kill all future platform games, but a fun game none the less that will probably be one of the must haves of it's console. I dunno if it'll be one of those games people play for hours on end- probably not- but I can see people hopping on for a quick level or two once or twice a day.
Eternal Silence; it's really fun but I'm rubbish at the space combat and so I stay in the ships :]

Unkillable Cat: OK I dont own a PS3, but Ive seen a fair bit about little big planet. So far everyone seems to be going nuts over the game, but Im struggling to see why. I know it has great graphics, ut other than that I cant see anything overly ground breaking from the trailers and previews. To me (and I know I could be wrong) it looks like a cross between mario and lemmings, where you have to make half the game yourself. What is it about the game that has everyone so excited?
I think we're the only two people in the world that think the same thing. I've seen previews, trailers, FAQs on it, everything. I see the appeal, I just don't think I'd enjoy it like everyone else would.
Same, It looks an intresting concept, but I couldn't play it for to long, It dosn't seem to have much lasting appeal. If you want to make a mod that badly use SDK, its dead easy to use.
The "big deal" about this game is the sheer amount of custimization and edibility this game has. Every single level in the single-player portion of the game has been made with exactly the same tools that you are given.
I'm guessing you meant how much the thing can be edited to suit almost every gamer's preferences. Yeah, I don't know a proper term for that too.
This game will be big. If Spore is anything to go by, the sheer amount of imagination this game will spawn will be one of its selling points.

Dune I claim my trippy spice cookie.
*give cookie* It is by will alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the juice of safu my thoughts aquire speed, the speed becomes a stain, the stain becomes a warning, it is by will alone I set my mind in motion.
Anyway, on topic, game looks warmhearted- the sort of thing that makes you feel like a kid. I don't have a ps3 and i'm not getting one but I hope it does really well, because games like this are rare and should be rewarded.

TheNecroswanson: Q: What's the deal with LBP? A: In the longest time, it's the only game built with the soul intent to HAVE FUN!
I found Mario Galaxy, BioShock, CoD4 and GTAIV kinda fun, to be fair.
*facepalm*
How was Bioshock pure wholesome fun i ask you?!
Because it was exciting, atmospheric, intriguing, frightening and occasionally almost moving. That's my idea of fun. I'm not slating LBP because I haven't played it. But the fact is I love the games I listed because they're fun for a variety of reasons.

I'll give you Mario Galaxy. The others, no chance - each was far too stuckup.
Hachura: Yeah I was surprised when it rated higher than Far Cry 2 on IGN's "What Oct 23 release are you looking forward to?" poll.
...honestly, why? What does Far Cry 2 really have going for it? Don't get me wrong, it sounds good enough (I'm gonna get it), but matching this?
Oh no, someone on the internet has a different opinion to you! LBP/puzzle platform just isn't my cup of tea, whereas FarCry 2 could be one of this year's best FPSs, with a 50km2 map, destructible environments, the best map editor I've ever seen for consoles and FLAMETHROWERS(!). If a game doesn't match those 4 criteria, then count me out.

My criteria for an FPS are slightly different. I look for mega replayability, a gripping story, satisfyingly awesome weapons and interesting enemies. So Far Cry 2 is about the third best FPS of the year for me, behind Fallout 3 and Resistance 2.
Well, if you are the kind of person who thinks Super Mario still is the best game ever, LBP will rock your world. I am not one of those people, played the beta a few hours and it bored me to bits. My exitement dropped from "day 1 purchase" to "saving my money".
I'm sure there will be a big community, and lots of people will like it for the cutesy looks and simplicity, but i'm not sure the game will last long before people move on to say, more "sophisticated" games. It will be a decent game, just not the PS3's flagship ZOMG-MUST-BUY title.
From my point of view LBP seesm like Garrys Mod in 2D with most of the randomness and all of the making-fancy-weaponds-and-blowing-each-others-faces-off removed...

No, its still got that. LBP can spawn a Combine Dropship as well, cept I can rig it so that it drops cakes. And the Headcrabs are all Afro wigs.
Come to think of it, I wonder how long before someone makes a Gordon Freeman sackboy? And how long after that till Valve throws a hissy fit?
I'm a bit uninformed, but this seems like the biggest hype ever for a game that the premise is Sims combined with one of those city-building games that PC ppl jerk off to.
I love how hype absolutely skews peoples minds. So many think that just because a game is hyped that they MUST buy it, or that it's the second coming (again) - and if they didn't like a beta or a clip on a website - then it is instantly "failure failure failure!"
Interesting claims from review sites:
Over in the UK, the first major publication review came from The PlayStation Official Magazine (UK), which gave the game score of 10/10, calling it "a beautiful elegant and powerful creative took that puts unlimited potential in the palm of your hand". The review concluded that it empowers you in a way that was previously confined to the PC modding scene and actual game developers, and you would have to have a 'sack for brains' to miss out on this one.
Obviously that is very exaggerated but hey for the guy who's freakin out about Far Cry 2, you get a map editor. On all versions too.

Oh so....you're interested in a map editor but not in a game that lets you edit all the whole game itself? Alright made sense.
Sorry about the sarcasm but "it just isn't my cup of tea" just doesn't buy me :/. Now if you could expand...that would be a different story...
