I've been alive long enough to have observed (with a brain developed well enough to offer good memory) an acceptably large period of gaming development, and I find myself now looking back on all those years and thinking of which year offered the widest range of the best games.

What, to you, was the biggest year in gaming development? Which year did the most to enhance graphics, storyline, game mechanics. Which year spawned the strongest genres that have since swelled into planet-sweeping phenomenon?

To me it was 1998 - the year that bought us Baldur's Gate, Half Life, Unreal, the amazing Grim Fandango and, let us not forget, the 'original' football game: Fifa World Cup 98

Which ever year Ocarina of time came out. that game is in my top 3, and shall always be there. I also agree with ultrajoe, this year is amazing for games.

2008 is the best year for games (following closely: the years Donkey Kong Country 1&2 and Tomb(i/a) 1&2 came out).

When I first clicked this thread I thought it said "Anal Awesomeus". Needless to say. I thought it would be about something different.

And I agree with Utrajoe, '08 makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy that so much good stuff is coming out, sad that I will never be able to afford it all.
