Gone Gonzo Posts: 1525 Joined: 6 Sep 2008 | You can get it off of Steam now dirt cheap. It's a good game, the graphics aren't too horrible considering it's 7 years old. The story is excellent, the dialogue is great, there's alot to explore and sidequests to find. It's not perfect, mind you, while some decisions have longlasting effects down the road, alot of decisions are uhm..shallow or unimportant. Also some skills are more useful then others. Hack, Lockpick, Electronics, Rifles, pistols all = viable. Heavy weapons just have such rare ammo... Also, your gonna wanna focus your mods onto a few weapons and ubur them out. Swimming is useless except for one or two situations. |
Beat Writer Posts: 196 Joined: 24 May 2008 | It and System Shock 2 are among the greatest games I've ever played, and certainly the best shooters I've ever played. Not many in the RPG genre that do such good storytelling either. Worth buying; I found it by sheer chance and it's one of the best finds I've had (though the 'luck' part is pretty watered down now that you can just download it from steam). The game lets you deal with situations in a variety of manners, so no one development path is 'best,' just stick to your play style and pick upgrades that suit that, or try something new if you want. Better to focus on about 2 weapon types and 2 of Hacking, Lockpicking, electronics than to be a generalist in all weapons/security abilities, but you can generalize if you want. In a way, I do wish the gameplay was a little less linear, but they still did an excellent job with it. |

I had to abort about half a dozen new games before the bug seemed to just wear itself out |

Beat Writer Posts: 196 Joined: 24 May 2008 | Also, beware if you try going the pacifist route (i.e. no killing) with the terrorists early on, you'll be short on stun ammunition. You HAVE to do a lot of stealthing, get very good with the Baton, or cheat (does that really count as cheating if all I did was spawn Stun Prod ammo? the single most useless ammo in the game?). |

Debateble since when stun prod doesn't knock out, it well...stuns. I found it the most useful melee weapon because you go ZAAAP and they spasm then you go ZAAAP again and they passout. No running, screaming, or shooting. Also point out that if you do what I did, that is, go through and systematically knock everyone out, it seems to think you took the approach of force. To truley get the non-lethal story options you gotta be careful who you zonk out. Eventually though non violence gets to be a huge hassle about the time OMG SUPER SPOILER DON'T READ and I got impatient and just started greasin sucka's. |

Muckraker Posts: 241 Joined: 22 Sep 2008 | Deus Ex: the only I game I get fanboyish about. I f-word-ing love this G-D B-F-ING game. Ironically, I have a hard time recommending it to my close friends because I know I'll simply go on and on about how awesome it is and thereby create ridiculous expectations. I mean, I feel like the hyperbole is warranted, but still. I guess I'm just super protective of the game and my experience with it, which is kind of weird because I, like a lot of people on these forums, have little to no time for people who have such, frankly, irrational and immutable positions. But dammit, this game is my favorite. |

Beat Writer Posts: 196 Joined: 24 May 2008 | yeah. It is rather hard to get the 'pacifist' result from the terrorists. Even the time I killed no one, I evidently stunned enough people which the game then considered 'kills.' A little annoying, but more than forgivable for the rest of the game. Usually I just whip out some firepower if I blow my stealth. |

This is exactly what I was thinking. Except that where Stephen is joking, we speak true. Seriously, I just did a play through a few months ago and typing this makes me want to play it again. Every time I play it I'm astounded at how huge the game is and how awesome it is. |
Paperboy Posts: 11 Joined: 9 Aug 2008 | Well I'm not much of a PC gamer, but I stuck this game in for the first time, it must have been a couple of months ago.. And I had a blast with it, played it for hours on end each day, until I beat it of course.. |

Ditto, but i might get it, now that you remind me of it. |

I did that too. You only get 'told off' for excessive force if you zonk out the guys that surrender. Anyone else is fair game. |
Beat Writer Posts: 150 Joined: 10 Aug 2008 | It was a great game. I played it through on the 'realistic' difficulty and It took a good 40+ hours. The non linear feeling and the rpg elements with the nanomachines was brilliant. Why they dumbed down all the best parts for invisible war I don't know. |
Muckraker Posts: 232 Joined: 18 Jun 2008 | I've played Invisible War and was surprised by how underrated i found it. It was an altogether enjoy experience. Yeah, its plot twists were more like knee crunches but the ideas and endnd sequence were so good that I forgave it. I am interested in the first one, now. XD |

I originally thought Invisible War was an awesome game, but that was before I played the first Deus Ex. |
Paperboy Posts: 15 Joined: 15 Oct 2008 | yeah utterly loved deus ex was just suck a fun experiance and yeah the first level is a bit of a "kill of teh bad guys" snoozefest i took the sniper rifle and systematically eliminated EVERYONE with no great difficulty but still love that game so much kinda says it all when i can go back through that game and still remember all the passwords and codes lol |

Hey, its on the list of games I own but have never got past the first level (like SS2)... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1980 Joined: 11 Oct 2008 | Easily one of the greatest games i ever played, and i played a lot of them. If you never played it you should, the shear level of dept and all the conspiracies are mind boggling. Just amazing. Of course it had it's quirks but in all seriousness which game doesn't?
Trolls tend to be exterminated by mods around these parts.
*facepalm* Go and play it right now, don't think about it just do it.... DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! NOW!!! |

I'm sorry silly child but not blindly following the rabid, zombie fanboy base going HALO! GEARS OF WAR! GOD OF WAR! SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS because i have, you know, this thing you don't - taste , yes, that's it - , is invalid reason to personally harass me. First of all reported. Second i wasn't referring to your opinions on this thread right here because you know what? Your opinion matters squash to me. I was referring to the thread a guy did on ranting about FF7 and you went asylum crazy on it and derailed it to a lock. Although you mention halo which is pretty ironic. And ....what mail? |

No i report you because of name calling. What storm? And you know those "counter-reports" only make matters worse, they bring more attention to the case and you clearly don't want that because you threw the stones first. Edit: Oh how delightful! You actually mailed me!
You actually went to the trouble of emailing me that? Your words, not mine. |

I'm the immature one and yet you're the one using words like "dude" and smiley faces. Again you're trolling, there's not much else to say about it. But how about this, go in front of a mirror and self-reflect (PUN MOST DEFINITELY INTENDED) on who you are and how you present yourself to other people on the intertubes. Maybe that will help you a little. And again no |

what are your thoughts on Deus Ex? the original, not invisible war.
