fish food carl: Bugger. Can assisting characters die if they just vanish? Because my trusty Jericho disappeared while I was helping my father, and once I took the scientists to the Brotherhood's Citadel, he died. How did that happen? And, is there any way I can get him back?
After playing the game for quite a while (still not completed the main quest though), I've started to more and more wish that Black Isle's "Van Buren" would have been released instead of this one...
Can someone explain to me why I seem to repeatingly miss with a shotgun when I'm standing half a foot away from a super mutant? (I'm aiming manually by the way)
I understand that your skill with various weapons is reflected even when you're aiming manually but this doesn't explain how I can constantly miss when standing at what is essentially point blank range with a shotty.
After that, if I do manage to land a close range shot it seems to do absolutely pathetic damage compared to if I'm standing a good 5 feet away.
Someone explain to me why I'm being punished for using my own marksmanship and FPS skills rather than letting the computer do all the work?

Do you have a save file that you can use? Otherwise I think you might be bonked, try getting out on the open and use the wait system for 24 hours, if that doesn't work I've no idea.

If he's dead, as in killed by an opponent, he's worm-food. You'd have to revert to a previous save to recover him. (Just as I did all those times that Dogmeat rushed into the grenade I'd just thrown... no, Dogmeat, no fetch, bad dog!)
If you've just lost contact with him, after a day or two you can meet up with him again at a system-set rally point... I think Jericho rallies to Moriarity's bar in Megaton.
No, it definitely said he was dead. I don't really want to reload a save when we were together, as that would set me back a long way. Now, when can I recruit Charon? He sounds a lot like Jericho.

I think you can recruit him anytime by buying his contract from Azrukhal, in the 9th Circle of Underworld. (Man, that sounds so Oblivion don't it?) IIRC there isn't even any Karma requirement, you just have to have the caps.
What are the main cities, for quests? I have been to Megatron, Girder Shade, Little Lampshade (sort off), Big Town, Rivet City, and the Brotherhood of Steel Citadel. I have also been to Tenpenny Towers, but after killing Tenpenny, most of the guards and all the shop keepers, they aren't to happy with me.

That's weird... I killed him, nicked his stuff and threw his corpse over the ledge but the residents & guards all love me and haven't even noticed he's gone... And this was BEFORE I decided to kill all the ghouls because their leader was being a total ass.

I dunno, I go near and get shot at. I did admittedly kill all shop keepers, named NPCs and Tenpenny, and walk about in his robe when I go near there.

And I just had a pretty cool idea for some dlc or something - your character can become a ghoul!
Someone already beat you to it. I've seen a mod where you can choose ghoul as a race, and another where you can choose to play as a little kid.
*sigh*, I have the Xbox version. I would prefer an official version anyway. Mods just don't rub me the right way...
'Official versions' are mods :\. Just payed mods instead of free.
My problem with mods (at least for good games, and Fallout 3 is perfectly fine out of the box, imo) is like this - you're at a restaurant, and the chef lovingly prepares you a delicious meal. But then when it is served to you, he is appaled when you add your own ingredients and spices that you brought with you. It's like saying the game isn't good enough. It's kind of insulting to the devs, in a way.

Ah. I only killed TP. I don't intend to murder anyone who I can trade with :P Though tbh I'm loaded now.

On the other hand some people spend months doing some mods and if that isn't showing that they like the game I dunno what is. Mods aren't there because the originally game sucks, it's because people have different tastes, for example Fallout 3 textures are horrid, and this isn't because the devs decided to make it that way it's because the game would be too demanding technical wise for the average consumer but there's still lots of people out there replacing the textures with better ones.
Another example is how the game doesn't let you kill children, if it did the ESRB folks would be all over the game like a fat man is all over on cake. But there's still people out there modding it so you can, as sadist as it can be if it was my game I'd be proud to know that people care about it. Heck a friend of mine is working on a overhal to make the game ridiculously hard, enough for a bullet to the head to kill you. Only a dev with an aneurysm would put that tweak in a mainstream game because the casual crowd would say the game is ridiculously hard...
And Fallout 3 isn't really perfect, if you think a little there are TONS of things that could be improved, the animations for once are HORRID, go to third person view and try to run to your front and sideways at the same time, it's ridiculously bad done. The guns break too quick, most of the AI is dumb, archaic scripts to move caracthers amongst many others...
Many people buy games made by Bethesda because of the SDK, Oblivion was a great game but it had some flaws that even the devs couldn't fix (Budget, technical performance, pushy hardware all this can be enough reasons to not improve their game) but the fans took it as it was and improved it. I don't really find that offensive..
Sorry for the rant but I'm a modder myself and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be modding Fallout if I didn't friggin loved it ;D.

You probably want to seek out Canterbury Commons (on the east side of DC), both for the named quest set in the town (The Superhero Gambit, which is hilarious) and for all the caravans that pass through it. You can even start bankrolling caravans, which makes them a lot more effective (and lucretive) when you meet up with them.

I like Toast Some other people here also like Toast.
Now, what we have ON that toast is a personal preference.
Bethesda has given us some insanely yummy, warm buttery toast.
Modders are simply adding some Branston Pickle to it.
No offense to the people who gave us the Toast in the first place though. (The master gaming chefs at Bethesda)
In my opinion the way that Bethesda sets up an Editor for things (Morrowind, Obivion, and soon the GECK for Fallout 3) is in recognition/acceptance of this. Modders have no real time limit, no monetary issue with whether it'll cost too much to implement, and there are THOUSANDS of modders, compared to the smaller group of people Bethesda has.
No time limit + No money issues + An insanely larger group of people to bounce ideas around
= Greater customiseability, (Yes it's may/may not be a word, but it sounds so darn right) + The same great game, just more of what YOU want out of it. And more of what YOU want can't be a bad thing.
I can't wait for the GECK to come out because frankly, the Modding community for Fallout 3 has already done some awesome things WITHOUT that resource. And to paraphrase a song in a relatively cliché method..."Things can only get better."

I did a hell of a lot of exploring and rarely came back without a full inventory. I haven't played for a while but I definitely have over 40k.

Oh, like, yeah I completed the game a while back after I got to level 20. Now I've changed the level cap and kept on exploring. I don't wear power armor because when you get to a small gun skill of 100, armour really makes no difference as nothing ever reaches you. I just wear stuff that looks cool :P But I don't really play anymore what with Left 4 Dead and Red Alert 3.

I pretty much do that anyway... and is the cap 20, or can you keep going up through grinding?
needausername: I pretty much do that anyway... and is the cap 20, or can you keep going up through grinding?
The normal, unmodded cap is 20. But if you have the PC version I'm sure there's a mod that can raise it. And I imagine the DLC coming out will raise it as well.
I read somewhere that theres going to be DLC expansions coming out for 360 users but said nothing about PS3. Can any one confirm this and is so can they confirm about PS3 DLC if it will exist?

Yeah the cap is 20. You don't have to stop playing, but in this game the only real reward for anything is leveling so there wasn't anything to gain out of exploring, which is why I decided to up the cap and carry on with my exploring.
If you play it on PC, go to the console and type 'setgs iMaxCharacterLevel XX' replace the XX with the number you want. I go with 55 because that's what it is in Oblivion. Downside is you have to do it everytime you load the game.

Wow, you're the first person to say something like that. This isn't a mmorpg, leveling isn't the 'reward' it's exploring. Be honest have you found every location yet? Have you done every side quest after finishing the main quest? I'm pretty sure you haven't because you missed the point of Fallout 3 and the TES series, was Oblivion 'reward' the leveling system?
I couldn't care less about my level, heck I can blast trough the main quest on level 3. Now finding out the Alien Spaceship, the Dunwhich building, every vault, every little interesting place like the Oasis is what rewards in this game. The reward is to actually see those places for yourself, what's the reward of traveling to a country in real life? What's the reward of tourism? To see the Eiffel Tower, the Crystal Palace, the Statue of Liberty for yourself right?
Probably one of the most awesome moments in gaming was when I decided to explore the Capitol building only then to find out the Talon Company fighting the Super Mutants for it, then as I go inside there it is, a Super Mutant Behemoth fighting more Talon Company mercenaries as I try to hide in the middle of corpses flying and explosions, after that massive clash I struggle to get outside only to see 2-3 Enclave Vertibirds descending from the sky, now the Enclave joins the fight. I grab my Fat Man and start dumping nukes on everything that moves as Dogmeat barks against the Enclave soldiers, after several fiery explosions it all stops.
I stand victorious, and as I look around I only see corpses, death still prevails in this dystopian future.
