I would hope not. If they did a futuristic Call of Duty everyone would attack it with torches and pitchforks screaming that it's trying to be Halo, Gears of War and all that. Personally despite all that a Futuristic CoD would be better. But this isn't a topic on what franchise is better. Im my opinion CoD in the future would not work.
You fail. That is all. |

Cold War fighting is an "What if" |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 956 Joined: 25 Sep 2008 | I guess a non shooter would not really be in CoD's league, thus no medieval 1st person sword/axe/whatever wars. It would need a variety of guns to toy with, and perhaps something that hasn't really been done before. There are plenty of vietnam games, though I have yet to see one set in Korea (I'm sure there are, though). A fictional cold-war era game might work, like Operation Flashpoint. Maybe the "Wild West" era? They had a good variety of weapons with different styles. Even repeating rifles. Though I really wouldn't mind an elaborate Eastern Front game with a proper campaign.. not something that just skips from Stalingrad, to Kursk, to Kharkov and then to Berlin. I guess scenario progress is not something Call of Duty ever wanted.
I thought it was pretty funny :( |

Anonymous Source Posts: 6 Joined: 21 Oct 2008 | i dont think that any1 would bother making a korean war game otherwise it would have been done already that being said i wanna see a decent fictional fps like if the nazis won world war 2 and invaded america that would b cool, defend the whitehouse from hordes of nazis... aswesome |

Though I can't say I like *that* scenari.. But how about WW2 from the German point of view. Now if only developers could get over this "but nazis are bad, look at all the horrible things they've done! We can't let you play as *them*" ...... |

Copy Clerk Posts: 122 Joined: 9 Oct 2008 | Here's my idea: -A game backed by the American Historical Society (or whatever you yanks call it) -involves you taking on the role of an American family, where you play out all the best parts of all Americas major wars through the descendants of a single family. i.e. every level you rank up, based on how well your dad or grandpappy did back in the wars of the past. So as you play, you're still PVT. Jenkins technically, but you get to take a part in all of America's major wars. Wars you can play: -American Revolutionary War, be the guy who fired the shot heard round the world, be a loyalist or rugged rebel -It would be pretty damn cool if every war/battle (level) was connected to how you play later on, i.e do really well in the revolutionary war, and your descendant gets to command men in later wars as you build up XP! -Let the campaign be multiplayer, with other player joining the fray on either side, as mercenaries or sympathizers -Death is temporary as you get patched up on field, (if you're lucky) or else get warped to your later descendant or your brother in the next level/or as a "respawned soldier" -live through pain and sorrow as your family members die in the wars, (you die in WW1 3 times, you get to play as the last of 4 brothers.) -Have realistic and bloody weapons from all time periods! Imagine stabbing a yank bastard in the eye with your bayonet! Go crazy and machete a vietcong village looking for the hidden enemy! The choice is yours! -Decide between navy, air force or infantry fighting! -Make the game historical so people LEARN SOMETHING about american history! (that would be nice wouldn't it?) -Choices affect gameplay, i.e. choose to be a navy man onboard the Arizona and relive Pearl Harbour, totally helpless against the attack, or be the man who fought back. Play as an infantry soldier on D-Day, or be the air support, or evem drop the poor bastards off on the beaches. Seriously, this game could be fucking cool. |

And it would probably take longer to develop and polish than Duke Nukem Forever's current development timeline. But one can dream, right? :P |

Actually...a "choose your own adventure" and maybe a Bay of Pigs prologue, and show cuba, russia, and USA, and that could actually work out pretty well. Anyway, here's what I want: Anglo Zanzibar War WWI (Notice the lack of one "I") Korean War Vietnam war (INFINITY WARD ONLY TERRITORY HERE!) |

On the Record Posts: 5487 Joined: 7 Feb 2008 | With their dramatic First Person Immersion and some of their truly jarring scenes I would LOVE to see Infinity Ward address the folly that was Vietnam. It would be very interesting... oh and here is a reason why some wars will never be made into FPS's... Civil War: 3 or 4 Shots per minute, that is your BEST POSSIBLE FIRING RATE! However in the right context that could be exciting, just mix it up with revolvers or something. World War 1: Trench Warfare is boring for the most part, plain and simple, you wait, you charge and fail, repeat. Also there are no automatics, just bolt action rifles. You have maybe 3 different weapons. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 475 Joined: 11 Aug 2008 | Yay a CoD vietnam, with missions such as burn down that village, we dont know if there are any VC there and the villagers have been nothing but helpful but you never can be too careful With all new bonus objective including beat the old man to death and rape his family, bonus points for his underage daughter. The napalm mission, randomly drop napalm on every village you see, gotta kill VC that way. And the final mission run away and destroy anything you cant cary. Oh it would be wounderful. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1153 Joined: 24 Jan 2008 | i'd like to see Vietnam and maybe World War I. I can't imagine how well Call of Duty would do in World War I. Imagine you're at the Western Front and you're fighting the Germans, and then you get gassed! Your eyes water, and you're coughing up blood. Your slowly descending your death, and everything around you is growing colder, and the time is going slower. And then you collapse on the floor dead. CoD in WWI would do wonders for the series. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1474 Joined: 10 Sep 2008 | Grenada, since then they can justify the 8 hours of gameplay because the war itself only lasted a day. |

Not that any wars were good or anything, but I can see where you're coming from there. All the wars since then haven't been against countries' armies, just random organisations such as the Taliban or Vietcong. P.s. Falklands would actually be good. |

George Lucas, get out of here now. |
Paperboy Posts: 29 Joined: 7 May 2008 | The Third Crusade, obviously. Or alternatively, Vietnam or Gulf Wars seem obvious candidates. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 958 Joined: 9 Jul 2008 | I think the whole 'What If' and 'Choose your own adventure' style gameplay would be excellent. I remember Colony Wars: Vengeance had a system where the war progress depending on how well you did the missions was excellent and while I have never played it; Road to Berlin had a system where you took control of how WW2 progressed itself, so the war might have ended in 1946 with an allied victory, or in 47 with Germany capturing London. I heard the game was crap so it's a rather unexploited mechanic I believe. |

Now I love Call of Duty, number four especially. Initially I was skeptical they were moving on from World War 2 but it worked so well that fear was tampled, set alight and dumped in the ocean on a ball and chain. I will be buying Call of Duty 5 when it comes out. Mainly because I've not seen a good World War 2 shooter set in the pacific theater and I can't wait to storm Berlin as the Reds =P I don't see why it won;t work.
But I too am getting a bit bored of World War 2, yes it is a hobby of mine and credit to Activision for not going back to the Western Front and storming the beaches again. I would love to see for Call of Duty 6 and beyond for them to explore other wars and conflicts. Given the success of Call of Duty 4 they know they can do it.
So fellow Escapists, what wars and conflicts do you think we should see in Call of Duty games? I wouldn't mind trying out Veitnam and the Falklands as a personal preference. But over to you guys =).
NB: Did a search on this, turned up squat, there ya go. ;)
