Hey!

I'm creating a game for my Major Design Project in my final year at school, and one of the first requirements is for me to investigate my market. This community's part of my market, being game players and all.
Just hoping you guys'd be keen and interested in taking part - I'm going to post the results and analysis in around two weeks, it'll be interesting to see how things turn out. This survey is being posted across a few communities, so there'll hopefully be enough responses that the results will be pretty valid. All it requires is your input... it won't take long, I promise :)

So: Take the survey (no use now!)

Thanks in advance!

UPDATE 17/11/08
I've got the first set of results set up, feel free to see how it turned out. If you're interested, I'm happy to whip up a representation of some of the other data - such as the preferences of gamers who value violence, or the odd 6% or so who don't care about gameplay, etc. Just ask!

Done, although I would like to point out that I don't steal ALL of my games, just the single-player ones that I wouldn't intend on buying anyway.

It was hard to choose a "favorite game" and the explain why was tough.
Good overall survey, I'm anxious to see what turns out!

Ya I struggled with the fave. It is usually whatever game I am playing now.

Difficult to choose my favourite game but I made my decision and I believe it's the right one for me. :D Not a bad survey on the whole.

I chose World of Warcraft(Flame on bitches). The amount of hours I've sunk into it, all the enjoyment I got out of it, the friends I've made and the feelings of awesomeness when my guild would finally slaughter that last boss after so many attempts were incredible. I made a point of noting that it has flaws (which it does), but I still hold it up as my favourite game. No other game has come close to pulling me in so much and keeping me entertained.

Great survey, although I'd like to amend my answer to "piracy?" to "I buy all my games... except the ones that aren't being produced anymore and I can't find at the vintage game stores."

I felt really mean talking about how I really wanted a massive sandbox RPG. I felt as if I was demanding this guy make something that takes big companys years.

Taken.
I added a genre because I couldn't see where games such as Shadow of Colossus, Prince of Persia would fit.
Couldn't think of a fave though :/

There, there, i played WoW as well, and i damned enjoyed it.
Only got to t4-t5 content though, then i quit, had to focus on other things in live and WoW was consuming too much time.

Never regret playing it, met so many nice people and some of the epic moments i experienced in that game won't be forgotten so soon.

All done. Where's my cookie? :P

Actually a pretty good survey. Made me think about how much time I spend playing games these days - it's not as much as I thought.

I just went for COD4 as my favourite game, but then again it is my current favourite...

The single player is fantabbidoozle, but it's the multiplayer that swings it for me. It's just so... rewarding. It's very fun, and lasts forever and ever.

For me, I cheated a little. I'll say that I put a series for the favorite gamnes. Seriously, don't make me chose which is my favorite. Oh, and you can guess (my user name is Mstrswrd, or Master Sword. Take a guess what my favorite series is.)

Took the survey.

Best of luck with a software development cycle, school courses, some semblance of a social life, and otherwise meeting the essentials of life itself.

Hey guys, got an update - the survey's had a total of 531 responses, in less than a day! The escapist has made 136 of those entries, second biggest response behind Facepunch Studios. Thanks a heap for all your input and encouragement. Haha, wanna release some of the results but afraid of effecting people's responses :)

Haha yeah, having completed a smaller game project a few weeks ago, I'm pretty damn scared of how much time it's going to suck up. Farewell once more, social life...

Nah, don't worry about it - write whatever you want. Otherwise it'd be biased :)

EDIT: If anybody wants to help out, got any other places I could submit the survey?

I picked Counter-Strike as my favorite game, mostly because its such an easy game to just jump into whenever you want to. Also, I think its just cuz its a "current" favorite for me.

Just a question, what's the purpose of this survey? Is it just a investigation of the market in the broadest sense as you say, or is it also a jumping point for your design? ^^;
