Scariest games? hmmm thats a tough one...

Do you want Startle you scary? then go for either Resident Evil or Dead Space
Do you want "Holy shit that is genuinely terrifying!" scary? Fatal Frame

03. Silent Hill II (Ps2/Xbox/PC)
04. Fatal Frame (Ps2/Xbox (360 Compatible)
05. Silent Hill (PS1 Exclusive)
06. Silent Hill III (PS2/PC)
07. Resident Evil IV (Gamecube/Ps2/Pc/Wii)
08. Resident Evil II (PS1/PC/Dreamcast/Gamecube)
09. X-Files: Resist or Serve (PS2 exclusive)
10. Cold Fear (Xbox/Ps2)

Okay how about this, We ban SH2 seeing as how it will automatically be on the top of lists.

I never got a chance to get very far in it, but Condemned was the scariest game I have played to date (Never got to play any SH games, a problem which I plan to rectify very soon)...it was the only first person game in which I genuinely did not want to find any enemies for fear of them doing horrible, horrible things to me with a 2x4, complete with embedded bolts.

I don't care what Yahtzee says; Resident Evil 4 scares me. Yes, you have lots of ammo but it's not enough...not enough...why won't you just die, mister mean chainsaw man?

Condemned hands down. The Appleseed Farmhouse level was pure genius.

It's a shame I can't finish it seeing that my 360 refuses to render half the final level. It fills me with rage. Enough rage to make me understand why the bums went kill crazy.

Actually, when I played it at night with the lights off and headphones on, there were some sequences in Doom 3 that managed to scare the shit out of me.

Our version did that too - do you just get to a road past a gate where everything is black? Worked fine after a reboot, but if that fails try and backtrack to get to the little cabin high up to the right of the road, you have to do something in there before you can continue and I think that's where the glitch is.

Fatal Frame 2. Scariest game ever.

Well, it wasn't so much about the game as where I was playing (the attic of an almost mansion-like house with paint peeling off the walls and pipework showing not to mention the fact that it wasn't my house so it was unfamiliar and the windows were huge and it was the middle of winter and the trees were all bare and the lights were off and it was cold *gasps for air*).

BUUUUT it was Resident Evil for the gamecube.

I would like to note that I don't often play horror games for some reason so I don't have a large library to choose from > >;

It's happening right at the cabin higher above the right side of the road. I've tried backtracking, reloading, restarting the level, and I've even tried deleting my HDD's cache. nothing seems to be working.

No new ones to add, Condemned was really intense and Resident Evil made me jump a few times. I'm embarrassed to admit this but I was too scared to finish Silent Hill, That game freaked me out. So thats my scariest, because I wimped out of playing it.

Heh. You made remember game I really didn't want to remember.
Call of Cthulhu:Dark Corners of The Earth
Running around dreading the peasents that can kill you with a few fists while running around unarmed half the game are not scary, the degree of mind fuckery did it for me...

I only played condemned criminal origins a week ago and it definately had some scary moments. The story was a complete mess however. I have yet to play a game that is truly scary. Most of the time games rely too heavely on spookhouse-like tactics instead of delivering an unsettling story.

Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.

Man. Lovecraft's style of writing always weirded me out in a way pop-up monsters and empty gore never could.
In game form?
Well actually it's less frightening in game form. But still, pretty scary in the beginning.

Yup, having never played any of the SH series, this is it for me. Got me many a time. Great suspense and use of the environment.

Doom 3 because of its awesome 5.1 home theater usage.
Silent Hill 2 because of its suspense.

I agree, Condemned was terrifying. I also found Aliens vs Predator 2 to be pant-wetting as well.

The marine sections in AVP2 were genuinely disturbing, flickering lights and random falling pipes had me wasting precious ammo on walls and ceilings, not to mention seeing predators everywhere only to have them disappear along with the bloodied remains of one of my comrades. Then you have the sections with aliens coming out of everything but the kitchen sink and you runnign backwards frantically hoping that the rounds in the pulse rifle are going to last so you dont have to switch to the pistol.

A lot of condemned 1 here but what about condemned 2?
It's not as good later in the game, but the early levels are fantastic. creeping around in that hotel with junkies all around. I found a pistol and felt safe, begun to check rooms, went into a bathroom nothing there, turn around, BAD ASS JUNKIE right in my face. I droped the controler it was that good.

Note: Haven't played condemned 1 yet, har it's better.

Undying really had creepy moments.

And the number 1 goes to : Blood 2 - when the liches jump on your face for the first time...
