Although I know what you're saying, a first person or maybe third person shooter game narrating the battles of a mecha on immense battlefields sounds awesome. Also Liberty Prime was the highlight of Fallout 3! "DIE COMMIE SCUM!" User was banned for: FUN FORUM GAME THX FO PLAYIN :3. (Permanent) |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1168 Joined: 2 Sep 2008 | @Richard: Yeah it does, but it seems developers insist on neglecting the giant robot genre. I had a look at Supreme Commander and it didn't really interest me. |

Liberty Prime is the best giant robot I've seen in ages, he could single handedly beat communism. |

indeed, bring back the mechwarrior series! I would love a new mechwarrior, but this time around why just mechs? Bring in the entire battletech universe. tanks, helicopters, battle armors, mobile batteries, aerotechs, dropships, and jumpships, the whole nine yards! There is an entire smorgasboard of material to use for a story, I mean there are at least 20 novels written about it's story line. Go nuts with it! Of course with mechwarrior the story was at least for me a backdrop for the favorite pastime of many, blowing the crap out of things with completely rediculous arsenals! |

Actually I've never played the damn thing, my computer at the time ran like it was being held by the balls by Mike Tyson if I tried to play anything other than supaplex or GTA 1. But I had a ... classmate that was obsessed by the series. He only talked about it and I wanted to shoot him. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 84 Joined: 17 Apr 2008 | I recommend MechWarrior 4. It was a fairly decent first person(or third person if you prefer) shooter with a wide variety of customizable mechs as well as weapons. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 661 Joined: 9 Jun 2008 | If you have a 360, I would take a good look at Lost Planet. It is like a year old or so, so you could probably get it cheaper. It is not 100% robot fighting, more like 30-40%, but what was there was good. I personally thought this game was a little bit of an underappreciated gem, IMHO. |
On the Record Posts: 6738 Joined: 22 Aug 2008 | ZoE, Armoured Core and Mechwarrior are my favourite mecha game series (in that order, no less). I wait for the day when Bandai will finally cobble together a good Gundam game. Using either the AC or ZoE rough gameplay system with a bit of a tweak for the Gundams would be more than enough, but thus far I've yet to see anything that really captured the pace of Gundam combat minus the theatrics. ZoE2 I played and loved, then my younger brother lost my disk while I was away on holiday and it's fucking impossible to find anywhere. It's on ebay for something like £40.00 a pop, which is a tad too rich for my unemployed blood. I picked up a used copy of ZoE1 from CeX for £2.50 a week ago though ;D
Kojima has said he wants to do a ZoE3. I just wish he'd get round to it. :( |
Press Junketeer Posts: 432 Joined: 14 Nov 2008 | Long time AC follower here, I was on it when I received the demo with my Playstation. I was kinda disappointed to see the AC series turn into "LOL GUNDAMS" but it's still fun, but they had to change something about it. (I so wanted to pilot a MT.) Robotech Battle Cry was fun, it showed it's true colors on hard mode. Chromehounds is only good (In my opinion) if you've got LIVE. Twenty bucks for a "tutorial". I enjoyed it though. Gundam Crossfire (Title may include "Mobile Suit Gundam" I never get it right.) is a good one if you want challenging game play. Any other Gundam title is good too...usually. Lost Planet also features battle mechs, nothing really ground breaking though. |

I wish he would too....It amazes me that ZOE 2 still holds up so well graphically even after all this time. My only real wishes for ZOE 3 are that we get a cooler looking mech than Jehuty, I was always kind of steamed that Anubis looked so much more awesome than Jehuty. I would also hope that the game can at least make it to ten hours straight through, though this isn't that big of a deal since Kojima has shown he can pack mountains of awesome into six hours. |
On the Record Posts: 5966 Joined: 7 Feb 2008 | ZoE2 follows a formula I'd love to see more game devs follow. Every mission has a different feel too it, and the level gimmicks are never repeated, hence an annoying one is tolerable because you never encounter it again. |
Paperboy Posts: 16 Joined: 30 Oct 2008 | The Super Robot Wars series is awesome. I'm not talking about the SRTaisen OG for GBA(although it is from the same series and a good game in it's own right) I'm talking about the ones from Japan. The only ones in English are the two GBA games I just mentioned and fan-translated SRW 3 for the SNES. Its a good game, but not as user friendly as the later games. The series follows the same idea as Super Smash Brothers and Kingdom Hearts but precedes them by at least 10 years and instead of Mario you get gundam. The early games don't have a whole bunch in plot except to give you a reason to beat up the main bad guy, but it gets better as the series has gone on. The series in the games are small in the early games consisting of the main Gundams(0079 to F91) and Super Robots mainly from Mazinger and Getter robo. The list expands to include others such as Aura battler Dunbine, Heavy Metal L-Gaim, Gundam Wing, and even G Gundam in a few of the games. The games are SRPGs. The main units are essentially divided into Super Robots(High armor, low mobility) such as Mazingers, Getters, Gunbuster, and Evangelion and real robots(High mobility, lower armor) which I pretty much listed. I wont list all the series since theres a huge number. The games start off easily enough with you being able to kill all the units no problem. Eventually though, depending on the actions you take and how you upgrade your units, the games can vary in difficulty from challenging to murderous. Not only will bosses have ten times the health of any of your units, some can regenerate a good portion of their health and if the game hates you, can absorb attacks and heal themselves. Here are a few videos. First is of Alpha Gaiden, a game not too difficult(okay it can get difficult) but its not too hard that you can't beat it. |

Beating the airship level was awesome. I saved at the start of it and replayed it like...5 times in a row once >_> I loved that so much. The following "protect the weak ass LEVs from slightly tougher Raptors" level was a bit tedious though. Bloody useless Vic Viper. ;/
I thought they both looked pretty on par with awesomeness actually. I quite liked the transition to Naked Jehuty, which I thought looked superior to your basic Jehuty. Preferred the design of Neith to Nephtis though. It's likely that if he does make a ZoE3 we'll either see or play as Jehuty. I doubt they'd cut it entirely from the series. If not Jehuty then we'll have ADA get transferred to a new OF which we use, which would be pretty sweet. But yeah, Anubis>Jehuty. |

Never played the ZoE's however i love mechs and Hideo, especially after the awesome but short mech fight in MGS4 - The only mech game ive played where you genuinly feel like you're controlling a multi-billion-dollar robot of death and rampant smashing. Anyway, point being that if it does go into production it'd be great, hopefully because the the extreme outdated-ness of the old ZoE's it would mean a complete overhaul, putting it into line as the start of the 2nd generation of games for the current platforms. |

No NA Release because of issues with harmonix and robotech (wtf!) And Mechwarrior which is long dead, I still have Mercenaries installed, which is still my favorite Mechwarrior game so far. |

I think giant robots are great, I love mechs and the epic battles that take place between them.
Which is why I'm very disappointed with video games atm; if I want to play a game with mechas I'm limited to either Gundam Dynasty Warriors or Armored Core 4 or For Answer...
I know we don't get a lot of the mecha games from Japan, but is there a game I'm missing?
because unless I go and play retro games, I won't be able to find a half-decent mech game.
There's something srsly wrong with that, and as someone who grew up with Power Rangers and Transformers I think we need some awesome giant robot games now!
