I am hoping that it is good. The last good, or okay Sonic game was Sonic heros I liked that game. I have to admit though WereSonic looks pretty interesting. The game play looks pretty fast though, the videos are just like Sonic running around and getting rings.
I can't ever tell what the hell is going on in the videos I've seen, it seems fast to the point of stupidity. Am I the only one that feels this way?
I like Sonic, but I can't help but feel that this is gonna pulverize the last of that little blue hedgehogs dignity into something not even a rat would eat.
As much as I like the blue hedgehog, I honestly think that this is his curtain call...
I reckon the daytime aspects will be great, good old classic sonic mixed with the best elements of the S:AB 2, however I cant help but feel that the nigh time aspects will ruin it, that and the almost guaranteed ridiculous story.
It would take Neo, the T-100, the guy from Shoot Em Up, Jason, and Ash to save the franchise from its current day awfulness. In fact, they might not even be enough. Even if this game is good, I doubt it could do much now Edit: This thread could use a poll
Eh, Just assume that the new sonic game is terrible and be done with it. Sonic did not really translate into 3D well. The last Sonic game I liked was Sonic & Knuckles.
Sonic is like a Nascar race. Fast, repetitive, and likely to make a lot of money with people gullible enough to pay. At this point, I am waiting for him to hit the wall and catch fire.
I don't see much hope for it; sure the speed sections look great but you have to remember this game will have half speed gameplay and half retarded combat gameplay.
Werehog. Because Link did it?
It seems that not content with making huge amounts of games with its own franchises, Nintendo is doing it with Sega's as well. That said, the new Sonic is a positive step towards innovation, and the WereSonic could add some really interesting gameplay - think like Supersonic back on the megadrive, only without the hours of Chaos Emerald collecting frustration. Unfortunately, when using games as famous as Sonic with such a huge fanbase, it is very hard for devs to please an audience. Seeing as most video game critics grew up with Sonic and have it as a fond memory, I imagine any changes to their rose-tinted retrospect will earn Sonic Unleashed some pretty scathing reviews. Think back to Deus Ex : Invisible War. If it were simply called Invisible War I can imagine the fanbase and critics being much more charitable towards it. As a sequel the gameplay was to dissimilar from the original for the fans' liking, and not different enough for the critics' liking.
To be honest, it looked good until I learned of the 'Sonic the Werehog' element of the game. I'd love nothing more than to see Sonic going out with a collosal bang, but, to me it does not bode well.
Meh... Sonic (as a franchise) died after Sonic & Knuckles...
I dunno if it will help, but goodness knows I won't buy it.
WAit wait wait, isn't that what we want to happen? I really hope they don't screw up the whole weresonic crap. In every single Sonic game, SEGA has always got the speed part right somewhat but they ALWAYS try to put something new. They try to fix what isn't broekn! In Shadow the Hedgehog it was gunplay and combat And now they're introducing the whole stupid pointless WereSonic crap, WITH COMBAT. Sonic is not meant to be a brawler, he's meant to be fast and flurious! I was so excited for Sonic Unleashed, it was going at break neck speeds that went past the speed of sound 4 times! Then they introduced to stupid WereSonic, and I'm worried they're going to screw it up!!
The game looks not too bad but the Werehog thing is not a good choice. Sonic needs to be fast! But maybe it's going to be a good 3D Sonic game and maybe I will buy it.
Ever since Sonic went 3D it's been several samey games one after another. Adventures... Adventures 2... Heroes... All with nothing to distinguish them. Except the ciao ciaos on Adventures 2. GOD I loved them things <3 But yeah, I don't think Sonic will ever stop being in mediocre adventure games, and the new one I predict will be no better.
The levels with "normal" Sonic, actually look kind of fun (going back to the speed element), but the "Werehog" levels, no, just no. They probably could have saved it, if they didn't have the werehog levels.
We have been trying to kill him for years! na only joking, sonic and mario seem to appear more on the nintendo side of things so i dont think it will save him beacause he doesn't really need saving
Sonic should have died at the top of it's game, it's too late for that. Now he NEEDS to die while I still have an ounce of respect for these games. I have fond memories of sonic (The original was the first game I ever played) but they really need to stop making these silly games.
I'm not optimistic about it, in any case I'm hoping they'll kill the bastard after it (OR let Nintendo see if they can beat some life into him), he's been on life support for years now . Sonic died with the Genesis IMO, all that's left is his lame, big-headed clone...
Well, it's coming this week. Place your bets!
I know this game is gonna be ace, but since a shit load of fans never are satisfied about any game that comes out, some fans piss me off becuase the never appreciate anything. Personally i am actually glad that they are merging 2d and 3d together, because i've heard some friends say that they want a sonic game where it's a 2D/3D game where sonic actually runs fast and does what sonic originally was created for to have a fast paced platformer that sonic runs so fast that some times the screen can't keep up. Sonic unleashed isn't exatly that but it's the closest thing to what these were asking for, yet these same guys are complaining about the werehog thing and it pisses me off because Sonic Unleashed is the closest thing to a sonic game that they want but becuase of one little thing they're now complaining about it i wish that they would be grateful. i know one thing though, this game is gonna be better than Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, if the werehog thing is a shit bomb then that doesn't mean the game will be shit.
I'm not too sure, personally I'd like to see the original games remade with better graphics and more features. I didn't mind Sonic Adventure though.
That'd be kinda cool. Sorta like BC: Rearmed.
At the very least, re-releasing some of the old ones, say, across the Xbox Live Arcade (and whatever its PS3 analogue is) would help wash the taste of failure out of our collective mouth and let us have a 'good' sonic game.
This game may not be any good, but BioWare just got the rights to Sonic and are coming out with a game on the DS that looks like it could be an end to Sonic's mistreatment.
Sonic died a long, long time ago my good friend.
To quote Yahtzee | |
Because Sonic is now doing EVERYTHING that huge Nintendo franchises have done, interestingly enough, Mario in particular. Think about it: sports game (Sega superstar tennis)? Mario did it. Racing game (Super Sonic racing)? Mario did it. Werewolf idea? Link did it. RPG game? Mario did it and pulled it off nicely. I've heard about and seen screenshots of a game coming up with sonic getting, and I'm serious here, a talking sword that gives him advice. Do I even need to tell you that Link did that from day one? Sega needs to realize that Sonic needs to die. He had his run in 2-D.
That is the RPG I spoke about. And according to critics who matter, "The result was a resounding meh."
I hope it saves it. The sonic series is one of my favorite series.
The design of sonic games so far has remained somewhat consistent, although after SA 1 they almost removed the need for it to be 3d. The games are pretty much a racing game against nothing. There's no clock, and there's no one to race against, although I suppose the "get to the end" is the basic recipe for a platformer, then again there's not much else they do well in that respect. What I mean is in other 3d platformers you usually have more freedom in where you can go, but in most sonic games it seems 100% linear. Also, the controls in heroes were confusing and I haven't played next gen, but I've heard bad things about it. I suppose the werehog thing could make it fun, but it's certainly not going to have that "follow the line and jump or fall every once in awhile" aspect that other sonics have, so most hardcore fans probably won't enjoy it, not to mention the fact that the story will probably be rediculous. I think that if SEGA really wants to "save" sonic, they should sit down and re-invent how the games work in 3d, so in conclusion, this probably won't "save" the series.
I like to think it's going to be good, but I have a feeling I'm going to be very disappointed.

I've been looking at a few videos for the game and I'm optimistic. The last Sonic game on a console that I loved was SA2: B, and this seems to take the 3D elements of that and the classic 2D elements of the old games to make something good. However, I'm not so sure about the whole werehog thing. What do you think?
