Fallout 3. I'm trudging through it to see if it gets better but so far my unreasonable expectations beg to differ.

Though Black & White 2 has been mentioned, I'm going to toss Black & White 1 into the ring. The first hour was amazing. Meeting your creature, moving him around. Awesome. And then, the game itself starts. Talk about a nosedive. All of the glowing reviews must have come from people who only played that first bit.

I think Doom 3 was a big let down. I loved Doom 1 and Doom 2 was pretty good. All the press I read about Doom 3 kept saying it would be better than Doom 1 with awesome graphics to boot. When I played it, I was less than impressed. I still like Doom 1 better than Doom 3, even with its old-school sprites instead of the fancy 3-D monsters.

I disagree completely, but it appears that I'm in the minority. Especially since Brawl has, so far, lived up to the hype for me.

Letdowns for me? Hmm... Probably Twilight Princess. Not to say it's not an awesome game, but it could have been more. Pathetically easy, too.

Brawl is easily the worst out of all the games on this thread, not one of them comes even close. I wouldn't call it a let me down, it is more of a demonic entity. They fucked everything in it, they even added new things in it and still fucked it up. I find it incredible how they could not see the adventure mode as a terrible idea, it's probably why we were waiting for 2 years for it to be released!

I will never be the same because of this game!

I love the implication here, that if a game doesn't please ME ME ME it's a fuck up. It's one I find all too often.

Don't use my posts as a flimsy excuse to flame one of my favourite games. You don't like the changes they made, good for you, go back to Melee.

spore all hands down. ive reached the age now where i dont actualy get alot of 'thrill' out of many new games. ive played so long and so many that most of them are just rehashing of older games ive allready played but spore looked like it was gunna break the mold and start something new. i followed the game for years and seriously looked forward to it since ive enjoyed almost every game maxis ever made.

then its finaly out, i hit amazon to buy it and see the reviews of 1 star. what the hell i think and start reading the reviews, didnt take long to see that it had securom having had past experiance with it i wasted no time NOT ordering the game.

it really ticked me off too. its hard enough finding good/fun games now days, now it seems that when i finaly CAN find a game that catches my eye its ruined before i can even try it by shit like the DRM.

as for games ive played that were a let down, id say MOO 3. ive played worse crap over the years. i can certianly list alot of games that were over-hyped the thing that made MOO 3 the worst for me is that you could see what a great game it COULD have been. things ALMOST work right, the ideas and concepts are there to see but how it was actualy built ...... sad , just sad.

its like finaly landing adate with a really Hot chick only to find out at show time shes just a badly made japanese robot.

Excuse me asshole but you did make a thread that has the title "The biggest let-down you've ever had about a new title". I answered saying everything is terrible and it clearly was, I find it sad that you say that is one of your favourite games because you obviously don't like good gameplay!

The biggest let down? Half Life 2 and it's sequels. Everyone I seem to know was telling me how it was the greatest fucking game ever and I played it and it was meh. It wasn't awful, it was just meh. I was expecting it to be amazing as my friends said it was and I played it and was like, oh. It's okay.

Really? I thought I was the only one. Honestly, I haven't met a single person who agrees with me when I say HL2 was overrated.

Other than that, DoW: Soulstorm and Spore were massive dissapointments.

Calling me an asshole because I disagree with you. Good start.
Mistaking me for the thread maker. Great job.
Calling Brawl "clearly terrible" without even saying what's wrong with it beyond a vague reference to the adventure mode being a terrible idea. Wonderful.
Belittling my opinion because yours is obviously so much more valid. If you don't like a game anybody who does like it is stupid, an asshole and worthy of pity and contempt. Because the world revolves around you.

News flash. Your opinion is not objective fact. Pretending otherwise makes you look like a narrow-minded, ignorant bigot.

Here's a couple that haven't been mentioned yet;

Viking. I saw screens of that in a GameInformer and thought, "brilliant!" It looked amazing, the idea sounded fun, and then I played it. Yuck. I did enjoy it a little more when I added in my own sound track that was all viking metal from The Sword.

Also, Mass Effect. I thought this game was going to be an amazing open world (Oblivion style, no loading screens) with tons of places to explore. Instead I get a few uninhabited worlds where I have to drive my clunky vehicle across miles of barren wastelands in search for..... nothing. Not saying I hated the game, I actually quite enjoyed it (great ending) but the whole time I played I felt quite distant from it. There was never a huge breakthrough moment for me in either story or gameplay.

Alone in the Dark...I had a really naive hope with it, and it certainly has it's moments (The TV-Serial Style and Pacing is something i really like to see in other games).

But the Controls, the need to burn your enemies (sounds good in theory, is horrible in execution) and the unneeded open endedness that does not really add anything to the game makes this one a great disappointment.

Well, at least it has the best dialogue in any game ever:
"Give me the stone!"
"I don't have your stone, and fuck you anyway!"

No I called you an asshole because I thought you made the thread, but hey that was my mistake. Also I didn't need to post everything wrong with it because I know it is not going to change your opinion. I sum it as gameplay because randomly tripping over is sooo much fun! Theres a million other things but I can't be stuffed wasting it on you.

Lets see here. The largest dissapointment in my gaming lifetime would have to be Half Life 2. I was told it was an amazingly awsome game by just about everyone and their dog, but when i played it i couldnt help but think ehh. It wasnt bad, but it wasnt good either. I had barely any fun with it, and it was way too easy. Another let down of mie was Ninja Gaiden 2. It hurt me when i played this game, hurt me so very much. i was looking forward to it because the first x-box version is my favorite game in history, but the second was not all that good to me. First off, it was too easy. They turned the difficulty down a notch because people found the first too hard. I rather like it when a game is difficult, it adds to the fun, and enjoy a challenge, but they gave that a royal screwing right from the start. Secondly, most of the weapons were complete crap, i was dissapointed by a lot of the moves and combos, which brings me to my next point, the fact that it was repetative. i didnt like the nature of how it gave the same enemies over and over with little to no variation.

Anywho, another letdown of mine would have to be GTA4. It wasnt horrible, i just think they could have done a better job of it. Although i do like the fact that they took out the respect and muscles and hunger crap from San Andreas.

There are a few things i disagree with in this topic, like the guys who said Fallout 3 was a dissapointment. I enjoyed the game, it was fun and an overall good game to me. I also disagree with the guys that said Gears 2. I enjoyed it, new enemies and weapons, and of coarse there is always Cole, who, if he was in any game, it should instantly get 2 gold stars.

Oh, last minute thought, another dissapointment, Guitar Hero. Any of them, I dont care, i dont like them. The guitar controller has those buttons that just really hurt, which compared to the Rock Band controllers, which are actually really comfortable, just really suck.

Well, thats my post, and sorry for making it so long, this is my first one and i wanted to make it good.

So you have an opinion. Why do you feel the need to bash mine? Is it because I'm oh so wrong? So please enlighten me and explain why I'm oh so wrong.
I wouldn't consider it a waste for you to explain what you dislike about Brawl. It won't change my opinion on it, but it'd make you look like less of an idiot. If you go out of your way to insult someone for having a different opinion and then refuse to elaborate on why their opinion is so wrong, well, that's a much bigger waste of both our times, don't you think?

So why did you feel the need to flame me if you don't care about what I think? Especially considering that I didn't call you a narrow-minded, ignorant bigot, merely that the way you're acting makes you look like one. Try not to use the word asshole so much too, it's unimaginative and adds nothing to the discussion. Especially since I'm not the one flaming others for daring to disagree.

Now I'm curious. How exactly are people like me responsible for games getting worse?

Black & White 2. I loved the first game, but 2 was a real let down. It was in the book of world records for best AI in a game for the creature, and I so prefered the creature from the 1st game, and the game in general. Lionhead seem to have a habit of putting out unfinished games *stares at his Fable 2 case with a sigh*

I have to agree with you on B&W2. Sure, the game mechanics had been refined, but it just failed to capture the charm of the original. Gaining people's worship now involves checking off lists on buildings designed to impress them, or just conquering the shit out of everything, self defence is an act of evil, and the creature reward system now just seems like tailoring the personality of your creature, rather than seeing how he behaves. Hell, I hardly noticed my new creature until it was time to fight.

Dead Space... It bored the HELL out of me, and I couldn't put my finger on why. I thought it was because it's a Silent Hero game... But honestly... After watching Yahtzee's review, I agree with him completely. It's bland.

It was a good game, i was just disappointed with the difference between what was said was going to be in it, and what actually was in it.

Sorta like Fable. It's an entertaining game, but doesn't really come close to what molyneux said about it.

You were.

My answer really depends on how you want to do this. Sometimes I'm expecting decency and I get shit and sometimes I'm expecting greatness and I get mediocrity, both provide a similar ammount of disapointment.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within still stands out a sore spot for me. It's not terrible, but as a sequel to one of my favourite games it really dropped the ball in terms of story and asthetics.

Assasins' creed had lots of promise and was disapointed me greatly.

Army of Two. I was one of the few people who loved the concept and the design, found the masks awesome and the whole 'blinged out merc' thing quite refreshing. It's a shame the underlying game was so... well... shitty.

Deus Ex 2, obviously.

MGS4 just... didn't do it for me. After the fucking masterpiece that was MGS3 (seriously one of the best in the ps2 games ever made and the only game in the series even close to MGS in terms of quality) I was expecting genius. What I got was stupidity.

etc etc

Age of Empires III. Age of Empires is famously my favorite RTS franchise, but I no longer look at AoE II as part of that franchise. The part of my mind reserved for an AoE2 sequel is filled with Age of Mythology.

AoE III was almightily crap; no more historical accuracy. Crowded, tiny maps. Stupid new gameplay features like railroads and capture-able trade routes. Tribe interaction, hero units, game length. Stupid stupid stupid storyline. It was just honestly one of the worst games/let downs i've ever encountered.

Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy. Not a bad game in itself, but almost no development from Jedi Knight II, and they took out the huge open PVP maps like the streets of corusant, or the jedi temple.

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. it was getting perfect scores everywhere, was really hyped up but when i got it, it wasn't that good. it was a good game but didn't deserve the 10/10 it was constantly getting. it was too easy, the sailing was auto-cannibalisticly monotonous and the cell shaded graphics weren't that great. way before it came out pictures were released of the next Zelda game and it looked amazing but the some pillock thought it would be a good idea to cell shade it. in short, no, in long, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Fallout 3.

Everything about it disappointed me, the enivorments although they looked fantastic were horribly cluttered. Npcs were lifeless, stat based clothing is ridiculous and lame in a fallout game. Storyline was absolutely horrible. Vats was clunky and the slo motion effect got incredibly annoying and old. The art design for the most part on characters was real bad. Facial animations were sub par, and the dialogue, which is a huge part of fallout, was incredibly bland and stale. Exploration was fun, 50s music was great although very limited size in terms of actual amount of songs used.

Wow you are just terrible at life. Age of empires 3 was and still is a fantastic game. It missed the whole custom map scene that kept age2 alive for like 7 years but still age3 was very well put together.

I understand not likeing a game but saying age3 was the BIGGEST let down? Jesus L2P a bit man. There are maps without the rail road/trade interaction and you seriously played an age of empires game for the single player campaign? What? Seriously what? Thats Mirrors Edge for it's engaging Gun battles or Gears of Wars 2 for it's riveting story.

Mirror's Edge. Don't get me wrong, at this moment I'm playing it and loving it, but I think they put too much emphasis on combat. Besides that, I haven't really been that disappointed. Oh, wait, I forgot Halo 3.

You can get a achievement for not using combat at all you know? So it's possible. I'm getting it tomorrow and I'm going to try to evade every 'blue'.

Not quite - the achievement is for not shooting anyone. You can still knock them out in hand-to-hand if you need to. Easy extra 80 points for the first play through - do it on Easy mode, then when you go back through and play Hard you can shoot as much as you like. :)
