What games do you find overrated?

Here are the games I find overrated.

Halo 2 & 3:
Now A LOT of gamers say that the whole Halo series is overrated and overhyped, I personally disagree with that. I loved the original Halo for it's near perfect weapon balance, thrilling combat, dynamic A.I., entertaining sci-fi storyline, incredible vehicles, excellent enemies, competitive multi-player, fun co-op, and it's immersive epic sense of adventure that made you feel that you were on this mysterious ringed shaped planet. The sequels sabotage almost everything that made the original great because the weapons were poorly balanced, the storylines were terrible, the new enemies were unispired, the combat wasn't as fun, the vehicle physics were way too arcadey, and didn't offered the same epic feeling that made the original engaging. The enemy A.I. was still good but your friendly A.I. are idiots compared to how intelligent they were in the original, the online multi-player was alot of fun to play but wasn't very competitive due to how unbalanced the weapons, I mean the plasma sword has a longer range than the shotgun for crying out loud. The co-op were the only thing that made me play through the dull campaigns of Halo 2 & 3. It's a shame how a series starts off great but ends up with unworthy sequels.

BioShock:
Yahtzee was spot-on about this game. It's not bad but a rehashed and dumbed down System Shock 2. The early gameplay footage showed a much more innovative and different game that what was released. I believe the game was rushed to compete with Halo 3.

The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess:
It's a solid Zelda title but it was just a rehash of Ocarina of Time with a werewolf twist that didn't add much to the typical Zelda formula. The game was much easier and linear than the previous titles. I remember when Jeff Gerstmann scored the game a 8.8 back then when he used to be a GameSpot Editor for the same reasons I stated and recieved a ton of hate mails from angry Nintendo fanboys, kinda like how Yahtzee did for his Super Smash Bros. Brawl review. I'm probably going to get a lot of hate mails from Nintendo fanboys too for calling it overrated.

Halo pretty much sums it up, but I will also add Gears 1 and 2, not saying they're bad, just overrated.

I'm still mad about GTA IV not being the messiah in the form of a video game like the reviews promised.

Final Fantasy VII, I mean I tried but I could not enjoy it and I felt it is somehow hyped to be the greatest RPG ever but I really feel it falls flat.

Their all overrated except Portal, which I had the honor to finally play when it was published on the XBLA. Though the MOST overrated of the "AAA" titles are the Halo series and GoW series. Not that I hate the overhyped games, I just don't think they are the godsents that people say they are.

Mass Effect. I enjoyed the game at first, but after finishing it I was a bit disappointed. The Codex provides so much information about this big and exciting SciFi world but the game itself presented so very little of it. There was not a lot of variety and I got tired of fighting the same mercenary groups and the Geth all the time. Why couldn't I visit the world of the psychic jellyfish or take on some Volus?

Halo, Assassin's Creed, Guitar Hero. Not that I don't enjoy them, I just don't think they deserved such a huge amount of praise.

With the Halo series, for me it was only Halo 3 that was a let down, Halo 1 I enjoyed immensely and Halo 2's story immersed me quite well, though I was incredibly frustrated when it just cut off and effectively said "fuck you, wait for Halo 3".

Halo 2 also revolutionised it for me by bringing online play into the equation, on the old Xbox I had many hours of fun playing online with friends and complete asshats from all over the globe :)

Apart from Halo, I can't really comment, I missed out on roughly 4 years of game releases because I, Fragamoo, am a WoW addict. I mean was! Definitely was... damn you WotLK, with your shiny lewts trying to entice me back in :<

Half Life's puzzles are getting a bit repetitive but they're still better than any other FPS I've ever played.
Left 4 Dead is amazing, real life needs more zombies!
Lastly...Portal, need I say more?

I urge you dear friend, repent now! For the end of days is coming. The end of the Half Life2 chapter and you will forever be known as a non believer and not allowed to bath in the glory of Valve.

I'm sorry, I love talking like a religous fanatic. It makes me smile.

I find Gears of War to be ovverrated, really rather dull and samey as all other shooters out there.

BioShock is a great game presentation-wise but the gameplay is so ridiculously simple and unchallenging that it really missed its mark for me. It's excellent when it comes to story and realising its world, but for all the much-touted gameplay depth, there really isn't very much at all. What's sad is that this could have been fixed with some proper re-balancing.

Halo, especially its sequels, has always struck me as being a franchise that gets celebrated for being very good at being mediocre. There aren't too many new ideas anywhere, and while the game's influence has been profound, there are many shooters that did the same thing previously, arguably much better. I find it incredibly slow and boring, too, to the point where I can dominate other players with ease simply because I have a much better aim and reaction time than everyone else (despite being pretty crummy next to any "real" shooter fan). The story and universe are admittedly intriguing, but that's not enough to keep me satisfied in a shooter when the gameplay is so ho-hum.

I never understood why Grand Theft Auto VI got such high scores. Everyone I know seemed to love it right after it came out, mostly because of the visuals, but I think after a week or two everyone had just forgotten about it. Multiplayer? What multiplayer? The game was bigger, better and more fun back in Vice City and San Andreas. Despite the huge sales, Rockstar needs to take the game in a different direction for it to be interesting again. It's practically turning into self-parody these days.

I'll admit that the original Gears of War has some redeeming factors. The multiplayer is alright and the single-player mode, though pretty boring after the first chapter or so due to repetitive gameplay, has a sort of dark humour to it which I'm finding more interesting the second time through it (I'm pretty bored, you see). Still, I can't stand the enforced usage of the game's cover mechanics above all else (especially on high difficulties), and the fact that you've basically seen all the gameplay it has to offer after the first ten minutes or so kind of turns the entire thing into a gimmick. Also, like other shooters, it gets points knocked off for being slow. That seems to be a trend these days, especially in console games...

That's about it for me, for now. I could probably think of more to kick, but honestly there aren't too many games these days that strike me as vastly, terribly overrated. I suppose I don't like Call of Duty 4 very much, for example, but I have to admit that for all of its ancient gameplay mechanics and ridiculously linear and scripted single-player mode, it does do what it sets out to do pretty well. There aren't too many games these days that just fall flat-out on their faces.

Kingdom Hearts II. It's not that it's a bad game... The combat system is vastly improved, and I really enjoyed the Drives/Limit Breaks. I found it lacking, though, in a certain intangible quality that the first had.

No matter how many times I play it, the first one always feels unbelievably charming. I genuinely care about the characters, even the Disney characters I might normally detest, and I always find the overall experience to be somehow magical. The second game... Just doesn't have those qualities. For that reason, I believe it's overrated.

Half-Life puzzles: "Oh no! I can't drive my poorly handling air boat/dune buggy/car any further because the ground is higher on the other side of this teetering platform. Whatever shall I do? If only I had paid attention in fifth grade science!"

Left4Dead: Counterstrike/Half-Life 2/Anything made on the source engine + zombies. Woohoo. I'm pretty sure I've played that mod already.

Portal was pretty good, I'll give you that just because it was the only game Valve made with any shred of originality to it. Yes, I can say that while ignoring Noobtacular Drip or whatever it was called.

Funny considering it is not even out yet.

I would say every Halo, the past few Zelda games, Gears of War(even though it is good, but not GREAT), and The Witcher. The Witcher is great, but it is nor phenomenal so far.

Really? Because all of the previews I have read are comparing it to COD4 set in future. If that is true then it will be very different from the first KillZone.

So a game like COD4 set in the future with super cool technology is not special? Because COD4 is very special. It is awesome.

Oh yes, WOW. Thanks for reminding me. That is the hugest number one over rated game in the history of the world.

And this is COD4 set a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Whoop-de-shit. I already have COD4.

halo 2 & 3 yes. Definatly.

Gears of war 1&2, Portal, Civ IV, GTA IV.

WoW: Burning Crusade; guitar hero games/spawns; Wii sports (it's only value is it's basic enough to be enjoyed by all your friends who would usually diss you out for playing games)

Mirror's Edge (just you wait and see), silent hill 1 & 2, resident evil 1 & 2.

UNDERRATED? Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, for one... My favorite game in the series

Honestly? Ocarina of Time. Yes, it's damn good. Majora's Mask is better, as is Wind Waker. It's not the best Zelda game ever.

Oh, and of course the Halo games. And GTAIV. And CoD4, and... well, most FPS games nowadays.

Halo. Seriously, Halo is the most overhyped game franchise in the history of the industry. So much so, that the hype ruined it for me. Everyone was talking about how amazing it was and how it is so awesome that a hooker would jump out of the TV and give me hot, dirty nookie as I played it. The hype was stacked so high that my expectations could never possibly have been met. When I played Halo, my response was "...This is it? This is the game that everyone is shitting their pants over? Meh......."

I gave the series the benefit of the doubt and tried Halo 2...Didn't even get through the entire campaign before quiting. Didn't even try Halo 3, and frankly, never intend to. It was just SO OVERHYPED for the rather mediocre experience it offers. The hype murdered the game for me, and it was impossible to ignore the hype when they plastered Master Chief on fucking everything. I half expected to find Master Chief tampons in my girlfriend's bathroom...They put him on just about everything else.
