I quite like it. I am not keen on all the advertising blurbs but it seems quite nice all in all.
Im pritty happy with it so far, mostly because of the new friends section. The whole thing just feels simpler and smoother...apart from it freezing every now and then *grinds teath*
Looks a hell of a lot like the PS3 interface.
I'm glad you didn't call it the "New Xbox Experience".
I don't consider it to much of a "new experience". The PS3 is pretty much the same thing and the avatar is jacked right from the wii.
worthless. just an excuse to put more ads in. the blades were fine; it didn't need to be more "kid friendly" or "idiot friendly" just for the sake of ripping off wii (also terrible)
Agreed, it was perfect the way it was why did they mess it up by doing this?
I hate it. Too much crap on the dashboard, I miss my simple 5 blade layout. And that whole avatar thing is just pointless and annoying. Maybe it's just because I don't like change, but I wish using the new stuff was optional.
What I don't get is why they had to crop my background to hell? The original blade setup was nice and easy to use. This just has too much stuff going on to make it better than the original.
I call this."The Great Rip." XMB bar... Hmm lets reverse it and put it in, Hmm Miis? Lets make Xiis. (Who look exactly like Miis expect there heads don't fall off like those sneaky canadians..
I like it well enough, can't say I actually prefer it though. I did really hate the movie they made for it like it's the second coming or some such.
I like the new NXE. It's an update on the old look, there's also a load of new features like parties and (personally) I really like the new avatars.
I have never once seen an ad on my dashboard, everyone used to talk about them and be shocked when they saw that I didn't have them, anyone have a screen or a photo?
Avatars are pretty much wholesale copies on the same Mii concept (much like Sony's Home is really trying to get a slice of the same pie Second Life is enjoying), but the menu system really is more like a combination of Cover Flow and the old Windows Media Center from 2002 than it is a ripoff of XMB. I'm not completely satisfied, since some oddities remain, but I'm glad they got rid of the blades since it was far from the optimal solution. It was fine during release, but they had been cropping so much extra shit into the system that it was far from optimal or even logical. As for ads, there really aren't any more of them...most of them are tucked away in the spotlight channel they generally feel less intrusive than they were before. And hey, it's not like you even see the dashboard most of the time, since the new miniblades guide make it possible for you to do just about all the necessary functions sans buying things from the marketplace without going to the dashboard (switching games, for instance).
What about this? Not to mention the ads in the marketplace page, though there they were...more justifiable.
Nope, never once saw anything like those, them boxes just had green ripple like things in them.
Pointless. Redundant. It's just not neccesary. Was there anything wrong with the whole blades thing? I liked that. It was simple.
I personally like the new layout, it's much more slick and easy to view. I thought the avatars were well done and have personality something I think the Mii's lack. As for it being like the PS3 interface, I'd have to disagree. If it's like anything it's like Apple's coverflow. Also, if you don't want to create an avatar, just shut off the system when it asks you to start building one. next time you load, it'll take you to the dashboard.
its ok i miss the blades but whatever
Meh...I'm sort of indifferent to it. I liked the blades better but this isn't bad enough for me to give a flying squirrel*. I do like the new menu that opens with the Xbox guide button. So I can access everything (well, most things) from one place while playing a game without having to go back to the dash. *Yes that's right, I said squirrel.
My main complaint is the frequency of system crashes, i.e. freezing while navigating or playing an XBL arcade game, c'mon Microsoft!
Well if anyone besides me has EVER looked at the windows vista version of Windows Media Player, thats actually a big part of new dashboard, it has the scrolling from music to video and a bunch of other stuff. I admit though the avitars are ripped straght from the Wii, their trying to take a step more twards "casual"
Lets hope they go through with that idea, to allow you to get special items for your avatar once you complete achievements in certain games.. I want my Avatar to hold a Lancer when I beat Gears of War 3.
you may have a child account on an child account you are ristricted to view any ads
Hit the xbox button on controller, bam there is your blades. Cry babies.
They look the pieces of their competitor's ui's they liked. For some reason they liked the Cross/Grid thing the PS3 had and the Mii's the Wii has going for it... i'll be damned if i understand WHY they like it or anything.. and it took me a while to figure out how to play my game.. which seemed counter to the whole point.. but i've messed w/ it for all of 10 minutes.. including the download time.
the interface is nice despite the initial freezing it went through. I really like how it displays the avatars of the group that each of your friends are in, I just hope that they add some new features to the avatars WITHOUT charging me for them.
The interface was fine, although, honestly, I really don't care that much. I use my xbox to play games and stream music through it, and since I can still do both of those things, this really doesn't affect the experience much for me. I guess if you spent a whole lot of time on the dashboard switching back and forth through the blades for fun... I do like some of the new features too, like the updated party system and being able to copy games to the HDD. I've noticed a slight decrease in load times in Fallout 3, and, more importantly, I can't hear the Xbox while I'm playing, since the DVD drive isn't running.
I love the cleaner interface, and the avatars are growing on me....
Hush or we will go on strike! Canada on Strike! Canada on Strike! or maybe we will release Celine Dion back into the world. Muhahaha! While I like the look and the Miivatars are good for the casual crowd (ie. my family) my big thing is the hard drive ripping. Unfortunately I can only paw at the monitor displaying the preview at xbox.com because I have to wait till this weekend to bring it to high-speed.
I really don't like the Avatars but I do love the fact that I can download games and I don't have to listen to the noisy drive anymore. So peaceful.
Of course when I make a thread about this, It gets locked, but when other post this type of thread about the new dashboard, it gets 30 damned replies >.< (no offense to you..I like the new dashboard though ^^)
Can't say I'm a fan of it. Like I said on the other thread, there are so many new sub-menus it feels like I'm looking at each individual word instead of the entire page that the old blades were. Plus the Mii's piss me off with their cute-ness. Even if mine has a monocle. And evil red eyes. And a sweet suit.
Aparently the Avatars weren't total rip-offs of Miis.
That would be pretty sweet.

What are your thoughts about it?
Me i don't like it. It seems like there is to much stuff going on and I don't like how you have to create a "avatar" (Mii).
