Sound cues: If you hear them, you know where they are. Action: Edit: Just finished a run on expert with a few friends on Dead Air(sp), had a Tank corner us in the office and in the alley on second attempt, we got wrecked. Really hard to fight them in these tight spots. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3727 Joined: 8 May 2008 | Okay so I have only played it on normal soo far but the witch isn't really a issue. someone acts as bait and gets downed by her, everyone else shoot the shit outta her and she dies very easily. I have not been able to play online soo far so thats quite annoying but does the game actually have a story ? Like any cut scenes ? Not complaining just curious. *edit* Btw why the hell is L4D soo damn expensive ? Its not like its a real full freaking game. Its a quick shooter that mainly relies on multiplayer yet they still want $$100 for it. Fucking ridiculous. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1925 Joined: 20 Jul 2008 | Versus mode is really tough as the survivors since people don't understand the fact its a completely different game when people play as the special zombies. You have to keep moving! Don't stop! Jeez. Its not that freakin hard. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 719 Joined: 29 May 2008 | I enjoyed the demo, Its a pain though when your stupid teammates (human teammates) won't get in the freaking safe room, and then get killed. I finally just put a team mate down from a distance then went into the room to end the level. |

It's better than getting killed by a zombie, or worse, teammate when inside the Safe Room. |

That has to freaking suck! I finally closed the door to stop more zombies from getting in, because the team was screwing around, and a boomer popped up and barfed on all of them, and they got bum rushed. it was hilarious. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 547 Joined: 16 Nov 2008 | I myself have been enjoying the game immensely. Ive been playing a ton of versus, as i love that stuff. Campaign is fun too, especially with friends. But I'm having trouble with expert :P I can barely beat it on advanced soooo yeah. Besides that the game is fun as hell tho. The price is awesome, cuz im a 360 gamer and those cost like 65 bucks while i got my copy on steam for 45. And those witches give me the CHILLS. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 407 Joined: 12 Jul 2008 | Crowned: You win. I freaking love Left 4 Dead, it's exactly what I expected and wanted, buying it off steam is hell cheaper than shops too. Haven't played versus yet and as my net is down i haven't tackled anything on expert (need human allies for that, my friends). It's definitely one of my favourite games and I haven't even finished all the "movies". Can't wait til my net uncaps and I can lick people as a Smoker. If you find yourself playing with Zombie Mongoose, Molotov Cocktease or Sean Connery say hi to me :D. |
Muckraker Posts: 260 Joined: 17 Nov 2008 | I've played maybe 4-5 hours worth, and it's infinitely more fun with real people. I really love how intense it can get, and it's not so bad when you lose because i don't mind doing it all again (At least for now, since i'm new to it). Haven't played it on expert yet, and from what i've heard, i don't want to! Sounds hardcore! |
Paperboy Posts: 11 Joined: 19 Nov 2008 | I love this game, I play it a lot with my buddies, especially on versus mode. As for it not being "Hard" That's bullshit man. If you get a good team of infected they can pick you apart in a matter of minutes. I know personally. Last night, we had a team in the warehouse/hangerish section of blood harvest. A guy falls of the rafter and I pounce on him and claw his face off, while my teammate tank separates the three, two are in the building, and the guy who comes to save the guy I'm mauling gets choked by my buddy smoker. We killed their entire team in a matter of 2 minutes at best, and only a few feet away from the safe room. If you know what you're doing, you can pick apart most survivor teams easily. You need to stick together no matter what, rushing helps somewhat, but don't let anyone get left behind or you'll all end up dead from separation. As for the game itself it's really fun, especially being the tank and throwing cars at people. Also, even the main game can be really hard on expert sometimes, what with the regular infected doing 20 damage per hit and instant down friendly fire which happens all the time with the shotgun. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 547 Joined: 16 Nov 2008 | I completely agree with Reversal. A tank isn't neccesary to take down a group of survivors if you can coordinate well. A good example would for the 4 zeds to regroup on a roof, and spawn. As the survivors head out of the alley the boomer kamikaze's on top of them and hits say three of them with bile. The smoker on the roof strangles the guy who's not blinded, while the two hunters jump down and tackle the two who are blinded leaving the third to be hit by the infected until he can get up. You can deal a ton of damage, and you'll just spawn right back, while they treat their wounds with shallow spirits. With correct coordination, any aspect of this game can be amazing, and that's what i really like most about it. |

Or, wait for the smoker who spawned next to the witch to almost finish her off and then take her out with a pistol. I saw this happen last night :-) |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 687 Joined: 3 Jul 2008 | It's a great game, I'm enjoying it immensely. Not touching expert until I have a list of pro friends. The game does feel a little sparse, like a commercially-polished modification, but I don't feel my money was wasted at all. |

I would've liked more weapons than just the 5 the survivors can get, I can't help but feel even if they are great weapons, they could always have more. The great thing is though, they're gonna add new content like weapons and maps etc. like they do in tf2. I don't know if it will be achievement based, but the new content will insure even longer replayability. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 857 Joined: 13 Oct 2007 | I really love this game. playing as the antagonist is something very new, and it works brilliantly. I rather enjoy playing as the smokers. Especially when the other team doesn't pay a lot of attention. I've gotten really good at arcing the Boomer Bile to hit from a good distance away. I tend to hit at least 2 survivors at a time with it. Playing as a survivor in versus mode is probably one of the most visceral gaming experiences I've had. Especially when both teams are really good (the entire campaign came down to us winning by like 150pts) I foresee the game getting even more fun in the future. Valve is changing up their business model, where before, games were shipped as boxes, as is. Valve is pretty much releasing games as a service rather than just a static box. 2008, year of the co-op game |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 723 Joined: 7 Nov 2006 | As the person above me said, I have no doubt that in valve style we will see additions to this game. This game really is everything I expected and wanted, the most amusing thing for me yet was my entire team getting killed by a tank, I somehow manage to kill it's remaining HP with the sniper as it shambled forwards, I managed to complete the final 1/3rd of the level by myself, killing many smokers and hunters with fluky shots, spot the safe house just as I get rushed by a huge horde of zombies, manage to just make it to the safe room, but close the door too early, get wedged and die, less than a foot away from the safehouse. Fun times :D Also in versus mode, it's always fun pulling people up the vents as a smoker. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1374 Joined: 16 Jul 2008 | I'm a little dissapointed that there isn't an achievment for punching a hunter to death. However hitting a hunter in mid air as it comes towards you is effing cool, as is shooting one in the head mid-flight. Also, Valve were sadistic in creating that boomer. SO MUCH BLOOD! |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 547 Joined: 16 Nov 2008 | Lol, only problem i have with the smoker is its inability to walk after nabbing a survivor, to get out of view but then again that would be VERY unfair... |

$92 Avalon.. Or $88 at JB-HiFi Today... yum! |
Muckraker Posts: 296 Joined: 25 May 2008 | I played the demo and enjoyed it immensely...which is sad, cause now I'm more tempted to plop down full price for it. But alas, I'm broke and can't right now. Also I love playing Louis because I feel the need to help him survive...The black guy has too often been the first to die in horror movies and I feel the need to break down that stereotype by playing him. But I like Bill too cause he sounds like Captain Murphy from Sealab 2021. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 79 Joined: 22 Jul 2008 | i've been having trouble w/ the finales. I get my team through the majority of the campaign, usually i'm the only one who hasn't died. (i get the most damage, most kills, tank killer, witch killer, and constantly shoot hunters and smokers off my teammates so it's not like i'm hiding in the corner or anything) then me and the whole team get pwned the fuck out of in the ending. We must have played the hostpital rooftop like 10 times and never actually beat it. we saw the Chopper once, i was the only one still moving around, 2 dead, one i helped up from falling for his life. So i sprint to the chopper and run smack dab into the middle of a bunch of zombies, tank inbound, then i get a hunter to the face, and my team mate has got his pistol out shooting at... well.. the little little zombies around the roof he was on. I was yelling through the mike and typing at him "HELP ME!! HELP ME!!" and then i died.. cuz he didn't.. then he died. cuz he didn't see me type "TANK BEHIND YOU" |

$$99.95 Guess I wont be shopping from that site...
Thats USD. We are talking NZD. However it is still a hell of a lot for something thats basically only a multiplayer mod. |

I was playing versus with my friend and I had done the most damage to the survivors (killed 2 outright) with a hunter and he said, "bleeder, the head-hunter over here" it was a pun, and I'm a sucker for puns. |

You will love it.... Well, except all the dying... Just make sure you do Expert with 3 other human players...The AI players are rather stupid. |

They're actually pretty good, quite competent. But put a ladder in their way and all bets are off. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2108 Joined: 13 Dec 2007 | From what I've seen (the demo) it is perfection. Nothing that didn't fill me with glee. The A.I. is brilliant, and the sounds are wonderful (hearing sobbing, or the sound of a tank running at you...), and none of the characters are annoying! Damnations, I am such a Valve fangirl. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1672 Joined: 31 Mar 2008 | So far I've been through each "movie" campaign at least once, so I've started working on achievements that I haven't already gotten by pure chance already. For those of you that don't know, there is an achievement called "Akimbo Assassin" that you can get by using only pistols throughout an entire campaign. So, a day or so ago I ran through the "Blood Harvest" campaign trying to go all "Equilibrium" on the Infected's collective asses. I did get the achievement, but Blood Harvest was a very poor choice in campaign to try that out on. Gun-Kata for the win bitches. |

I gotta say, I read this, and agree with some points. Many people can be assholes, but its just part of the whole concept, and you will play with pleasant people many times. I own a 360 and live too, but own it for the PC. Why you ask? This is due mainly to the fact that my friends all play it on the PC, and I believe the game was made for the PC anyway. So if its not too late, id say try and return the xbox version i assume you purchased and buy a PC one. If you own the PC one already, add me! Steam ID Turtleboy1017, I'm not a prepubescent retard, and i own a mic, so if your ever in the mood. Also if you want to play some good old xbox, Gears, Halo, whatnot my gamertag is turteboy1017 (forgot the l :P) I believe the online gaming world is still young, and you'll always run into retards who think that cussing is the only form of communication, just grit threw it, find some pleasant people to play with, and enjoy the experience when you can I guess! Have fun! |

Now that the new killer from Valve has been out for three whole days, it seems time to think about the fun sleepless nights we've all been having.
Has anyone actually beaten the whole campaign on expert yet? How are those achievements coming? How in the HELL do you get cr0wned? If you own the game and have been playing it, state your pros and cons in it! Lets get those opinions out.
