My roommate has been talking about how much he wants to play Mirror's Edge for a while now. Went on about how cool the game looks and all that.
A little bit ago when they showed that you have to find the red objects to advance in the game he got pretty bummed because he has a red/green colorblind deficiency so basically he would suck at the game by default. Being that Red/green is the most common color deficiency I wonder if they will maybe make a color change patch? Or maybe someone a mod.
Anyone out there have a physical problem that makes gaming hard for you? How do you work with that?

Um, never heard of it keeping you from finishing a game before, but I am also red/green color blind.
You'd be surprised how many redish texts and presented on greenish backgrounds in games, and are impossible for me to read.

Well, Mirror's Edge is definitely hard to play if you can't see the red, however, on hard the runner vision is turned off anyway, so those red objects are the same color as their backgrounds, so chances are your buddy will have no problem completing the game, as it's rather easy.

Has he looked at the pictures they've shown demonstrating it? Because I think even with red/green colorblindness the "red" areas might stand out against the blandness that is the rest.

From what I've seen a lot of the game is quite linear and the runner vision isn't necessary to play. Towards the end it has been noted that it almost entirely loses its usefulness. Not to make light of the issue but I want to play the game through without the runner vision.

I turn runner vision off when I play. Makes the game more fun.

I'm completely colour blind in my right eye(aparently its a rarity to only have one colour blind eye) so with fast moving games it can be quite disorientating(No idea how to spell it!)

I'm red on green color-blind, and I have no problem playing it, so neither should he. ;)

I used to get motion sickness from FPS games, but got over it.

Like Spider Man's targeting system on the Playstation?

As previously mentioned, you don't need runner vision. In fact, having it off might make the game better entirely.

Your friend should give it a go.

There isn't an FPS you can put in front of my fiancee that won't give her vertigo.

Hmm I don't know first time I played through ME the Runner Vision was actually quite handy at some points. Escpecially a part where you have an white pipe you need to grab hold off which is resting against an all-white wall (it blended in so well I couldn't notice the damn thing until the Runner Vision kicked in).
But other than that it might take you a bit longer with some of the puzzles, although that's quite minimal.

What if I put it on the floor?

I get vertigo but not as badly, the bridge sequence on Half Life 2 does have my pulse racing though.
So the leaps of Faith would probably do me in, underwater bits tend to have me gasping as well.

Vertigo is just a certain type of dizziness, so I doubt that would help. Usually after about 30 seconds she gets motion sickness. I remember AnP 2 (I think) where you get to play as a baby facehugger, running up and down the walls and across the ceiling, really did her in.

Give her something like Katamari instead, or a nice 2d platformer like the New Super Mario Bros.

Yeah, Runner's Vision is an optional feature of the game and can be turned off. It makes the game slightly more challenging, but doesn't ruin the game. You can easily play the game without the red hinting.

Ooh man, I'm like that too. Fast movements and lots of blurring in video games make me really dizzy. Almost every FPS known to man is unplayable, going all the way back to Wolfenstein 3D. I wish I could play Left4Dead since it sounded so good, but alas it's out of the cards.

Tried playing an online game of Counterstrike once. That ended about ten minutes later with me laying down and gripping the mattress so I didn't fall to the ceiling.

Oddly enough, she loved Morrowind, and beat it. But, she played it in third person mode, which to me would be too weird. But ya, she's usually into gentler games like The Sims and Animal Crossing.

Whatever you do, don't let her play Descent.

I don't think she'd be able to play it for more than five to ten seconds. Hell, I hardly ever get motion sickness and I have trouble with that game at times.

unlucky, maybe you should try fiddling with colour settings until it works. I looked at the games and instantly thought that it would make a lot of people sick to play it because the camera moves in a way that would make certain people nauseous.
