Infamous Scribbler  Posts: 513 Joined: 20 Aug 2008 | I can understand why people would get annoyed with this kind of stuff when they are trying to complete a level but really, you have infinate continues and there's no real pressure to complete it quickly me & a few friends while being fully capable of completing the level usually turn to molotoving each other at really awkward times or closing doors on eachother generally being douchebags it is only a game afterall & L4D is a particually fun and relaxed game. |

I have to becareful when I am playing L4D or Team Fortress 2, because my Bad Halo Habits kick in and I get my self wasted. I think once I play TF2 alot more they will go away though. |

What you fail to understand is that people who do that are wasting the time of other gamers that want to finish the game. Not everyone plays games to "screw around" they play them for fun, and while fun is a gigantic subjective term, for me it means being challenged by a game, being pushed to the limit. Oh I screw with people sometimes as well, for example while playing the demo on the second level near the final part in the safe I tend to shoot the gas canister and watch the poor other 3 idiots die in a midst of flames :p. WoW was a mess as well, people wanting to form parties for a dungeon and at the middle of the raid/dungeon someone says: "sorry guys g2g." ; "hungry need food, bye". That is pants on head retarded, that'll mean you wasted at least 30 minutes for the other poor saps that are playing with you and more importantly trying to develop their characters. I love reaching goals, and completing a level in Left 4 Dead on expert for me is awesome. Extremely annoying when the AFK guy gets control of the Tank. Thankfully the vote kick works very well and quickly removes anybody screwing around. A few newbies but they seems to learn as we went along - the good thing about much Valve games is they focus on newbies AND more seasoned players. The newbies tend to find the game easy to understand, whilst the seasoned ones focus on more advanced tatics like area denial, etc. (PC version at least) |

What I don't understand is why they don't use the clearly labelled 'take a break' button to let the AI take over whilst they answer a phone (Like I had to once) or goto the loo (more than once) or whatever. Valve were smart enough to think about these things, heh. |

He kept running around on his own while we told him to slow down, etc. - then he'd say we're dragging him down and would brag about his kill count. He always kept dieing and I'd try to help him up but the others didn't. I can see why, the guy was a total ass. After I helped him up, he goes "God I am so tired of rookie players, I'm out!" Rookie?! You're the one who mistook this for counter-strike. Not me. |

i'm afraid even Hooting chimps suffer from hooting chimp syndrome... alas. Anyway. I havn't played that much, but i have played Lan w/ people next to you, and i can tell you that it makes it much more fun when you can yell "SMOKER! GET HIM OFF ME" not into a mike and have your buddy Yell "IGOTCHA MAN!" and actually get results communication is SOOOOO Much better in close proximity. ah.. such fun. |

Heh, I love those idiots. I'll be fair, I never brag about anything some people just are better at FPS's than others, and some are better at other stuff than others, it's what makes us different and adds a nice spin to it. What were we talking about? Oh right assholes huh, well usually when people start rushing on Expert I give them a break, if they don't get us killed fine but the moment we die and they start making jokes I'm out. Also I noticed that some people tend to friendly fire too much, but usually those people are using shotguns and well lets just say that trying to help your friend get that hunter out of him with a wide spread shotgun shot might not only hurt the hunter but the prey as well. Obviously you need to take that into consideration but remember children if you see someone friendly firing too much and they're using a shotgun well, give them a break and tell him/her what you think in a polite way. /Agree Most annoying thing ever, besides maybe this incident that happened to me yesterday. Person A was going for the Witch-Burning Achievement (whatever it is) and the team wandered past it, and being last in line, I was like "Hey Person A, the witch is back here." So, he wanders back with his Molotov like "Thanks dude!" and before he gets there, I say "Make sure you're flashlight is off." Literally 2 seconds before the witch yowls and separates his intestine from his body, I hear "How do I do that?" I wasn't sure whether to ROFL or be angry. Side Note: The percentage of douchebags on L4D is only about 1/5th of Halo 3, so I'm ok with it. Really like it when I'm playing with randoms, love it when I'm playing with friends. |

Come to think of it, I only remember really good games. ones where we either dominated the survivors. or games where it comes down to the wire. |

Don't be an asshole. Don't use racist or heterosexist slurs. Incidentally, I don't see this being a problem among regular readers of the Escapist. 2. Crouch if you're going to run between a teammate and zombies. 3. Stay close to your team. 4. Don't be too bossy -- if we're starting a group (terms like "clans" or "guilds" make me itchy) it's assumed that all of us understand the basic concepts of the game. It's good to remind other players of stuff, but don't bark commands at them. 5. Be reasonable about health replenishment. If you've got a pack or painkillers, use them to heal a teammate in need. If you're in the red and have supplies, heal yourself before asking someone else to do it for you. 6. If you've got a molotov and stumble across a pipebomb, trade up. Molotovs are annoying for so many reasons -- they render a large area impassable by your team, they create flaming zombies, and they can easily catch teammates in the difficult-to-estimate blast radius. Anyone have suggestions for additional rules? Also, if anyone wants to play, my gamertag is in the above-linked thread. |

This random guy joins our team, and we think "cool, a fourth guy". He begins killing the other zombies and saying "protect the humans". We tell him to stop killing us, he goes on a rant that I couldn't understand through his garbled mic. My friend and I tell him to shut up or fuck off, he calls me a fag repeatedly, I get pissed off, and he is booted. Laughed my ass of at how stupid people can be. |

Yup, got my first taste of ass on Left 4 Dead today. The vote system is supposed to stop this happening but it falls flat on its face when theres 2 of them. 2 guys running around with green health holding the medpacks while me and another guy limp on with red health and don't even get pills. I won't bore you with the details, but they were so convinced they were so superior to me and the other guy, even though I was outscoring them both (sometimes even combined). Then they struggled to realize why we couldn't complete the rooftop rescue on expert mode when they would only help each other up.
I don't understand why you find people like that on Left 4 Dead. People don't seem to realize its a team game and if you don't cooperate you lose. Still, that doesn't stop me getting shot in the back of the head with a shotgun for taking 'his medpack'.
Anybody else seen this kind of crap? Other than that, the game is awesome.
