Something that bothered me........(Starfox related....and Smash Bros Brawl I guess...)

Why in the name of bloody blood did they change Wolf's accent in Smash Bros? What the hell was wrong with his British accent in Starfox 64? I know this might be a bit slow on the trigger, but it just bugs me each and every time I play the game. Before he was a somewhat smooth talking British prick. Now he's just a growling, menacing, cliched stereotype of an anti-hero....I want my sexy Wolf back and back now you son of a bitch! I know where you live NINTENDO! ....I just don't have the money to travel there....But one day! ONE DAY I WILL! And I will bring my British friend over just so I can have him do a smarmy British chuckle while I get my revenge!

.....Also I want to hear that voice actor again, he was quite good from what I remember. That might just be nostalgia though, but if it isn't anyone know any other games he's voice acted for?

Apparently Grant Goodeve voice acted the English version of Wolf in Starfox 64, though the only source I've found for that so far is a castlist on gamefaqs. It's neither under his IMDB nor his wiki page, though he is listed as Wolf for Starfox: Assault.

I kinda like Wolf's accent in Brawl. Granted, I've never played any of the Star Fox games so I can't compare, but from what little I know of Wolf's character, that brash American accent he has seems fits his arrogance. He is arrogant, right? Cos that's what his dialogue and even actions in Brawl make me think. There's a certain flourish to his movements and attacks that make him seem a bit of a showoff (not as much as Falco though), very feral and extremely dangerous.

Interestingly enough, Grant Goodeve also does the voice of the Engineer in Team Fortress 2.

"Spy sappin' mah Landmaster!"

This is what Wolf's Starfox 64 voice sounds like.

Personally, I always found his British accent a bit cliche. He always sounded like one of those stereotypical "hands on management" head boss types that leads his "elite squadron" into combat, only to be slaughtered within minutes.

His Assault and Brawl voices, on the other hand, seemed much more in line with his character. He's intimidating and brutal, and given the chance, he'd tan your hide in straight one on one, rather than go in with his loyal but unqualified lackeys.

I thought Starwolf in Brawl was creepily homo-erotic
I really don't like Nintendo's creepy man-crush on StarFox though considering they love to put him in awful sequels

After the debacle that was Starfox Command (which they have now declared will most likely not be official continuity) I think that honeymoon is probably over.

Still Nintendo's mancrush on Starfox is preferable to fanfiction writers'/yaoi fangirls' mancrush on Starfox *shudders*

Having said that I think Wolf's SF64 voice kind of fit him as a bit of a cocky british guy, but his Brawl voice is definetely far more fitting and brash.

Brash? As in long nails and eyeshadow brash?
I think a badass military officer uniform and brutish fighting style would have been way cooler

First off, they're claws, there is a difference.

Secondly he doesn't file them at any given point in time ever in Brawl. There's no shuddering or breathing in sharply...unless you're on a bunch of mind-altering substances while you play. I wouldn't know, since playing sober usually results in better gameplay for me. Or you just horrifingly misinterpret animations on a regular basis...or your subconcious is a scary place. I have no idea, these are just guesses.

Please explain to me how the fighting style of "I'm going to claw your goddamn face off" is not brutish. And also explain why a mercenary would wear a full military uniform. Take your time, there are no wrong answers, just the wrong questions for me to ask apparently.

On another note, I have to agree that Falco's anomalous New Yorker accent was weird as hell.

Hey, give Nintendo a break, they have to choose between him or Mario....Bowser....Wario..Waluigi..Link maybe, but I think that would be considered Shotacon in some cases...Peach is a lame-brain, Zelda is a brat, and Nes and Lucas are again Shotacon. So really you have to think that the yaoi Nintendo employees don't have that many choices. I mean honestly who wants to..Ok not finishing that.

"Can't let you do that StarFox..."

I should play SF64 again really. Either that or I could just youtube a video of his voice to remind me..

After watching this, I prefer his 64 voice. The Assault voice makes him out to be gruff mercenary who half grudgingly half willingly helps Fox out and acts as some sort of punch-clock villain, for lack of a better term. His 64 voice always gave off the rightful impression that Wolf is a proper fulltime antagonist and rival to Fox.

Wolf's cooler though >_>

Sidenote while we're on the topic of VAs for SF, Alésia Glidewell did the voice for Krystal in SF: Assault, but also in SSBB. I haven't seen her in SSBB, did I miss something? :s She also did the voice for Zoey (L4D) and the face/body of Chell (Portal), intriguingly.

At the end of the day and accents aside, The Starfox characters should speak in Lylat language ONLY.

Yup. Couldn't agree more. And they changed the "HYAAAH!" up+special move for Fox and Falco from melee into the less satisfying "FEI-YER"

I did, but it's been a fairly long time since I last played and/or completed it. Do elaborate for a man who's memory is not as good as it could be.

Lylat language is gibberish, you can turn it on instead of the english in SF64, and it is also somewhat featured in SF Command (although there it's probably more a question of the DS limitations).

And why are we suddenly complaining about Star Fox being clique? Hasn't it been from the very beginning? Also I think if we are going to bash voice acting in SF, we should start at Slippy in Starfox Adventures *cringes*

As littaly said, it's just gibberish. But it's so funny and it's so much better than the cringingly strong American accent they all speak in now. No offense. I also hate Falco's accent so don't feel like I'm picking you out :)

Another minor point, what the hell's up with Wolf's left eye? In SF64 he's got an eyepatch which implies he doesn't have an eye there anymore/it's too damaged to use. Here in Starfox 2 it shows Wolf with both eyes working but a scar over his right eye, not his left, and in SSBB here we see him with some sort of..I dunno, "scouter" for lack of a better term, which implies he can use his eye.

-_- Stupid character design.

Wow sorry for insulting a StarWolf who is apparently one of your close relatives given how how ferociously you defended his honor back there. And while were on the topic of outfit choices Im pretty sure when your a bunch of anthropamorphic talking animals who fly spaceships your outfit can be whatever you damn well please. So pardon me dear fan boy when i think that Starwolf might look cooler if he didnt look like he raided hot topic

"Thanks, Fox! I thought they had me."

Upon reflection, I'm pretty sure that Slippy was actually a very bad transvestite. His voice is simply too high pitched and disgusting to be anyone's actual voice.

Well, I never listened to the things Wolf said in Brawl, I was always too busy with the game. Me and my friends talk a lot of crap while we play, so it was a bit too loud to hear the in-game dialog. I wouldn't have known he didn't have known he didn't have a British accent if you hadnt told me.

Well, I don't remember the canonical timeline for the games ever being established, so who says that the reason his wounds change is because it later and later? Plus, he could be wearing an eyepatch for the challenge of flying with no depth perception.

Do you know about Fox and Falco's special taunts on Corneria in Melee? How if you press down on the dpad extremely quickly it opens up a radio link with the Star Fox team?
It's back in Brawl, in the Lylat Cruise stage. There's a few seperate ones for all three of the Star Fox fighters, and Krystal shows up in some of them.
