Yes, yes they do. Newer parts have the problems that the old one had fixed. |

I'm hoping to upgrade my 20GB hard drive soon. It stinks especially now that you can install games on your 360. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1554 Joined: 10 Sep 2008 | I have a question about the RROD, when did this start, and why haven't they fixed the problem before they are shipped out of the factory with the newer models? I mean this has been going on for a while now, you'd think they would just recall the systems in the stores, fix whatever is causing the problem and then releasing an updated model that doesn't have whatever causes the RROD in the first place. |

I'm not sure what causes it (I think it's an overheating problem) but they have fixed it for the most part in the newer models. |

well, that's an improvement I suppose but i wish they would remove the problem altogether, since I'm going to be buying one next week as soon as I get paid(and if they aren't sold out because of Christmas). |

For all intents and purposes, they are fixed. Just get a new one and not a refurbished one and you'll be okay. |

I would have been fine with that, I could have just played it on a friends, but I had just gotten back from California and it was the day after Black Friday. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 4269 Joined: 13 Aug 2008 | I always wanted to use this for something, so here goes. This has happened to me once, but before that I had a system error with just one quarter of the ring shown as red, but that happened twice. I kept the console, but now that it has had a full red ring of death I might consider getting a new one, it depends on how well it does once I get it back. |

haha, that about covers my reaction but right afterwards it was like "WHY ME!?! WHY ME!?!" |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1084 Joined: 17 May 2007 | Just to represent the silent majority (at least I think it's a majority), I've never had the RROD. Touch wood. I suppose to give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt, a lot of people probably put their Xboxes in heat-prone spots like confined spaces or where the sun shines through the window etc. It's still not a good record, but the stories about people who've had to replace their console 10+ times make me think "the common variable here is you". |

You're right but your rarely gonna hear on the internet, "OH my consoles fine, Ladedadeda!" welcome to the angry forum!!! |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 514 Joined: 9 Jul 2008 | I have an Elite and have never once had a problem with it. Well, unless you count that I can't log into Xbox Live due to "invalid membership information". But I'm guessing that has nothing to do with Xbox 360 hardware, now does it? |

I just recently had mine come back from repairs and instead of doing a refurb, Microsoft's subcontractors for repairs (Celestica Inc. here in Canada) sent me a brand new box made in August 2008. So, to answer your question, DO NOT waste your money on a new box. The old ones are being phased out and replaced with ones that carry either the Falcon or Juniper (or Jasper?) chipset. These are much quieter and also come with quieter DVD drives. Finally, they by and large eliminate the overheat issue. Hope that helps. |

First thing wrong there is that you have the console on its side blocking one of the fan vents. |

I would have a tendancy to agree. Two and a half years now and no problems. *knocks on wood* |

Console was designed to be on its side. Nowhere in the instructions does it say "You must not put this piece of crap console flat or it will kark it". The vents at the back and sides were all clear. I know its become an unwritten rule now though, but I still think it sucks considering the PS3, PS2, and Wii can work on there sides without issue.
It's not on the floor. That's like the TV stand thingy. |

Clearly what happened here is your 360 and PS2 got into a deathmatch while you were sleeping...guess who won? Anyway, you're righ on the money about having it on its side, it doesn't make a difference. I am on my 6th 360 since its launch..I sigh and get the box ready everytime it happens. I have never found an effective way to keep these bloody things going. |

I know. It's just luck really. My mum (a 66 year old gamer) has one of the earlier Xbox360s which hasn't had any RRoD issues. It's DVD draw won't open unless a disk is in it but she can live with that. I love the game library for it and I am pleased I bought the machine, don't get me wrong. But jeez they didn't make them very well. |

The steady rate at which elites come back to my HMV with red rings says they haven't fixed anything but the press release. The Gamestation next door is getting plenty of 'fixed' models back too. The 360 seems to be a fundamentally flawed design, the only way I can see it being 'fixed' is if the internals were binned altogether and started from scratch. But of course that won't happen, it's much cheaper to make some slight internal changes and say 'we fixed it,' without addressing the actual problem (poor quality design/manufacture!). Get an extended warranty. |

Wow you and me must be the lucky ones, I mean to me its like the red rings are a myth. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2633 Joined: 30 Sep 2008 | The wierdest thing was, the day I realized my Xbox was still fine after a whole year... it RROD'd. |
BANNED Posts: 172 Joined: 12 Aug 2008 | hmm I've been seeing alot a people complain about PAYING for their 360.my 360 got the RRoD and microsoft repaired it for me free(in less than 2 weeks) and I even got a month worth of Xbox live for free.I really didn't mind waiting for my xbox to come back. I have had to replace my xbox 360 once already, and now my second on is on the brink, I have had it shine the "true" red ring three times now but unplugging it, and restarting have brought it back. At first I thought The way my xbox was freezing was because of bad game discs, but after buying A brand new copy of mirrors edge and having the same issues, and having it flash the last two times today alone. well any way I was wondering if the Xbox arcade, elite, or the new 60gb bundle, had lower red ring percentages, since I might go with a new one this time round.
