Well what?

I hate them for the most part, but I also see that I can be a Fanboy about games, systems, etc, etc.

So do you hate Fanboys, Do you love to hate them, or are you one......>.<

Sympathy. They won't give anything else a chance and therefore do not recieve the benefits from trying it. Unlucky for them.

I utterly detest them. They are largely responsible for destroying gaming.

Here is another question I guess you could answer, Why are there Fanboys? Where did it come from, what game, or system created these people..

Rabid, insane, 13-year old sweaty boys that drinks too much cola... I don't like them, they can do whatever they want as long as they don't come bitching to me.

I have very strong feelings of hate towards the expression "fanboy". It's tossed around a lot, really. It lacks any real sort of meaning, it's basically a way of saying "you like this, and because I don't you are a narrow minded idiot".

Well...fanboy to me implies someone who is so devoted to a particular thing (usually a movie, video game, book or TV show) that it borders on obsession. That doesn't bother me by itself. What bothers me are the fanboys who feel that they need to insult anyone who doesn't agree that this thing they worship is so great.

They refuse to see anyone else's point of view and look upon anyone who prefers an opposing or different game/book/movie/TV show as lesser beings. There are quite a few of those types of people on The Escapist, PC and PS3 fanboys being most prevalent on here. I won't name names, don't want to start arguments.

I despise Nintendo fanboys.
Whats wrong with you people?
Mario fucking sucks. I didn't like a single game involving this creepy fat midget. I wouldn't pick up any (newest at given time) Nintendo console from the sidewalk if I encountered one.

but I'm the type of gamer who feels most satisfaction when leveling up his character or writing someone "pwned" with his keyboard.

Anyone who is not wealthy enough to afford all four next-gen systems = fanboy

Awesome.

wikipedia:
Philosopher George Santayana defines fanaticism as "redoubling your effort when you have forgotten your aim"; according to Winston Churchill, "A fanatic is one who can't change his mind and won't change the subject".

What's not to like.

They exist because certain folks spending hundreds of dollars on a console never want to admit that their purchase is in any way unwise.

Aren't fanboys really people who are so devoted to their obsession that they are incapable of accepting any level of flaw with said obsession? Even going as far as trying to justify it or counter claim it?

No they don't bother me. In the old days I would go toe to toe with these guys and posts would come thick and fast with no one giving an inch. The funny thing is after about post 7 you're just saying the same thing and they are just rephrasing stuff they said in the posts before.

Now when I find that I or they are repeating something they said before I call it a day because I know it's going no where.

[Fanboys] refuse to see anyone else's point of view and look upon anyone who prefers an opposing or different game/book/movie/TV show as lesser beings.

The irony of course is that the mythical fanboys in question are constantly singled out as "lesser beings" by the all-seeing and all-knowing elite objectivist crew. Fanboyism as a concept has been turned on its head (at least around here) and is now almost always associated with enjoying - rather than disliking - something. It seems to me that if someone prefers a particular game, system, developer or controller they are by default a "fanboy". Enjoy Mario? Casual Miyamoto fucker. Enjoy Halo? M$ rent boy. Enjoy Metal Gear Solid 4? Kojima bondage slave.

The ratio of anti-fanboy rants to (alleged) occurrences of fanboy short-sightedness on The Escapist is approximately 1000000:1. Are we all afraid of enjoying things to such an extent? Having spent several hundred pounds on the only system I can afford I reserve the right to extol its virtues to the rest of the world. Now forgive me while I ice some Chimera in my TOTALLY AWESOME 60 PLAYER ONLINE.

We are all fanboys for one thing or another. Admit it.

I mostly detest them... But i guess I'm a fanboy of certain things and it makes me kinda hypocritical. But I try to be cynical and calculating about things i like.

But yeah, some fanboys are incredibly annoying and a scourge upon the world.

I think if you're a fan about something, that's perfectly fine. But, if you're a fanboy that instantly hates anything different than what you like, and loves anything by (insert fandom here) regardless of its merits, then there is something wrong. Things should have to earn your adoration based on their on their own merits, not how good the thing that came before it was.

I can also agree to that, It seems to be that The Escapist is very Anti-Fanboy. Maybe there is a Fanboy backslash happening!!

Hmm It seems your Superego is unable to control your Id. Maybe it is the medium that you are communicating on that makes your Superego unable to control your id. Knowing that you are unknown on the internet can unleash the Id without regrade.

Yes we are. I am a Final Fantasy fanboy. The difference between myself and the types of fanboys I was talking about, is that if someone tells me they don't like Final Fantasy, I accept it as their opinion and move on with my life. I don't start an argument with them or insult them because they don't like it.
