Or the type of Fanboy who still says Sonic is great even though all his games since the mega drive have been crap? I'd say we are all fanbo... fanpeople to at least some degree. :P |

The Jim Stirling of the Destructiod blog calls out the fanboys who are lowering the level of video game debate. Oh, that ironing. It's so gosh darned delicious. |

How does it go again? Ah yes. Ahem... I'm not a fanboy, but... (insert longwinded character assassination of Steve Dark with hints that it may be withdrawn if he publicly acknowledges that Mario is and always has been immeasurably better) (insert snide remark questioning the parentage of anyone, and Steve Dark in particular, who would willingly acknowledge other game series than Mario) |

Heh, "Cream the Rabbit". Someone in the design team must be a Furry. With Sonic, and Tomb Raider, and arguably Metal Gear Solid, I wouldn't call it 'Fanboyism' as such. For most of us, it's more... denial. Everyone (that is, everyone worth speaking of) remembers how amazing the Sonic games were, and how fantastic the original Tomb Raider was. Time has not been kind on these franchises, but because we remember how good they once were, we continue to hold on to the belief that they will be that good again. |

And how has gaming been destroyed? It seems like a very buoyant market with a strong indie sector and some innovative pushes from the giants. |

Try telling that to Unreal Tournament. After mindless fanboys screamed support for it no matter what kind of state it was in, whatever flaws it had, Epic made a chop-job and crapped it out onto to a chorus of joy filled fanboys and glowing reviews. But the gaming public who were not fanboys instantly saw what a huge stinking pile of crap it was, and just woundn't touch it. The result is a game that tanked immediately and has nothing left but a few stubborn fanboys congratulating themselves when they actually find a server with any players on it. Look at the state the PS3 is in now. Their colony of fanboys created a culture of hubris in Sony, they were convinced that whatever they did the PS3 would be as much a success as the PS1 and 2. So they delayed release, massively overcharged for their top-heavy console, and gave it a whole bunch of crap it didn't need. Look at Too Human. Denis Dyack never listened to all the people telling him his game was heading ino disaster. Never listened to all the critics saying this game was looking utterly sucky. Never listened to all the people who played the demo and said it needed to be put back and altered radically for it to work. Instead he listened to the fanboys who said it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. And the game ended up being the biggest turkey of the year. Fanboys damage the very products they claim to support. |

Yeah, them, and Nintendo together are fully responsible for destroying gaming. I hate Nintendo, and I hate the people that bought one. But about fanboyism now. Is fanboyism the liking of a person towards a certain thing? Or the defending of that thing by said person? A person that defends Nintendo for instance...Is that automatically a Nintendo fanboy? Or is there a way to defend a console, or a video game company without being a fanboy? Where is the line there? Personally, I don't mind fanboys. I'am a hate boy, so I find it normal that there are fanboys. It's just the balance of the force I guess. |

Naah, Nintendo didn't destroy gaming. They tried to (although they themselves didn't see it that way). Their almost open hostility to mature games, their pathetic commitment to endless Mario rehashes, and their completely unethical business practices. This is yet another reason why fanboys are so retarted. The only reason market forces have any impact at all is there is competition. If Nintendo wasn't going to produce adult games, Playstation would exploit that opening, thus the GTA, Silent Hill and other franchises were born. It is best if each and every platform works on out-doing each other, and it is best for us gamers that not one of them gets a monopoly ever again. Even if you only ever play Xbox games, you need the PS3. You need the competition breathing down Microsofts neck so they actually put effort into keeping your custom. Would they really have extended their RRoD warranty if it wasn't for the competition of the PS3? |

Very well said. I agree with you on every single point. Although my hate for Nintendo has some irrational and instinctive motivations. |

Come on not every Sonic game since the Megadrive has been bad. There are some good ones. Like SA2B. Anyway I don't like fanboys who think that their opinion is the only right one. I'm a fanboy myself. I love the MGS series but I don't say stuff like "MGS is the best game ever and everybody who says something different is an idiot!". |

Now why would I be attacking PS3 owners? I own one myself and I love it. I also own a PC, although it's incapable of being used for gaming. But I would be a PC gamer if I owned a good enough PC. Also, what derision are they reacting to? Perhaps I'm alone in this but I rarely, if ever, see a 360 fanboy talking crap about the PS3 on these forums. It's almost always the other way around here. Though I do see it frequently on many other forums. |

Yeah PS3 fanboys exist because you if you buy something that is 700 dollars you better talk yourself up about how badass you are with your 700 dollar paper weight. (now its 400, still my points still remains.) |

I hated the PS3 before it was cool, douchebags. I'm almost forced to like the console because of the whole hate bandwagon shit that follows the whole thing. |

Got to agree with that. It's the PC snobbery that goes with it. EDIT:

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 941 Joined: 28 Jul 2008 | Fanboys suck, although its not game fanboys that piss me off (except WoW ones), its those damn Xbox 360 fanboys that make me want to put a pistol under my jaw. Almost every Xbox owner, regardless of whether they are casual or hardcore gamers are apaprently not beneath whining about how much the PS3 sucks. Hell, if I ever get a console, it'll be the PS3 for the reason that there are almost no PS3 fanboys, you don't have to pay to use your internet and the new Xbox Live "Experience". More like Xbox Live sticking-your-dick-in-an-alligators-mouth-would-be more-fun. So, you get adverts, a shitty new layout and a feature to burn games to your hard-drive (which would be more useful if the Xbox 360 Elite's HDD was bigger than a wimpy 120GB, and the normal one has a 20GB!?! HDD). The shit I hear from Xbox owners about why the PS3 "fails" is laughable, and the list goes on and on, when I try and correct my friends on one of their ridiculous claims, they just talk over me so I can't prove how wrong they are. One even said the 360 had better hardware... fail. Then they claim that PC gaming is on the brink of destruction, as consoles become more and more PC like. Actually, now that I think about it, all consoles are a waste of money with my new PC, PC fanboys FTW. I suppose in the end, whatever suits you, go with it, but don't try and change my preference, and if you are, at least have *realistic* facts, not ones from weed-world, you dirty console gaming peasants ;) |

I won't change your preference only label you a PS3 fanboy. I hate all fanboys though I hold a particular grudge towards PC fanboys as they have somehow managed to mix fanboyism wth Elitism. But fanboy is just a new label for rose tinted glasses; we had fanboys millenia ago they wouldn't shutup about "in my days" and leave anyone alone, in fact they are still around. |

Ok, label me a PS3 Fanboy, it'd work better if I owned one, dumbass. I think I clearly stated that I'd never own one while I have a PC, and who here doesn't have a PC? |

I think it's because we think the PC is a better platform then any console... Oh wait. |

Hahahahahaha! PC shouldn't be compared to consoles though, even though it is. A gaming PC can easily do much more, much better than any console, so its not really fair. It's like comparing a plane to a land vehicle. |
