Unitology - It's a joke right? (Possible spoilers - Dead space)

I completed dead space yesterday (bows) - I liked it.. it's my opinion.. you don't have to share it.

Throughout the game Unitology has been mentioned, and through a textlog i found somewhere in chapter 10 or something like it that, I saw some coincidences between unitology and scientology. Something about the founder being a writer and the fact that you had to pay the church to attain a more influential rank.

I think there are more shared characteristics between the two, but I can't think of anymore right now

Does anyone else see Unitology as a sort of parody on Scientology or am I completely of the mark?

When I uncovered the stuff about unitology, my friend was there, and when we were done reading/listening to the logs, we both looked at eachother and said... scientology

Regardless, this is the internet. It will not be long before someone starts thinking it's a real religion, and starts a real world church.

The whole Scientology spoof thing's been done before - Fallout 2 notably had the Hubologists, and that was in 1998.

if you've seen Dead Space Downfall, it goes even further into detail. And how theres only like 1 Unitologist on the entire ship that isn't a fanatical religious nut.

Well unitology certainly reminds me of scientology, and I wouldn't be surprised if the writers who created unitology were "influenced" by scientology, but I don't think they were making a statement about it. Well, maybe they were saying a little bit about it, but more about weird sci-fi cults in general than just scientology.

I have a feeling they are making fun of Scientology and Tom Cruise. Nothing wrong with that in my book.

All hail.....the Unitologist?

As you're reading those text logs, explaining in detail the beliefs of the Unitologists, it's much funnier if you imagine a banner across the bottom of the screen with the message, "This is what Scientologists actually believe".

Also, imagining Tom Cruise as a bloated, slavering beast that explodes, spewing out tiny versions of himself, isn't a difficult stretch of the imagination.

oh, yeah...Tom Cruise is a scientoligist...

Sadly:( He was a good actor until he turned into a nut case, now when I look at him, all I think about is him jumping on Oprah or him doing that freak laugh.

That banner was probably what actualy made me laugh about the OT3 teachings thing I saw the rest was just wierd; kinda like a fox news banner ;).

I think the huge bloated Tom Cruise already shot out a tiny tiny version of himself...it landed on Earth and became an actor.

This isn't the first time that Scientology has been riddiculed in games.

I know that one of the fallout games (cant remember witch) has a church with referendces and Earthbound have the Blue guyes with surprisingly similar ideas as Scientology.

i have played a hell of a lot of games and this is my fav fictnel relign they belleve the marker will bring them the secret to eternl lif. ALTMAN BE PRASED lol
