So. Prince of Persia. As you may have guessed, I'm a fan.

The original Prince of Persia series is my favourite game franchise ever. Sands of Time is my favourite game ever. Warrior Within, while a bad design choice in terms of tone, was a very good game that won me over in the end. Two Thrones is a great, great game that blends the two that just misses Sands of Time in terms of awesomeness.

Now. The new Prince of Persia. When I first heard, I was excited. Like multiple nerdgasm excited. I saw it on the front cover of Edge magazine and bought a copy when out with my mates and bored them silly by spending the rest of the day reading that article...over and over. It looked awesome. The graphics looked incredible, I loved the look. I liked the idea that they were restarting the franchise, as the original trilogy deserves to be left as it is. I...WAS...HYPED!

Then...err. The cracks began to show. In later gameplay videos my love for the art style turned to a feeling of muh. It looked a hell of a lot like Final Fantasy and I'm a really not a fan. The combat started to just look like quick time events. They had gone from the button mashing of most of the original games to the extreme opposite. It looked like one huge quick time event. Even after all this I thought "Well, at least the story will be cool." Maybe not. Out of interest I bought another copy of Edge magazine for the train (not worth it by the way. Finished the whole thing in half an hour and it was a 4 hour journey.) There infusiasm seemed to have gone down the toilet too. What's more, they said that the dialog was Ass!

My interest has peaked a little recently. The recent IGN (I don't trust them, but I'm trying to find a life line here guys!) gave the game a 9.6 (I think) and said it was a return to form for the franchise.

Basically, I'm stumped. Are you guys buying this game, renting it? Or you just letting it slip by? Personally...I'll wait for more reviews and if they say its good (in Yahtzees case, he says its not terrible) I might get it. But I think I may have to go into this game with a different mind set. This is not Prince of Persia. It might be good, but it's not the Prince. It's a fresh prince.

At the minute I'm indifferent. It all looks a bit daft, maybe I'll give it go later in the year.

I originally despised it with a passion, but lately, I've been thinking of giving it a shot. Who knows, it could turn out well.

Rent before buying....That's my policy.

I personally like that art style and such. What would deter me from buying it would be the lifespan and the fact that there is a lot of platforming. I believe the direction the designers took was to have duel type battles, so there won't be multiple enemies on screen. While this sounds pretty cool, I just feel that the majority of the game is going to be fleshed out with platforming.

aye, I never buy first, too risky to end up with something that is complete rubbish. As for the new Prince, I am pretty excited, the game looks good, and did very well at E3, so I will definitely be renting this when it comes out.

Perhaps, but it seems to have picked up Japanese-flashy-lights-and-stars-combat-syndrome, also I don't like the look of the second character. The other 3 were good though.

I heard it was a bit too easy and short. I'll give it a rent though.

I buy it. Maybe it's not going to be so bad like I think.

You may as well rent it. If you liked the previous games then there is probably bits you are going to like and if you like it buy it. If its a game you dont like at least you wont waste money in buying it

You should have a 'don't know' option. Because I don't know if I'll even rent it. I've got burned THAT way, where a game was so bad it wasn't even worth the 7 or 8 bucks to rent it (*cough* Two Worlds *cough*).

The game looks ok, so I'm hoping they come out with a demo and/or see what reviews say on average.

I've noticed that Ubisoft is pretty much using their names for recognition and nothing else. Soon we'll be seeing this as long as it gets Ubi more money:

I will admit that I am probably a little too hyped for this game. I've got it pre-ordered, and the fact that my Xbox's AV cable is on the fritz the week it drops has got me so pissed I could shoot lasers from my eyes. The art style looks amazing, the duel-based combat looks incredibly shiny and cinematic, and the dynamic between the Prince and Elika seems incredibly polished.

I really don't know what to think of it at the moment, been pre-ocupide with other things :P

However, it doesn't seem all that different, I don't know how much they have changed the basic aspects of the game, but it doesn't look like they did anything major other then the style and graphics.

Over all I think it will be a fun game, but a game worth buying? that still remains in question.

I think the new Prince of Persia looks fucking awesome.

So yeah, I will be getting it.

Love the new art design, like what I have heard about the new story/gameplay direction, so yeah, definately will be getting it.

(note: I am a big fan of the series, but The Sands of Time trilogy is DONE, Finished, Finito, a new story and angle were needed, DEAL WITH IT)

I know someone who's buying it for sure, so I'll borrow it from him when he finishes it.

I want to kill whoever thought it was a good idea to go with that art style. The overwhelming majority of games that use it end up looking like complete ass or have gaphics that end up jumping all over the quality spectrum.(See Tales of Vesperia for a recent example.) I can count the games that managed not to fail with that kind of style on one hand. The more I see of the game the less I actually want to play it.

Seriously? The art style is one of the main things that keeping my faith there with this game. This is the most beautiful cell shaped game I've ever seen, period. Its incredible how it all looks like water colours

I think I might be getting this in January, or might recommend it to a friend so I can play it on his laptop to see what it's like. (I know it sounds kind of harsh, but I'll look at people's response first and show him a couple of videos before telling him to buy it.)

Dude, the art style is actually original, and it will probably lag way less this way. IMO it looks great, though I wouldn't have it for any other game. It's not like it's World of Shitcraft graphics or anything.

The art style is hardly original (Not that original art style really matters but that is a different topic.) Tales of Vesperia for example looks ok until you see the fire effects which are almost worse than Haze's and those were attrocious. That damn black outline around the characters in POP makes them both look like they are not apart of the level FFS!

See here:image

They would have been better off if they followed ZOE 2's lead and ditched the black outline entirely or did not use it as they have on the characters.

That sounded like Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Monarchy was why I was born and raised
Forgotten temples was where I spent most of my days.
Speed it up, fast forward, stop and rewind.
Doin crazy acrobatics that'd mess up your mind.

Yeah, that sounds nice.

I'm biased against Ubisoft for being asses at porting games for the PC so if it comes out I'll probably pirate it. Hard.

I never liked the Prince of Persia franchise, it's not exactly my flavor for a game, but if somehow it surprises me in a good way I'll probably buy it.

Anyone else getting a final fantasy X vibe from those screenshots?

I'm going to give it a whirl, just to see how it is.

Now, this is a story all about how
My life got flip-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute, just sit right there,
I'll tell you how I got to be the Prince of Persia.

In western Arabia, born and raised
In the palace was where I spent most of my days,
Chillin' outside and running up walls
And dodging the traps in my father's grand hall
When a big bad vizier, who was up to no good
Started makin' trouble in my neighborhood.
I broke one ancient seal and the town was killed
And so now I have to fix things with my wicked skills.

I went to do a sequel, and when it came near
It had red-dyed bangs and eyeliner that was smeared
If anything, I could say that this game was emo
But I though nah, forget it, let's go make that sequel!

I pulled up to the new game no worse for wear
And I yelled to the last one "Yo holmes, smell you later!"
And I thought everything looked a bit much like Spira
As I went to my throne as the new Prince of Persia.

Mmm, it was quite good. Will Smith would be proud.
There's no way in hell I'm buying Prince of Persia. I never liked it, so I just stuck to my Crash Bandicoot and God of War for platforming and mindless button mashing.

I pre-ordered it. I was talking to someone who went to the Montreal Games Summit (I'm in college in Vermont), and he said it plays beautifully. Then I punched him because he was rubbing the fact that he got to play it before me in my face.

It's anything but original. It looks like the Prince took a little vacation in the Final Fantasy universe. The clothes, the design, the environments, all seen before.
