Okay, now this might come off as a tad bit judgmental right off the bat, however at this point in time I would officially like to rescind my initial excitement in regards to The Old Republic.

You see, if there was ONE key factor which lead to WoW's success which I noticed, it was the LOOK of the game. It was a universal tone, texture, detail, shade, etc...that lead to one of many "universal" feels of the game for all age groups. Hence the look of WoW combined with somewhat mature elements. It's almost like an uncensored 80's cartoon on a Saturday morning sometimes...

Anyway, here is my complaint. The Old Republic is shaping up to carry that exact same look.

I want a movie like feel, I want a SERIOUS tone to the Star Wars universe. This look, which carries some borderline tendencies towards 3D anime here and there, does not suite me. I can already feel the hype dying due to no individualism within the games feel.

Oh well, maybe I will give WAR a shot.

I'm assuming we're looking at a screenshot of the new one?

EDIT: Assuming it is, it's an MMO. Just like WoW. It actually looks pretty awesome thus far; I would love to see the finished product.

Wait, are you saying it looks like WoW? Or that's it has a too cartoony feel? If it's the latter, I disagree.

It still looks a lot better than WoW but of course pre-release screen shots always are. I hope they don't end up having to use crummy graphics later because their fancy stuff is unplayable on most machines.

I'm also not surprised to see a cartoony feel look at the current cash cow with the Clone Wars stuff.

It looks okay, the only problem is that it's not KOTOR 3. :( I want to find out what happened to those characters. I want to finish that story.

It looks like, well, KoToR. Pretty much what I expected from them.

Quit complaining and just go play real Pre-Saga D20. The KOTOR games suck. They just feel like those annoying game sessions where the DM wants to show off his cool new sith lords and sith legends and doesn't give a damn about the players. Any MMO will just kill that, especially one that is just the SW D20 equivalent of Neverwinter nights.

You mean it looks a lot like the old KOTOR games? They weren't exactly on the realistic side of the scale. They stylized a lot of things, least of which being colors.

The game doesn't look cartoony to me. RedAlert 3 was cartoony, The Old Republic just has your average MMORPG graphics.

I think it's annoying the Jedi all look like sticks. One of my happiest moments in the KOTOR saga came from when I realized that as my strength continuously rose, so did the size and build of my character's muscles. It was awesome to see, and lent the game more realism.
And in comparison, I'd agree that KOTOR does look cartoony. I just hope it doesn't lose the series incredibly dark story telling. Even my old high school english teacher agreed- the way it was presented and told was above par in any media.

I dunno bro, I've never been a KOTOR fan, but judging by that screen shot, I might have to give a go. It looked pretty cool to me. Again, it's a total outside prospective, but it looked interesting to me.

Dear person. What the hell are you talking about? Are you confusing KOTOR with Fable? The only appearance changes you get is along the alignment shifter.

Maybe it was just really subtle and I missed it, but my hardkore dual wielding rage machine was as muscular at the start of the game as he was on the Leviathan. Though admittedly, I never took him further so maybe the muscles only start building when you enter the awesome transcendent levels of strength.

As for the story telling, whole heartedly agree. The original is a classic story of seduction and the path to hell being paved with good intentions and what not, and while the second has a very abrupt ending it's still a very well told story of moral ambiguity and survival requiring diversification and a lack of reliance on specific things. I'd compare it to Dune, though while it's deeper than the usual gaming fare it's hardly as deep or as intricate or well written as Dune.

Those screenshots actually look good. What the hell do you mean, "looks like WOW". What do you expect, photo realism?

If anything, it looks like LOTRO. WoW has a certain... impressionistic take on reality- everything is distended, distorted. This is just inked and solidly colored.

WoW is Cartoony? I guess. If your going by that, this is..uhh..

Graphic Novely. Seriously, looks like a Comicbook. A good one. Not that shit kids read today.

Nah, he's right. This one doesn't show it so well though.

Look at the size of the saber! They are going unfortunately for the 'arty' look.

Lightsabers don't concern me as much as those suits. Still it seems everyone on their page is totally mocking their art direction, and Bioware has a history of F**KING listening when the fans speak. The games probably a year or two out, so it could change drastically before release.

Oh god, i'm exhbiting battered housewife syndrome. "No really, Star Wars only hurts me because it loves me. Anyway it'll never happen again. This time will be different. THIS TIME WILL BE DIFFERENT!"

No, I am not confusing it with Fable. Fable was way more obvious about it anyway. My strategy was to get everything else right where I could live with it and then raise the strength continuously. It was really subtle, both for both games he would become slightly more muscle as it progressed. Or maybe it was just levels, but in both my character started out fairly built but his body structure was linear. By the end his shoulders were noticeably built farther away from his body. it was awesome to see. I haven't tried it on women yet, but I doubt it would be as noticeable.

Wait, are we talking about the first Dune or the rest of the series? The first Dune was a masterpiece, but the rest was easily worse than both KOTORs.

You must be shitting me. It looks just like the first two KOTOR games, except with more colored reflections and modern eye-candy. This doesn't look a thing like WOW, and doesn't look any more cartoony than the other KOTORs. Even that supposedly "better example" that the other guy posted just looks like KOTOR with better graphics.

To be fair, I'm not even seeing the better graphics part.

It does bode well for system requirements, though.

Well, I disagree with you on the later Dunes being trashy. I feel God Emperor really harped well on the need for diversification for survival. I'd even allow Heretics, though Heretics and Chapterhouse did really feel to be stretching the series to their breaking point. But the series ends with Frank, his money grubbing bastard of a son knows where he can stick his little attempts to cash in on his father's masterpiece.

Admittedly, I may only be allowing in God Emperor and Chapterhouse because I love the Bene Tleilax and I especially loved the scene at the very end involving the Face Dancers serving no masters. Touching, genuine, and I felt very meaningful and an important lesson.

That and it is really funny to read the reoccurring adventures of

As for the story in particular, I'd say the original Dune is what I'm referring to here. The later ones got more heavy into politics than the original. The original was very much so pure metaphor. Liquid metaphor.

As for the character thing, I've never heard any mention of it nor ever noticed it, but when I eventually sit down to do my run through KOTOR again with my STAB STAB THINGS DIE FUNNY character I'll keep my eyes out for it.

Alright, So I'll admit I enjoyed Duncan Idaho's characterization throughout the series, and I noticed the political shift throughout the series. But I just think it became weaker the further it sank into politics.
That, and the Bene ... all I remember is that I remember is that I wound up calling them Bene bitches by the end. Anyway, I really hated how we eventually wound up taking their sides. This is more due to the fact that I just hate manipulative old crones, though.

okay. That will be cool.
