My computer (Laptop) is busted, but all I really do on it is audio production (It's my job), not even games really (Except Baldur's Gate...I love that game). Although if it was working, I was thinking about slipping back into using AGS again. Sweet, sweet creativity. |

I do quite a large amount of multi tasking too, then again, i'm pretty certain if i actually looked at CPU usage it wouldn't be doing jack all. I've always wanted to get into 3D modelling/rendering though. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1374 Joined: 16 Jul 2008 | I'm a musician, thus I use a lot of my PC for programs such as Ableton Live. I am someone involved in film in my area. One of my college lecturers called me both a conceptual genius and insane. I vote that's hyperbole. Either or, here is the work I have up. I don't know how to directly link the high quality versions so you'll have to click that button. Pendulum - Blood Sugar - I fancied trying a concept. This netted me £10k which I then spent on a work computer. Youtube knocked the sync out a bit but you'll get the idea. Really needs to be viewed in high quality mode. The Lost (Charity) TV Advert and Viral Advert - We had to do a TV and Viral (Web) advert for a bunch of companies. Well, one company taken from a list. These are my offerings for a fictional missing persons charity. Falling. - Ironically my first foray into media, particularly editing, is the one piece of work I am really proud of. Its more of a montage than anything, but its very very effective. Took me about a week to concept. "Balance" - Youtube screwed up the aspect ratio of this (didn't like 16:9 at the time of uploading). Again a college project, we had to create a single camera piece (i.e. a piece using only one camera for all shots, multiple camera angles meant multiple run-throughs of the scene). I decided to see if a short story could be told without any real vocal input. Despite the fact that the voice needs to be re-recorded due to noise on the tape, and that the acting is quite bad (I used people from my media group, and myself!) when it came to showtime, they wanted to see it twice =/ No I didn't make any of the music for it. I'm still not sure that the ending music suits. Then again I saw the entire project as an "editing exercise". Falling and the Pendulum video are the two bits of work I don't cringe at. Currently working on a new concept. My music will be up once I get the Crazy Gamer website running. |
PROBATION Posts: 3323 Joined: 23 Oct 2007 | I do actually use my computer for other things apart from gaming and internetting. OpenOffice, GIMP and other basic utility programs feature highly up on my list of computer uses, but they hardly take much power. I've done some limited C++ programming, and I intend to learn how to use Allegro to program games, but that hardly uses up much power either. Aside from the background Folding@Home applications, the program that I've used which uses the most of my computer's potential is Autodesk Inventor, a 3D CAD program used for professional mechanical design, but I have only used it for messing about with. In line with the CAD thing, though, I desperately want to learn how to use a program called BRL-CAD, formerly used by the U.S. military, now open-source and the sort of program that used to give nightmares to Cray-2 supercomputers. Problem is, it's a CAD program of the old-school type, where you type in commands instead of using a mouse, and I suppose it'll give me as many nightmares as it used to give the old Crays. At the moment, I use very little of my computer's potential, but I suppose that programming and that outrageously powerful CAD program should sort that out, if I decide to learn how to use them properly. Then I stopped. School was getting in a way and obviously I couldn't drop it. Long story short I a lot of stuff on PS and many of it was lost because my PC broke and needed to be formated :( I've pondered if I should get back in the 'scene' since I've been pretty nostalgic about it lately. Some examples:
Nothing special I know, although in retrospective I never said they were. User was banned for: FUN FORUM GAME THX FO PLAYIN :3. (Permanent) |

Thanks! I also do bits and pieces to do with Photoshop, mostly stuff for websites so its not all that impressive really. But it's coming along nicely, years ago i could barely work out how to copy stuff and blank out areas. |

Seriously though, what do you use your computer's power for other than gaming? Or don't you?
Everyone knows I do digital audio production so I won't expound on that. Do any of you go crazy with Photoshop, 3DSMAX, or other content creation programs? Show off your hard work! :)
