Do kids belong in gaming? Or should there be more restrictions?

I personally think that, instead of not allowing kids or teenagers to play games (multiplayer especially), there should simply be easier ways to mute players who are annoying.

I hate the immature. They are annoying and deserve to have their accounts taken away. All they accomplish is to ruin my gaming experience.

Kids belong in gaming, so long as they have adequate adult supervision. If you don't like their voices on chat, mute 'em; if you're playing the Haloz (as the OP's icon suggests to me) it's dead easy to do already.

Banning kids from gaming is possibly the worst idea I've ever heard. Sure it might make the online scene fun for a few years but after a while it would just cause the industry to collapse.

So many adults account will be banned if such a rule would be implemented. But hey, I certainly wouldn't mind it at all.

This. Not to mention, most of us, 'Adults', started gaming a while ago, even before we were considered 'Adults' by society. So, I really don't see why a kid should not be allowed to play games like Halo, WoW, or even, L4D.

But it's always better if the parents themselves are gamers.

Touchy issue. Adequate adult supervision is right. I'm 15, and I've been playing games like Halo and Gears of War for a while, because I enjoy them. It depends on the maturity of the player. I've had Live for a year, and I've seen children that sound about six years old that spout slurs and cusses that they probably don't even know the meaning of. This is where I draw the line. If you play a game that your parents bought you, fine, its their fault if curb stomps leave you scarred for life. However, if you act like a dick because you heard Marcus Fenix say it, drop the controller and go back to Nintendogs. My point is that Kids should be able to play a game like GTA if their parents say its fine. Its the parents job to make sure the parents aren't doing things they shouldn't, and that is the problem. Kids belong in gaming, mostly in their own realm of all the Kid-Friendly (yet still fun) Nintendo Games; my gripe is that they aren't usually fun to play with. I don't judge on age because I know that I was that young once. Of course, I have the same problem with older people too. You aren't much better than them because you're "old enough." A jerk is a jerk, no matter what. Whatever happened to actually reading terms & rules. I can take 10 year olds on COD4, as long as they just act civilized.

Only if they can be quiet and curteous when asked, should they be able to stay.

The problem is there's no test for maturity. There are incredibly nice, polite, intelligent twelve year olds out there. There are also 'adults' twice their age with half their... reasoning capacity? I don't want to say brains, but I can't think of a word... :X intellect?

If I'm on the internet, my standards of conduct are already exceptionally low. If somebody acts really immature and douchebaggish in a way that is entertaining to me, then I laugh with them.

Kids online have a horrible reputation of painfully squeaky voices and bad behavior, such as team killing. This leads to many automatically assaulting anyone that sounds like they are under the age of 15. The problem is that many kids actually do this sort of stuff, but other kids, like me, are decent, mature gamers, and they deserve a chance before the canon is fired.

Immature kids are far less annoying than the thirty-year-old wannabe lieutenants who play every round of Counter Strike like it's Waterloo.

That said, I would ban anyone with an unbroken voice from online play.

Not necessarily, if those lieutenant wannabe's are on your team and they don't talk much it could be good for your team.

I don't think that they should be banned. I do believe every game should come with an option to easily mute people.

If a kid has valid approval from his/her parents, (s)he can play any game his parents let him/her.

When I say valid, I mean that the parents know whether or not the aforementioned child can handle the game.

As for online, if you don't like them, just mute them. I've had to mute as many immature teenagers as many immature kids. (From the sound of their voice, atleast)

There should also be easier ways to kick out annoying people online, regardless of age. Muting them is too often not enough.

Let me tell you, most asshole you meet online are over 16...

They are fine if they don't bother me and I hate it when people get started with them it just makes it worse. I say if you start to hear them just mute them immediatly instead of yelling at them.

Ban them all from the internet and games.

But I have ran into a few Americans..(atleast 60% of them) that have been well utter fucking tards.

Although there are a lot of annoying kids online, I'm sure that there is a lot of mature kid gamers as well.

There should be some sort of maturity test kids have to take in order to play online games.

If kids didn't game adults would not have eventually started gaming and we would not be where we are today.

Online games? YES RESTRICT THEM!

We have enough grown up people throwing their lives away on WoW and such, kids need to go to school >.>;
