I have more fun with Nazi Zombies in CoD5 then I do with L4D. They're different games and I feel that the "Defense" aspect of CoD5's zombies is more up my alley. As for ideas for a sequel...Try different ideas other then "run from point A to point B" I'm sure its pretty easy to do something like that with L4D right now in new content, but as it is...I don't really think I'll be too interested in a sequel. |

That too. |

This. Real boss fights would be epic. |

Muckraker Posts: 274 Joined: 8 Jun 2008 | Or they could just keep improving on L4D, instead of making new one. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 4296 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | Less is more - the 20 chapters in L4D have enough variety (I mean, did you really expect to go through a sewer in No Mercy?) and these weapons are pretty balanced that the only good thing to add would be a new mounted weapon and a proper melee weapon (trench spike, spade, crowbar, w/e) |
Press Junketeer Posts: 440 Joined: 10 Mar 2008 | I definitely will see a lot of really cool mod coming out for this game in the range of mods, and possibly the HL2 modding community will take this unique style of multiplayer and add even a more unique twist. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3447 Joined: 8 May 2008 | More scalable graphics. I have to run it in 640x480 to get it playable(while understandable I thought it was using the same engine as the Half-Life series which runs great) (although by the time left 5 dead/Left 4 Dead Modern Warfare:IXI comes out I will finally join the rest of the people on mars with their HAL 2.0 supercomputers). |

i dont know if you've played it but it isnt just a bunch of standard zombies, you have 4 special zombies especially the one you decribed basides being conjoined and with fangs. |
Copy Clerk Posts: 59 Joined: 6 Nov 2007 | the game was made to have an easy pick up and play value so if they go too advanced with anything like having bosses and having more guns(there's only 6 different guns in the game) |

Just want to point out (what I think are) their reasons for not doing those things. AI using grenades sounds simple but molotoving in front of the player and making them wait would be common, and it would be difficult to make sure they throw them right without making it too easy for the player too as the AI knows where they are coming from and how many. More levels are being made, at least by the modding community and there's not too many other weapons that are either needed or would fit while keeping the game as simplistic as it is. You're right that the game could use tweaks and improvements though, maybe make it feel more realistic. Though that would change the game significantly. Even though there are 20 levels, and 10 in versus mode, it does feel a little unfinished. |

I agree, I've always found the defense, where you have to build your fort and thne protect for a certain amount of time, I just wish more people would put it in single player campaigning. That and I wish they had guns too. As for ideas, it's stupid and cliche, and I'm going to hate myself in the morning for saying this, but why not let them create your own character. Also more 'nazi zombie' types of defenses would be nice. That and more weapons, but that's all I can think of. |

Then if you want to make a sequel just wait until the unreal 4 engine comes out or something...(or super source or whatever) User was banned for: A boss encounter one may never forget.... It's upgraded source. How old is your comp.? I'd imagine L4D is more CPU intensive than most games since there's all that shit on screen at once. |
Beat Writer Posts: 219 Joined: 21 Feb 2008 | Right 4 Dead... But yeah, AI need to use grenades, surely they can come up with some proper scripting for it. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1175 Joined: 17 Jun 2008 | I think the game is good as it is, to be honest. However, if I'd made it myself, the changes I would have made are as follows. A rooster of 16 survivor characters, never all in play at the same time though, but if someone dies and you find survivors in a closet, it should be new ones. A lot more different maps, with different goals, and preparation maps. Supply runs, defences, etc. The different maps would also have different amounts of survivors, from 2 to 8. Sometimes they'd start in different locations, 2 of them starts in the church and 2 of them in the mall, or something like that. I'd change the weapons completely. Remove the automatic weapons, the auto shotgun and remove the scope from the rifle. Regular shotgun, hunting rifle and pistols should be enough. I'd then add melee weapons, like axes, shovels, metal bars, etc. I'd also make a nice little script to randomize your weapon model. Pick up a meelee weapon and you get a random one of the aforementioned. Find a pistol and it's a random model, with a few variations, but all the same stats. I'd also lower the hit points of the survivors by a lot. Like a huge lot. I'd change the meelee, so it wasn't so overpowered, you should be able to keep one zombie at bay, at a time, with a ranged weapon, meelee weapons would do a lot more damage though (but still wouldn't keep several zombies stunned), but in return add a viable stealth element, for both zombies and survivors, instead of having hordes all of the time just because you're standing still, make it something to fear. Right now the hordes are no threat, just a reminder to get going. You should try to avoid them, but if one comes, you'd better be prepared to run. I'd also add a few more special zombie types, screamers for example, that looks like regular ones but if shot starts screaming like crazy, calling in a lot more zombies to their location. I'd also change the hunters into looking like normal zombies, but with bigger claws, and make them able to climb on a lot more surfaces and hang onto overhangs, or ledges, and jump from there. I think those changes would make for a more desperate and thinking situation. You'd be more easily scared, at the moment the game can't frighten me, lots and lots of minor annoyances and no real threats unless a tank or a witch comes along. It's just not scary. Suspense is what's needed, a stealthy game is to me always more scary than any other, just because you have to stay hidden. Thief and Penumbra has given me more frights than any other games, just because you really have to watch out, and keep down. The few aestathical changes wouldn't be too hard to make, either, and I think they'd really add a lot to the immersion, and thus, the scary parts. Edit: Oh, and how could I forget. I'd make a celebrity appearance special, with Gordon Freeman, either as his usual completely mute self and have everyone pissed off at him after they heal or help him and he just walks away, or have him use sign language to say "witch!" or "boomer!". And I'd have Coltrane in it too. He'd be pretty useless and good at attracting zombies, but yeah baby, he'd kick some ass! Adding infected dogs would be pretty cool too, in some levels. As a special encounter perhaps. Instead of a tank, there's a pack of dogs. |

Except for the varied scenarios & gun models and the mute Freeman I respectfully disagree. One of the pleasures of it for me is the mobs of zombies stamping on your face. Because its easy to push a couple back it feels all the more terrifying when they claw your face of enmass. I think the guns work really well because you think you're a badass as soon as you've picked up the auto-shottie. Never lasts though! The game isn't played properly outside of Expert. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1175 Joined: 17 Jun 2008 | Hmm... Yeah. I must admit that you're right. When I got the auto shotgun and plowed through a huge mass of zombies just running forward it was exhilarating. So yeah, I guess I'd keep that, and the others too, I suppose. I just wouldn't allow them to be used on most maps, on some maps where it makes sense, sure, but not all maps. I'd also add guns jamming and misfiring. I'd add a sprint system, and give characters stamina, that is affected by regular running as well. And add a map that takes place in a military base, which would play most similar to the game today, what with the weapons and ammunitions, it'd also be one of the 8 player maps, but zombies on that map would often be infected soldiers, wearing kevlar or ceramic plates. I'd also, for all maps, increase natural hazards a lot. Pointy thingies on destroyed buildings you can fall into, fires, rain, freezing weather (that of course would affect the zombies as well, but fighting zombies in a blizzard trying to reach shelter would be pretty neat). |

I'm talking about big boss fights, having more than just a 'regular guy' zombie is almost given for any zombie game. But I'm envisioning a Resident Evil style boss dropping in to mix things up every once and a while. Not that the witch and tank aren't badass, but I'm gonna need a little bit more. |
Beat Writer Posts: 191 Joined: 2 May 2008 | As another idea: Pull the "Swarm" Mode from Gears of War, and call it "Outbreak." Basically, you are at the defense position waiting for the copter. You have ammo and some health packs nearby and a few chokepoints. As an idea, you have to fight thru waves of zombies INCLUDING the special zombies. OR, as another idea, is that you take the "Outbreak mode" and instead of just 4 players, make it 8. Now try communicating with 8 people who are all taking damage, shooting and bashing zombies. Brings a true meaning of "Survival of the fittest." |

More scaleable graphics?? Source is very scalable as it is, not the games fault your running the game on a Amiga 500. User was banned for: Poll: Round 4 - North: (1) Turbine vs (2) Valve. (Permanent) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2372 Joined: 29 Oct 2008 | lol @ left 5 Dead. I think it could do with more zombies to begin with. As in, there needs to be more skins for a normal infected. It's not too bad but I'd expect a game ABOUT zombies to have more. I also think there should be 4 special infected (excluding the tank) so each infected player is playing something different. It would be cool to have a few more playable characters, like 4 different ones for each film or something. Um... what else. Oh they definitely need to have a mode the same as vs but where the players don't swap. I guess other than that, they could come up with some more bad-ass map designs. |

I think most will agree that Left 4 Dead is a fantastic game, and even though it's fun, it's easy to see what should definitely be included in the sequel or DC. Personally I would like to see characters turn instead of die (sometimes), the AI to use grenades, and more variety of levels and weapons.
*Note: Also acceptable for this forum...ideas for the sequels title. Left 5 Dead? I think not...
