Yup, not sure on the model number. 40in 720p LCD, 2 HDMI ports, 1 optical audio, black trim, red light on the power button in the middle, other buttons on the right side, great tv, glad I bought it! |

I think the family got the next one up, ours is the 800$ or so one with 2 HDMI ports an assload of other inputs and such, black trim, red light on the power button. Can go up to 1080p. So I guessing ours is the one right above yours. Did I mention 1080p looks s'E'xcellent? |

The Xbox360 and PS3 are both struggling to even output at native 720p. If you get a 1080p virtually all your games will be upscaled, which does not look nearly as nice as running the game in its native resolution. Since the 360 in most cases is able to at least match 720p, you're probably better off saving the money you would've otherwise poured into a full HD panel. Your games will look better on 720p, and your eyes will thank you for it. For small screen sizes (20"-27"), if you're sitting over a few feet away from the screen you will be hard pressed to notice the added visual detail anyhow. LCDs will start dropping prices drastically once emerging technologies (e.g. OLED) start hitting the mainstream. That will be in a few years time, perhaps by the time the next generation of consoles arrive. That will also be when consoles are in all likelihood truly capable of handling today's most demanding games in 1080p @ 60fps. I think that is the time when you should start considering purchasing a full HD set. They will be cheap as chips by then. |

I think I've got your family of Samsung LCDs, but mine is a 26". It's great, but I find that, occasionally, TV lags for me. Still, it can handle my Xbox 360 at 1080i (pre-HDMI model), and otherwise runs great. Another vote for a Samsung. |

What is your speaker situation? Will you be using the speakers on the TV itself or do you have separate sound system set up? If you are only looking for something to display all the fancy bloom from your 360 games in HDTV might I suggest an LCD computer monitor? They are loads cheaper than the LCD Televisions and you have a much bigger variety of sets to choose from. You can buy yourself the cable from monoprice.com for a super low price (probably under $10). Then take your pick from here [Edit] Just realized that they are all HDMI monitors, but you can still get the cable super cheap from monoprice.com. [Edit for additional opinion] Don't always go for the biggest size possible television. What size you get is determined by how far away you will sit from the TV. If it is in your standard living room then you probably will want something above 30". But if you want it in your room then 22" - 28" should work out great for you. One thing you could consider if you're mainly interested in this for the Xbox would be to get a PC monitor instead. Since it won't include a tuner, it would be a lot cheaper than a full television. For example, a 24" Dell 1920x1080 display that connects via HDMI is only $350 USD. If you don't have an Xbox with HDMI, you could get the Xbox VGA cable and connect using that instead. That said, I have a 32" Samsung LCD TV running at 720p and the Xbox 360 and PS3 both run beautifully on it, as does digital cable. Since you're trying to work under a budget, sticking with 720p is a good way to save some cash without any major downsides. |

At one LAN I attended one attendee, a professional video editor, brought a 32" Samsung on a stand... it worked with his Xbox and as a second monitor for his laptop, and he uses it at booths when attending trade shows. It was also small and light enough to fit in the back of his compact car. I think there's a reason Microsoft signed Samsung up for all those 360 demo booths. -- Steve |

Plasmas used to be worse for gaming, but these days the refresh rates and everything are just fine, and there's no chance of burn-in. Most games also have some sort of delay calibration where perfect timing is absolutely critical. The improved clarity and colour depth/definition easily makes a good plasma win out, for me... of course, key word here is "good", and plasmas are of course more expensive. But then, there's nothing stopping you from saving up for another few weeks to get that TV. |

Note also that plasmas wash out more when the room is bright; you almost have to have good curtains if you want to watch a plasma in its full glory during daylight hours. I'd argue that the difference isn't big enough to justify the extra cost for gaming. Maybe if you're a die-hard videophile it'd make sense as a home theatre, but not for most gaming anyway. -- Steve |
I have an Xbox360, which is the main reason I'm upgrading to HD. I defiantly want it to be LCD but I've looked into it a bit and found out that most Xbox games are made in 720p anyways, so stepping it up to 1080p/i isn't really necessary. Size wise, somewhere in the mid to high 20" would be great. Please keep in mind that I'm limited to about 600$ Canadian.
So yeah,any suggestions any of you guys might have would be greatly appreciated.
