A 15 second long teaser trailer has recently surfaced about the next Metal Gear game. Now there is no indication of the title or even the platform the game will appear on, yet many believe the it will be for the Xbox 360. When I watched the trailer I thought: "Oh, that's kinda cool, I guess," but apparently the mere thought of a Metal Gear game on the 360 is enough to make people spread verbal bile all over the Internet.

So what's the big deal? What's so bad about a Metal Gear game on the 360? Why Metal Gear specifically? What about Final Fantasy, or Devil May Cry? My only guess it that these loudmouth cretins are trying pathetically to justify a $500 console over a $300 one.

Here's the URL to the trailer if you are interested:

Well there are (bear with me) people who like one system vastly more than the others and goes onto the internets spreading this. They are called fanboys/fangirls. Now the Metal Gear Solid 4 is a successful PS3 exculsive and well you can see how a fanboy would react to it becoming multi-platform (as you will soon see).

It's called making money.

More people have 360s, it's a good game...BOOM! MONEY!

Think if Mario came out on the 360. Fanboys/girls would be pissed, but Nintendo would make a lot of money. Maybe.

I honestly don't care, I found the game to be rather mediocre when I played it on a friend's console. But to answer your question, I agree, PS3 owners have been holding out for good exclusives, looking at their console as a long term investment, but with FFXIII turning, LittleBigPlanet and MGS4 are the only (allegedly) good exclusives they have

It'll take away the PS3's only truly great exclusive. And then the people who paid $500 dollars for the the PS3 just for Metal Gear are going to get pissed cause they could have just got a 360, with a lot of better games.

Seriously isn't spreading out a game to every platform a good thing?

It generates more income for the producers (CAPITAL! ...never mind Oblivion reference), it makes more people happy for playing the game on the platform they desire and it removes one point of argument from the fanboy 'the best console is X' arguments list.

And I wouldn't call it 'MS corruption' like some poor imp said, at best it'd be Kojimas selling out.

I thought that image was about the new metal gear acid game on the iphone, why do people think it means its coming to the 360? more on topic, people get pissed off because mgs has been a long time sony excluive, so its kind of shocking to the fanboys to see it branching out.

If there selling out, its fine by me, I wouldn't mind playing a MG game on my 360. Ive always loved them, but one game wasn't a good enough reason for me to get a PS3.

For a while there, there was talk about MSG4 coming out on the 360. All I can think is that the rumours were a lie or that Sony decided to throw enough money at the game until the they went away.

One theory I've heard is that the 2 lines are 180 + 180 and when you add them together you get 360 (thus the ring) and then the ring symbol also is the same one for the 360 power (though several other things like PCs/laptops have the same power symbol), and green generally represents xbox.

There is more but I honestly can't be to arsed to go check.

It's for two reasons.

360 fanboy's don't particularly care for Metal Gear, they just want some sort of proof that the PS3 is inferior and will die, because that's what Fanboys are like they WANT hardworking people to lose their jobs.

PS3 Fanboys (And regular fans can fit in this themselves) Get pissed because said 360 fans sound like whiny immature little bitches.

a lot of 360 whingers I have heard have said something along the lines of 'Oh but a PS3 is to expensive' 'I don't want to shell out money for the console but I want the game' and other stuff.

Look their are 360 games I want, okay two I want Star Ocean 4 and Tales of Vesperia, the Latter probably going to follow the Tales Of Trend of being released as a Multi-Platform later. but the thing is I personally don't own a 360, but I'm not going to bitch for those games.

Either Pay the money and get what you want or shut up in my opinion, the incessant bitching can be quite annoying as you can guess.

Also XIII is only turning in the west, a move that has the actual employee's pissed off. and Versus is still an exclusive.

No console is bad, thats the simple truth of the matter, yet 90% of the community is pure Concentrated FAN HATERS!

And since EVERYONE knows how much I love TVtropes.org

Fanhaters.:

To some people, there is only one thing worse than anything they consider So Bad Its Horrible; people actually liking it.

In a nutshell, a Fan Hater is Sub Trope of a Fiction Hater, who hates not only the work, but also the fans of that work.

The thing is that to these people, art is Serious Business, and they treat their so-called "enjoyment" of art the way some jerks take to competitive gaming. If you like anything not up to their standards, they will either mock you, mock that thing in front of your face, or just go on a diatribe about why you shouldn't like that thing. A common term that Fan Haters are fond of using, is "unwashed masses".

These people are comparable to Moral Guardians, only it's their own subjective tastes they are trying to guard.

In other words, you've found a living example of why Complaining About Shows You Dont Like is discouraged here, because it can lead to complaining about fans of shows you don't like.

As a work becomes more popular, the probability of such a group appearing approaches one. Today's media landscape seems to encourage this somewhat, because in a world where executives and producers seem to be of the mindset that Popularity Equals Quality, and because Ratings are so important in determining what keeps getting made and what gets cancelled, it's easy for fans of one thing that might be on the verge of getting canned to resent the people who are making another work so popular (and thus keeping it on the air), as they wrongly blame those fans for their own favorite work's misfortune. It's important to remember that if the situations were reversed, those fans would likely feel the exact same way, and that people have the right to enjoy whatever work of fictional media makes them happy.

Of course actually being familiar with the works people aren't supposed to like is entirely optional.

Sigh...Not to be all puppy dogs and rainbows, but maybe we can look at this (if it is actually true) as an opportunity for fans of the game to have more people to talk with about how much they like MGS4.

Seriously, you're a PS3 fan? Great. XBox? Cool. Wii? Right on. Let's all just grow up please.

the only people who get upset about this are fanboys, and their opinions don't count. they screamed just as loud when FFXIII and tekken 6 were announced to go to the 360 as well....

when big name games that were previously exclusive go multi-platform, all gamers win...

I guess I'll be the one to point this out...

Metal Gear has already been tried on the X-Box console. MGS2, anyone? It was an epic failure. Kojima Productions, unlike many dev teams, tends to learn form past mistakes. It is unlikely that they will try an x-box release of Metal Gear again.

*edit* right. Yog beat me to it by about 2 seconds. Well done and spot on. (though it was, in fact MGS2: Sons of Liberty and not MGS3: Snake Eater which was ported.

It's just a ideological thing.

You see, gamers tend to defend one console in a display of tribalism that is quite sad. When a game that belong exclusively to one tribe begins to appear in another, the natives flip their shit out.

Gamers without a warped sense of community belonging to their console will see this as a good thing. The more platforms a game is on, the more potential for profit which will lead to bigger budgets in the future and better production quality on the next game.

Going from PS2 to Xbox is pretty much the opposite of going from PS3 to 360.

Bitter about what? I don't get... 2 games? that's right 2, and I don't whine excessively about getting them, you have a 360, that's cool, I have a Wii and a PS3.

I'm not a bitter anything, I'm just an incredibly large dickhead thank you very much. At least I know I'm a giant dick.

Y'know, I think I'm going to second that. The consoles are a secondary thing. If MGS4 had come out on the 360 instead of the PS3, I'd own a 360. If you're going to take the best series in the world and try to put it on the X-Box console, it had better darned well be done right.

I think you are all forgetting that while most electronics do in fact have the power-up icon, none of them are really associated with it the way the 360 is to it's power up lights. (Largely thanks to the RRoD).

I'll add a few more cents to the pool of thoughts here.

I'd like to address the question in the title "What's the big deal?"
The big deal is that this is METAL GEAR we're talking about. A game which has been alive longer than me and which has been incredibly successful. Metal Gear was a game which changed the way that people looked at stealth in games, in fact, it can be called the first successful stealth game if we dismiss the original Wolfenstein which I suspect we can. That, my friend, is the big deal. This is real gaming history in the works.
