I'm cool with this, the only minor thing I would point out is that I do in fact have an assortment of throwing knives and shurikens. But if it's just one ranged attack each, then I support the Gerald idea.
You only have one ranged attack... Limits I am afraid. Your special attack is a horde of crabs and Gerald allows you more reach to get items from further away.

Hey, I love my holly. I've even started a trend with it.
You should add me in as a bloke who says they'll help you, start to, then get distracted by something else and never returns until half an hour or so later, only to say that they got distracted and lost their train of thought and had to spend a bit picking it up again. Because I do that a lot.
I'd be a great support character. I could also poorly sing indie songs into the player's headset as a part of my character/soundtrack.
I'm not going to go begging to be in the game, but if there is ever a part where you call in some sort of fire support, it'd better be me on a ship providing that fire.

Rather then putting people in the game you can make all the set people NPCish and have text and the main character be yourself. add a enter your own name feature and choose your avatar or upload it.

I am currently Thinking a central hub (www.escapistmagazine.com) with rooms extending into each of the different forums. Including the secret one.
Gotta have at least one Flame Wars level, with intense fire coming from all sides!
(Maybe also have missions where you eliminate the trolls but shooting too many people who provide intelligent and you lose, I'm not sure how advanced you are trying to make this)
