I have no idea why you're looking at that when you could be looking at this which is what he meant.

EDIT: Oh and when those Resistance 60-player matches become commonplace and actually work more than 50% of the time (every time), let me know.
Letting you know. The lobbies are still filled with them, and they continue to be bug free. On the flipside, hows the Gears 2 Multiplayer? Still flawless out of the package, I assume?
Gamer137: I don't think a new interface is worth buying a console for.
Not an interface.
Then what you call it? I don't have a PS3, but from what I have seen, it looks like an OS or something for the PS3.
No, its a seperate program - the interface is still the XMB, which despite Microsoft claiming is stupid, is another thing that just happened to be copied in the NXE.
y8c616: playstation network and home is better thanxbox live and theyre shitty wii rippoff avatars; so mabye home isnt wirht buying a ps3 for alone, but as a whole, a ps3 out of the box is cheaper and more functional than even the best 360;
Live is way better than PSN, and no PS3 is cheaper than a 360, even if it RRODs, stop being a stupid fanboy. I can talk, I own both, so shut up.
Again the rigmoral of teaching the fanboys.
Arcade: 200$ PS3 40g: 400$
To get the arcade up to snuff with the 40g ps3.
Blu-ray player:100$ Wifi adapter: 50$ Wireless controller: 50$ Live: 60$ a year Hard drive: 80$
Upgraded Arcade+Year of live: 540$ PS3 40g: 400$
Even if I don't include the blu-ray drive, the ps3 is still cheaper.
It's definitely not worth buying a console for. Although it's still in Beta, I don't really see any purpose for it, for myself. I'm not much into chat rooms and messengers, though. It looks like something the Myspace and Facebook crowd would get into.
First Things First, to the OP: Home, is not a GAME. To everyone else. HOME is NOT A GAME.
Home is NOT second life. Second Life is an MMO, it is in many ways, A GAME, its a game where people can whore themselves off and make money off of it. (litterally)
Home, doesn't work that way, Its closer to the SIMS then it is Second Life, Escept not as veristile, and you arne't god...
Ok, if I take the most expensive Xbox 360, the elite, AND a years subscription to Xbox live, it's still cheaper then the CHEAPEST PS3, and the only thing it's missing is Wi-fi. So no, the 360 isn't more expensive.
80GB PS3 - $399.99 1 Dual Shock 3 Wireless Controller 1 USB<->MiniUSB to charge controller Wifi Ethernet Port Blu-Ray SD/Mini SD card readers 4 USB slots HDMI output - Cable Optional Component output + cable
Xbox 360 Arcade - 199.99 Xbox Controller (wireless/wired out of the box?) 1 Year Xbox Live Gold - $49.99 DVD Player 60GB HDD - $99.99 Also includes a 3 month gold subscription, an Ethernet Cable. Wireless Network Adapter - $99.99 - purely optional, but if you don't want to mess with wires, and have a good router its not much of an issue to go with a wireless connection.
sooo $399.99 vs 199.99 +49.99 +99.99 +99.99 $448.97.
SUre you don't NEED an 60GB HDD, or a WiFi Connection but if you DO need/want one, your going to end up paying more. And you still don't get to watch HD movies on the 360 via disk. :P
As it stands, The point of this arguement is that inorder to get the 360 to have all the same features as the ps3 (It still don't have all the card readers, and I don't believe the arcade version has HDMI ports, BUT they may have changed that...)
Who cares if Live doesn't have a web browser? Especially the PS3 web browser, which can't handle busy pages and has an outdated flash player.
Can't handle busy pages? I can go to tons of websites with my ps3 browser, which is tons more then yours can. And the outdated flash player is obvious, they freaking update flash every 2 days, its kinda hard to keep up with firmware updates which don't come every week. Hell, even most MMORPGs don't update weekly...
Besides, the PS3 doesn't come with component cables, so that's an extra cost on top of that!
Smoke much crack? Listen to alot of propaganda? You also believe the ps3 gets so hot if played for more then 3 hours it'll litterally melt? Or that propaganda that once you play a game, no one else can use that disk? Yea, thats all bullshit. The Ps3 DOES come with component cables. It however, does not come with an HDMI cable. HDMI Cables require an HDTV, and seeing how when the ps3 was released, most people didn't even OWN an HDTV, they didn't see any reason to hike the cost of the ps3 even more by adding in there own custom HDMI cable...
Also, If you buy HDMI cables from BestBuy or Gamestop for $60 your an idiot. Sorry, but it must be said. I bought mine for $3. That price has gone up (Demand went up, duh!) http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1024009&p_id=2529&seq=1&format=2 And with a little searching else where you can find tons of other ones, longer/shorter, more gold, less gold... For much cheaper then you can find in the retail stores.
Btw, A few thigns should also be noted. One: If the 360 uses the same male-male HDMI cable as the ps3 does, then you to, can get a cheap free cable... you know if you didn't get one, or your dog ate it.. Two: Power wise, they are both pretty similar, they both have strengths and weaknesses. Three: 360 has been out a year longer then the ps3, so constantly saying more games, more units sold, is a 'duh' statement. OF COURSE its gunna have more games/units sold! :P Four: The Ps3, you can use any 2.5" Notebook Hard Drive in the ps3, 3rd party, 1st party, 5th party?! Any will work, assuming they are the right size, and have the right connection port. They are easy to install, and even have instructions on how to do so in the manual... 3rd party HDDs are always going to be cheaper then 1st party HDDs.. Unfortunately, 2.5" HDDs are EXPENSIVE. ;) Fifth: Did you know you can use an external HDD on the ps3? Oooh yea. :P Six: You probably can do the same on the 360, assuming you have enough USB slots to hook one up. ;) Seven: Home IS not A game.
MikeTheElf: As for the whole ps3 vs. 360 argument... -PS3 is more expensive because it has improved hardware. -In the long run, after upgrading your 360 to run like the PS3, it costs more, in addition to the monthly/yearly fee for live.
This isn't recognized enough, but you can't upgrade it to run Bluray so it's never going to meet the standard and run like a PS3 is it?
I had actually heard rumour that there would be a Bluray upgrade for 360, but of course it's only rumour.
Avida: I have, im in the beta, its just an application.
Ohmigod, did...did someone get it right? Holy crap people, someone got it right!
HOME is an application, of course, it makes sense now! It can't be a game, it's obviously an application that's meant to spend a couple minutes of your time!
Score one banana point for you mister.
Bulletinmybrain: Most, if not all of the key features are stripped and its running bare-naked around the pool.
It does feel naked and bare a bit. Hopefully they'll update and support it for a while to keep it "phresh" and "new" or something. After a while it does get boring, but it's still pretty cool to walk around and explore a bit.
I'm disapointed with my apartment though :U it's extremely small.
runtheplacered: It's definitely not worth buying a console for. Although it's still in Beta, I don't really see any purpose for it, for myself. I'm not much into chat rooms and messengers, though. It looks like something the Myspace and Facebook crowd would get into.
Why the hell does everyone keep saing "its still not worth buying a console for"? If you buy a console for one solitary reason then you're a fucking idiot.
y8c616: playstation network and home is better thanxbox live and theyre shitty wii rippoff avatars; so mabye home isnt wirht buying a ps3 for alone, but as a whole, a ps3 out of the box is cheaper and more functional than even the best 360;
I don't understand your logic at all but then again when you can't be objective over a console because of being a giant fan boy I guess there isn't anything to get.
y8c616: The Playstation Network and 'Home' is better than Xbox Live and their shitty Wii rip off avatars. Maybe 'Home' isn't worth buying a PS3 for alone, but as a whole a PS3 out of the box is cheaper, and more functional, than even the best 360.
Major editing = fixed.
I see you're new to the forum, and that's great, but the Escapist enjoys proper spelling and grammar, unless you want the fury of so many members to rain down upon you.
On topic: I completely disagree with your post. First off, a PS3 isn't cheaper out of the box. Head to any store and check the prices.
Secondly, while I appreciate (Sort of) your candor about the 'Mii' rip offs, I know plenty of people who have tried both the PSN and Xbox Live and found LIVE easy, and better to use. Does that mean Live is better? No, it means that it's a subjective thing. Some people love it, some people don't.
Finally, a (friendly) bit of advice: The MODs HATE flame-wars, so I'd recommend keeping flame-bait and troll-esque comments to a minimum.
Welcome to the Escapist!
EDIT: Shucks! D_987 beat me to it!
D_987: I hope this helps you to become a productive member of the community.
Well said!
I may be putting words in his mouth, but I'm sure that when he says it's cheaper out of the box he's talking about all that is incorporated in the PS3; blu-ray/dvd player, free online, and a 60 or 80 gig hard drive. If you put all this on any 360 it would go for about the same price if not more.
As for the thread I've noticed entirely too many people who haven't played the game. I've not had any problems, and neither has my roommates, with home. I've mentioned this in another thread, but Home was designed as something that the other systems didn't have that gave the PS3 owners an opportunity to chat and/or interact in a 3D world. For those that don't know, you can do everything outside of Home that you can inside of Home (excluding the minigames within Home). You don't have to go in to Home to chat, view trophies, file share, or anything. It's just a free bonus that will act as a minor (at least for now) pushing point for the system.

Calm down there, Tex. The OP asked if it was worth buying a console for or not. If you try reading at least the opening post, you may find that you're more aware of what's going on. Just a thought.

I was just wondering if I should go onto PS3 today just to try Home, or stay on Live and play Fallout 3?
I don't think he said "is it worth buying a PS3?". I thought he meant "should I go on my PS3 just to try HOME or should I just play Fallout 3?"
It's stupid to think that HOME is a reason to buy a PS3, and I really don't know why you guys are suggesting it.
I don't think he said "is it worth buying a PS3?". I thought he meant "should I go on my PS3 just to try HOME or should I just play Fallout 3?"
I suppose that could be the case, but then what's the reason for this thread? If you already have a PS3, it's a matter of pressing install and agreeing to their EULA. But I would completely agree that HOME would never be a reason for buying the console.
It appears to be a glorifyed IM system. If you could just use the whole of home and only see your friends it might be worth while - but it just seems a bit boring.
(only had a go for 10 mins)
Its intresting to note how quickly this topic has been derailed with people actually trying to justify expenses either side of the line. It really dosn't matter which system is cheaper -they both do the same thing...

Though I don't know the original intention of this topic, I would assume that the OP was trying to decide wether or not to get on his PS3 and play (more like interact with) HOME or play Fallout 3 and he wanted opinions on the people who've played it already.
though the obvious choice is keep playing Fallout 3, what are you stupid? HOME is basically a semi-advanced IM system, but it's a nice time waster and a good reason to try something relatively new. If you want to just hang around and talk to strangers or your friends, then HOME should be good for you.
Otherwise, play an actual game. Not an application.
Which reminds me, I should post up my first impression in the User reviews sections. Brb!
What the fuck kinda question is this? You try out home, screw around with it, and then go back to fallout. Does this deserve a thread? Asking what you should play first? Seriously?
Lul I know Reasons I made this thread: 1. Hoping to get to 10,000 posts [I don't know,Just felt like I should attempt] 2. I was curious if I could hook up my PS3 to try it or not So yeah...

Thank you for your advice. I'm starting to wish I would have stayed on Fallout 3 [damn you download time, damn you!] So yeah...thanks for the advice!

Though if you are willing to try something a little different, then just do what DeMagnifico said and just screw around with.
And yes, the load/download times can be atroicious at times. Though that's if you can ever get in the damn servers at all!

I realize it, and I've always realized it. I'm saying,is it worth the time of going through the trouble of unhooking everything and getting everything hooked up again, downloading everything, and then installing it, or should I just stay on Fallout 3 and don't touch my PS3 until I get bored with Fallout [which I have become]
To put it simply, it does exactly what it says on the tin. It does what Sony promised. Although, that isn't much as they didn't exactly lather (sp?) it in features.
I played it for about an hour, talked to a random person, realised we both liked Call of Duty and then trundled off to blow up Nazi Zombies.
'Nuff said really.
It does make a good access way to people that have PS3s. As we're a small tribe, finding local friends that have paid that much for the console is like finding Pandora's Box. So, Home does help make new friends. But most people just want cyber sex, which is very pathetic.
It looks like Second Life, which I found boring and sucky. I don't really see the point in Home, like I didn't see the point of the NXE Avatars. Added functionality which I don't use as I use my console for... drumroll please... playing games.
I still havn't found out how to sit down on the ground yet.

Expect they are all jailbate.
Whoever says ps3 fanboys are btter then 360s.. Well on home it seems it pulls a switcheroo. A lot of 13, 14 year old girls who make fun of other girls other then to be twats. And then play along when they get raved on and then turn into a total bitch.

For me it's the opposite really. Everyone's generally nice. Though for some reason, there's an epidemic of people saying "****o" alot. Those are the exact characters they use, they just keep on saying "****o". I'm assuming it's "fucko" or something, ut I have no idea why everyone says it...
