Dragon age: Origins

Any DLC for Halo 3 and Left 4 dead.

That's really it. :-\

Dragon Age looks great though, sucks that us console gamers have to wait until this time NEXT year.

4. No level of abstraction can exist after Vaporware!
3. Vaporware. If it's not released, I can't try em'.
3a. Here's hoping Heavy Duty won't be Vaporware.
2. Released games. Can't judge em' till I try em'.
2a. Next Mass Effect installment.
2b. Brutal Legend... but I'm really holding out for Psychonauts 2.
2c. Geez, I don't even know what'll be released in 2009 for sure yet.
1. Whatever crappy game I'll be making. Hey, it'll be my baby.

1) Street Fighter 4 (PC)
Haven't played Street Fighter in a while, and I've never actually owned a Street Fighter game. Also, as a fighting game, it'll be a damn good addition to my PC game lineup (Starcraft, Halo, Orange Box, Counter-Strike, Devil May Cry 3, and Devil May Cry 4).

2) Starcraft 2 (PC)
Me and one of my friends have some good matches of Starcraft against each other from time to time. The custom scenario maps provided long hours of fun.

3) MadWorld (Wii)
Apparently, this is going to be the spiritual sequel to God Hand (a beat-em-up that I've never played, but heard good things about, and I do like me some beat-em-up). I pray that the game doesn't fall into the trap of "flail Wii remote to do a basic attack combo!" Seeing as how I don't know much about the game, I have a feeling it'll fall short of my expectations.

4) House of the Dead Overkill (Don't exactly remember what the subtitle was, but I'm pretty sure it was Overkill) (Wii)
Supposedly, a House of the Dead version of Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, which rocked, but had some problems. (Knife spam vs leeches/dogs, Shotgun trick, etc) Doubt I'll actually buy it though (I have a feeling it'll probably end up falling short of my expectations, much like numerous Wii games have in the past).

Ok, so maybe my standards are high. But saving money's going to be essential for my survival in the next couple of years.

Fan and liked the others. Good enough?

Alright, for Riddick I heard that Escape from Butcher Bay was amazing and Assault on Dark Athena is a remake. And for Dragon Age I just like BioWare.

I don't even know what games are coming out next year...Ratchet and Clank definitely if that comes out. The new half life. I don't think No More Heroes 2 is coming out next year though. I think it's supposed to be 2010 before we see that.

Oh geez, how could I forget about Dragon Quest IX? Okay, that would probably squeeze on my list in front of Diablo 3.

DQ 9 is coming out?

That could definitely be up there.

Hopefully I like it better than I liked the last one.

There are a bunch of games that I'm looking forward to, like Diablo III, Bioshock 2, Halo Wars... but the thing that I'm looking forward to the most is the as of yet untitled Harmonix/MTV "Beatles" game. I'm so surprised that they were able to get the license. :D

I don't know if it's going to be a Rock Band expansion or what, but I am totally up for some Beatles in my music games.

The only game I would buy brand new next year would be Final Fantasy XIII... if it comes out. As for things I will try to play and/or wait for on sale for less than 30 bucks.

Note: Only listing games I know for sure are announced and scheduled for 2009

Resident Evil 5, Bayonetta, Sabotuer, Prototype, Street Fighter 4, Call Of Duty 6, Bioshock 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Halo Wars, and Alan Wake

Im sure there are a lot more ill be interested in and there will always be Dead Rising 2, Mass Effect 2, and Assassins Creed 2 but none of those seem concrete enough for me to really be excited yet. As well as whatever Suda 51 is working on aside with Grasshopper Studios.

9. Ratchet and Clank Future 2
Word is they now have a gun that shoots train tunnels - one shot for the starting point, the other for where it goes to. Like a cross between Portal and a Wile E. Coyote cartoon.

-and here I thought "After QFB I may not pick up another R&C"

also, this sounds like a "most anticipated of '09" - and I've made that pretty clear.

Dawn of War 2 - A mixture of tactical gameplay, rpg and rts. Relic is really pushing it in terms of innovation.

Diablo 3 - A-Rpg? Check. Decent Story? Check. Balanced and fun? Check. Blizzard support? Check.

Final Fantasy Dissidia - so, a fighting game with all the heroes from I - X? From little that have been shown in trailers, and gameplay videos, this game has a lot of potential.

Patapon 2 - Patapon was original, cute, and heart-warming. No doubt the successor will be better.

That ^

Just take out the games actually made by Microsoft and that's the top 15 as it seems there is actually only around 22 games coming out for compootas next year.

About Diablo 3 and starcraft 2, do you really expect Blizzard to release something on the date they say they will? I highly doubt that: also resident evil 5.

Give the game a break - it cost a quarter of what a regular game does, and Insomniac were stretched thin making one of the best shooters of the year.

What the hell is decent about 2009 in movies? And you seriously don't see a game in 2009 to get excited about?

Come on people. There are some (hopefully) good games out there for 2009.

Prototype looks like all sorts of kick ass.
Resident Evil 5 - more of the same is not a bad thing in this case.
Bioshock 2 - Even if I get ass raped by big daddys, I'll love it.
FFXIII - I have hopes that it will be good.
God of War 3 - I don't own a PS3 yet, but this is a game that could get me to buy one.
Fear 2 - So far I am Meh about it, but we will see.
Mass Effect 2 - As long as they get rid of the re-god-damn-diculous driving/questing on planet X, I will love it.
Overlord 2 - ?? didn't know a sequal was in the making. If it is, I will buy it, and laugh a lot at my minions.
Assassin's Creed 2 - loved the first, don't care what any of you say.

That is my list. And yes Dingo, this is a list thread.

And To Dingo - About Movies in 2009.

Watchmen - if they don't screw it up, but I think it will kick ass. Loved the Novel.

GI-Joe - will probably suck, but still looking forward to it since it was one of my childhood toys.

Transformers 2 - The first one had the shitiest acting, but I could watch it over and over again, for the same reason mentioned above. I see it kinda like I see Linsey Lohan. Sure she is a waste of a human being, but I'd hit that.

X-men Origins: Wolverine - Looking forward to it, my only issue is this... Wolverine is not a PG-13 character.

Harry Potter - nuf said there.

Battlestar Galactica - final season, this show if made of awesome and hotness.

To all the people playing Prototype, you'll be happy to know that its out. It just got redubbed a little, but its still fully intact, and should be in your local games store - its called Ultimate Spider-Man.

God of War 3, damnit.

Tekken 6 - been into the franchise since the second game, I'm not as hyped up about as I was last year because they keep changing the release dates. -__-
FFXIII - Saying that, FFXII was awful and put me off the franchise a bit, but this game looks quite good and I hope it will be.
RE5 - Oh boy, I went there. This comes out on my birthday too :3 I have to admit it looks as cliché as RE4 and even further from the originals. However, Wesker returns as a main villain with a sexy voice so it is instantly forgiven.
Gran Turismo 4 - I think I'll get this for my brother, but I'll be playing it more than him most likely.

that's all I can think of at the moment, but there's probably some more games due to be released soon that I'll end up wanting.

15 good is very optimistic.
That is about 7 more games than I've played through this year.
Games I'm looking forward too, in no particular order, are:
Starcraft 2
Dawn of War 2
Brutal legend
Half life 2, ep 3 (think its 2009 release)
and then the list begins to thin.
Diablo 3 may come out, with blizzard who knows. There is an offhand chance Dues Ex 3 won't be complete shit, although from what I've heard it sounds like they are implementing every modern FPS trait I dislike.

OH, I know, mechwarrior living legneds. Yes it's only a mod, but it looks/will be a whole lot better than most commercial releases. Much in the same way the best game I played in '07 was Dystopia (without any even close second).

8.RE2 remake hopefully

Mine aren't in order
15.God of War III - It's God of War for Christ's sake
14.Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 - Loved the other Modern Warfare
13.Assassin's Creed 2 - Loved the first one
12.Starcraft II - Just looks awesome
11.Lord of the Rings Conquest - Battlefront and Lord of the Rings combined
10. Killzone 2 - Looks really interesting
9.Resident Evil 5 - Who doesn't love killing zombies?
8.Prototype - Love superhero-type games
7.Gran Turismo 5 - Loved Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
6.Ratchet and Clank Future 2 - Love series
5.Bioshock 2 - First game was amazing
4.Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction - Looks different to the rest of the series
3.Godfather 2 - Just looks good
2.Wanted Weapons of Fate - Loved the film and it looks good
1.Flower - Looks unique

I'll take a whack at it.

15. Gothic 4: Arcania - I say that extremely tentatively. I'll wait for reviews before I pick it up, but damn it, I loved Gothic 1 and 2.

14. Dark Void - Looks interesting. I don't know much about it at all, but the "mid-air combat" sounds original enough.

13. MadWorld - If I was going to pick up a Wii, this would be one of my top games to get. The protagonist has a chain-saw attached to his arms. What's not to like?

12. M.A.G. - 256 players. *Wow*. Again, I'll need to wait for reviews, though it sounds amazing.

11. Postal 3 - Why? Because I'm an immature bastard.

10. Battlefield Heroes - Big fan of the Battlefield series, so I'll pick this one up. Art style looks very interesting, as well.

9. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena - Loved the original and was really mad when I found that it wasn't backwards compatible with the 360. Can't wait.

8. I Am Alive - I know next to nothing about it, but the premise is ridiculously cool.

7. They - Looks a bit like Fear, and I'm always in favor of a good and scary FPS.

6. inFamous - "The game is a third-person sandbox world that combines elements of the superhero MMO City of Heroes with a roaming open-world, allowing the player to make choices between being a hero or an anti-hero that will affect the game. The player will also have access to electrical powers. The player will obtain them right at the beginning of the game." If that doesn't inspire some sort of excitement, I'm not sure what will.

5. Red Faction: Guerrilla - Now, I'm not a big fan of the switch to third-person, but so long as they retain the small bits of what made the 1st so great (which it seems they are doing, and expanding on those ideas), I'll be happy with it.

4. Heavy Rain - Maybe someone can finally pull this "free choice" deal off.

3. Brutal Legend - If Tim Shaffer is involved, count me in. Grim Fandango, Psychonauts, and Full Throttle are three of my favorite games of all time.

2. God of War 3 - Like a lot of other games in my list, I loved the originals, and will most definitely love this one too.

1. Mafia 2 - If you want to call Mafia a GTA clone, so be it, but I enjoyed it more than GTA 4, truthfully. Mafia 2 is, really, the only "big" thing I'm looking forward to.

Now, if only we could get a release date of Half Life 2 epi 3. Oh, and I'm looking forward to "Black Mesa" more than most of those games, but didn't include it because it's a mod.

Combined:

2.Any world war 1 game.

It has always remained a mystery to me why there aren't any WW1 games. Perhaps if a game were to remain faithful to the real combat in WW1, then there would be very little room for any '1-man-saves-the-day' crap. Then I guess game developers would have to make an inventive and imaginative historical FPS for once. Is that really too much to ask for? :(

Mostly it's because developers use this equation - "Game + World War I = Trench Warfare = Boring". And I agree about the real combat thing. We don't have to have a hero in EVERY story. It'd be refreshing to be part of the rank & file soldiers for once and not be special in any way. Just ordinary.

And there are some strategy games, but nothing really exceptional. I think there is supposed to be an FPS in production.

Not as much as you'd think. The 15 that I listed are from developers of a high consistent quality, the games already out and being tested, there are journalists who have staked their credibility in saying that they're awesome, or in God of War III's case, come from series that actively refuse to be bad.

I will concede that DC Universe online has the potential to suck, but the others, not so much.
