Press Junketeer Posts: 360 Joined: 25 May 2008 | Ok this isn't really thread material, more just a rant. But just to help, there is a feature that you can turn on that lets you auto sign in whenever you turn on your xbox... |
On the Record Posts: 5491 Joined: 13 Aug 2008 | Yeah, when you switch profiles on the 360 it automatically returns you to the main menu. It's annoying, but I'm pretty sure the 360 should auto-login your main profile when you turn it on. There should be a setting to turn that on or off somewhere, I forget where though. |
Paperboy Posts: 27 Joined: 15 Dec 2008 | Indeed. Or perhaps it's just your fault for forgetting to sign in, eh? ;-) Anyway, The Rusk makes a good point that perhaps you should consider using the auto-sign in feature: Found on the Profile menu, iirc... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1931 Joined: 9 Sep 2008 | Oh goodie, a point at the retard and laugh thread! My xbox achievement screw came before I wised up and got a memory card. I'd recovered my profile on a mate's machine to get some Guitar Hero on, came home and completely forgot to recover my profile on mine. The thing only told me I couldn't connect to xbox live, which I just put down to the dodgy internet connection I had at the time. Burned through Condemned, with a checklist to ensure that I used every single melee weapon in the game... half way through I wised up. Recovered my profile again and lost a big chunk of achievement. Never recovered enough to want to play Condemned again. Someday, though. Moral of the story is that $50 bucks might seem a little excessive for a glorified USB stick, but if you're regularly playing on someone else's machine, it's essential. |

On a lighter note, ive been trying to get a copy of viva pinata for some time now, cant seem to find a copy second for more than £30....which i wont pay for a second hand game unless its a new release and im getting a good deal. Might have the check eBay or some jazz. But yeah, as everyone else has said, turn on auto login. It's in the menu when u press the middle button i think. Sorry about your wasted time though..... At least you enjoyed it i guess |

the most annoying thing about the xbox the fact that it doesn't instantly ask for the user i like the fact that i dont need to select a user right away but when i put in a game all excited then the message for me to sign in really annyos the hell out of me |

i have both 360 and PS3 and for some strange reason i'd much rather want trophies then achievments no idea why i just feel that a trophy is more rewarding than a achievement |

Me. It's a bit of a thrill to have a little box pop up mid-game, advising me that I've been given a non-monetary reward for performing something awesome or progressing in story or performing the grind required by the game's developers. Regardless, I like the things. Especially when they fall squarely in the awesome category. |

I agree, it has killed two of our men so far. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 404 Joined: 30 May 2008 | ... On that note, I'd actually recommend Viva Pinata 2. It's actually pretty good. |

Yeah, actually, I'm the same. For some reason achievements annoy me but I quite like getting a new trophy. |

You aren't the only one, that's exactly how I feel. I like getting them, just to show people that I play my games(there are those idiots who just go straight to live) and that I'm good at them On topic. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3481 Joined: 6 Nov 2008 | Dude complaining about this is like complaining about shutting off your computer and not saving a word document. It's no one's fault but your own, and this isn't thread material. Heck, I reformatted my computer and lost all my Team Fortress 2 achievements and weapons, but that was my fault. |

I've done one better than that. Reformatted with every episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 on my hd. 365 gigs of goodness, GONE! I bet that's worse than your handful of achievement points! took me MONTHS to find all that stuff. |

Wow that's pretty bad. I lost my 5000 songs and like 15 movies, though. I also lost all my games and I had almost beaten Call of Duty 2. Now I'm going to have to start that one over again. I also have to redownload the plethora of custom maps on Counter Strike. |

good to know i'm not the only one ;) |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1290 Joined: 4 May 2008 | I've been there. Back when i first got the 360, I didn't have live for a while. When I first joined live, I started up a new profile. Back then, you couldn't transfer achievements to this new profile, so I had to redo Oblivion and a couple of other games to get the achievements back. Wasn't too bad though. Ultimatly i like the achievements system. It gives you cause to maybe replay games more than you would have if they were not there. I can imagine a lot of people would maybe have stopped playing Gears a lot sooner, if it were not for the "Seriously..." achievement (get 10,000 kills online) But with it there, it feels like there is a lot more to do with the game, and fun to be had along the way. I can't imagine I would have done every little thing in Oblivion without them, but they steered me in the direction of some good old Fighters Guild rough and tumble. Same with Dirt |
Paperboy Posts: 28 Joined: 2 Jul 2008 | I couldn't care less about achievements. They weren't there in the past and they aren't an integral part to the gaming experience. They hold no meaning but for those obsessed with them to flaunt and show off as if it attests to who they are as a human being. No significance at all and they take away what gaming should be about. This is clearly obvious in online play when you go to join a match and you find two people on a map alone letting each other headshot each other so many times until they both get an achievement while at the same time kicking out anybody who enters the map who REALLY wants to play the game. Terrible and gaming is worse off for it. |
Muckraker Posts: 272 Joined: 22 Dec 2008 | So here I was playing on my 360 on cod4, then I get logged out of live, 'Okay' I think and try to log back in: It didn't work. So I tried the tried and tested remedy: I swithched it off and on. Then to my horror I got the RING OF DEATH! Now my Xbox is broken so I can't use it over Christmas :-(. Others who have had the ring of death I sympathise with you. Greatly. Also Microsft has increased the warranty by 2 years so don't worry if yours breaks they'll fix it for free! |

So i was doing wht cool guys do on the 360, Playing viva pinata of course.
I sat for quite a long time and got to level 13/14. Now for me this was good, I had started a new game and had got this far without giving up.
I realise that no achievements are coming up so i press the middle button and it seems i had forgot to log in.
I thought nothing of it, i thought "Heh oh well il just log in and collect my achievements right about now."
But the Xbox thought differantly
when i had logged in i pressed thee middle button to go back to raising my Pinata farm when for some reason im at the main menu.
I could have killed somebody!
