ah yes, sorry i missed that out, i did indeed find it fun. I guess i was just being a bit cynical and narrow minded about the whole thing. It just seems like this could be one step towards having adverts pop during games |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 624 Joined: 8 Dec 2008 | I got the game and the achievements, but I wish I hadn't, I feel kind of dirty now. :P But seriously, the game itself is more fun and contains less obnoxious advertising than I expected, but if this does become a trend I will definitely not keep downloading playable ads just so I can get some more gamer points. |

Thanks for your contribution ;) |

So knowing that, i never expected much, so i was pleasently surprised that the idea was kinda nice. And that it puts "Yaris" to shame (a game where the developers where probably actually paid for. the mind boggles) |

Well hopefully we won't see a wave of other companies doing this. But i guess if Dorito sales go up because of this other companies are sure to see this as a great way of cheap advertising |

Not me. Gamerscore says nothing really. It all simply depends on how many games you have. Now, if instead they displayed total gamerscore divided by the number of games that that score comes from, then it would at least say a bit about a gamer's skills. But just the total is meaningless. There's also the fact that 100G in one game is a lot easier to earn than 100G in another game. So yeah, Gamerscore is little more than a number teenage boys can brag about. |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 780 Joined: 14 May 2008 | I can't really see why anyone would have a problem with this game though. I mean, it's free, it's fun, and for those who care about it, you can get some easy achievements. Really, where's the downside? |

Me. I admit it. I am honest with my love of achievement points and the sound you hear when you unlock one. DOD was a fun little game. I would have a different opinion if I actually paid for it. The little scenes inbetween the levels amused me. Unforunately I don't like Doritos so they wasted the game on me. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1044 Joined: 2 Jul 2008 | Just played it today with 3 friends and yes,it is quite fun as a way to pass the time. But it does get boring very quickly. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1341 Joined: 19 Jun 2008 | It's BRILLIANT advertising. It actually made me take Doritos over Pringles with my sandwich after I played it. I had fun with it and I got 200 gamerpoints for free. I won't complain and I'll probably play this with a friend because it really was pretty fun! |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 929 Joined: 29 Jun 2008 | It pretty much tells you that it's just an excuse to boost your gamerscore. In doing that, it succeeds. In everything else it just slithers around the "average" mark. I mean it's fun, and I think I'd genuinely like it if it had online compatability. But as it stands its just a stupid little weekend project that gives you 10 minutes of fun the first time you play it, and no reason to play it ever again. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 846 Joined: 9 May 2008 | While it's been a while since it was this obvious, this isn't the first time a game has been made specificly to advertise a product. Back in the SNES days, 7UP had a game staring their advertising mascot Cool Spot made. There were also games made for Dominos Pizza (when they had that weird claymation guy the 'Noid), McDonalds etc. Also a couple of years ago, Burger King had those awful 360 games made "staring" their weird plastic faced 'The King' mascot. So it's nothing new. I'm glad to see they made the game free at least. I haven't played it yet but I will. I entered three ideas in that Doritos contest and didn't even make it to the finals. Oh well, it was fun coming up with the ideas, making game art for them and seeing them posted on the contest website. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2904 Joined: 12 May 2008 | I think we're missing the point here. It was better than Yaris. |

what is Yaris? |
Copy Clerk Posts: 65 Joined: 17 Nov 2008 | I heard Yaris was an awful game knocked up as an excuse to get some advertising by Toyota. I never played it myself, that's just what I'm told. But anyway, I thought DOD was a good laugh for a little bit, and also an easy way to get some gamerpoints, but it was fun for 15 minutes, and when you have a friend it gets a little more play time. Not much replay value, but because it was free I'm not too bothered :p |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1331 Joined: 22 Oct 2008 | I enjoyed it. It was a fun little fifteen minutes of destroying buildings and eating doritos trucks, and then fleeing Tyrannosaurus Rex's and delivering doritos. Never mind the funny little snippets between levels. If more games like this pop up I won't mind, as A) they're fun, and B) they're free, so it' not like you're paying to have advertisements thrown into your face, so it's all good. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1910 Joined: 20 Jul 2008 | Hey, a free game, it wins in my books. It wasn't even half bad. I enjoyed the T-Rex campaign and how they kept adding more cybernetic parts to it, gave me a good chuckle. I got all 200, played the multiplayer game by just plugging in another controller and that was it. Once again, can't complain about something that was free...and fun! Edit: The same night I downloaded this, I also downloaded Aegis Wing which is pretty fun as well. Two free games in one night, free gamerpoints for everyone, whats not to love!? |

I downloaded this free game from XLA today and was surprised at just how easy the 200 gamer points were to get, you literally just got them from completing the very short single player game and one multiplayer game (My friend actually just plugged in a second controller and played the multiplayer game by himself to get the achievement as no one else was actually around at the time).
Although the game was playable it doesn't have a huge amount of replay value. The single mode is too easy I won't be playing it again and as there is no live capability, if people come to mine i think we would rather play L4D instead of this. However this post isnt intended as a review, what i want to know is this the first of lots of quick, play once, games with easy achievements made by big companies in an attempt to advertise their products? Or are we going to see some new, clever and inventive games that only subtly advertise something?
your thoughts?
and if you have played Dash of Destruction, your thoughts on that
