I know it isn't exactly an Xbox achievement, but Warhawk's "win a deathmatch without dying" trophy has always freaked me out. I've never played the game but surely that's impossible?
I like the random cruelty achievements on Fable 2, like for shooting a bunny or kicking a chicken, oh, and the one for getting arrested for public indecency :D
definatly all of the acheivements in 'Avatar:the legend of Aang' that just took me hours to complete.
UT 3 I took one look at that and thought, "Fuck that".
Yeah that one took me like a month of solid gameplay to complete.
Not, presumably, if you're extremely good at the game, or playing against your gran, or very very lucky. Also, people will boost for it anyway. However, most stupidly hard achievements: Perfect Dark Zero - Solo Dark Agent/Co-Op Dark Agent. This game gets unfair on higher difficulty levels, there's no way to save in missions, no way to restore health, and you can die pretty much instantly. Combine that with controls that aren't the best and you're on to a loser here. Guitar Hero 2 - Kick the Bucket/Guitar Hero 3 - The Inhuman Achievement. Two stupidly hard songs, on expert. Have fun. Rock Band 2 - Bladder of Steel Award. Complete the Endless Setlist 2 (82 tracks, about seven hours) without pausing or failing a song. You may want a catheter for this. Sonic 2006 - Hard missions/S-Ranks/Medal collection. Shitty controls and poor level designs will be your enemy here. Also, you probably won't be able to grind through to get these without shooting yourself.
I guess if it doesn't require matchmaking you could just set up a 1-on-1 game with a kill limit of five or something. Not that difficult after all (maybe). What do you mean by "boosting for it"?
survive 5 minutes with a six star wanted rating. this one freaked me out till i knew the secret for beating it. (yey hiding underground!!!)
Boosting is where a group of people set up a private match and take it in turns to get the trophy. If a game requires matchmaking you can fool it by, for instance by selecting a really uncommon language or region.
I hid in the Statue of Liberty.
I quite like 'The One Free Bullet' for Half-Life 2: Episode 1. It's challenging, but not impossible, and it's quite fun in the process. Hell, I was able to get it, along with 'Citizen Escort', at the same time.
This must be a kind of social experiment.
Hey! I helped my friend finish that...luckily I didn't need to pop in one of the many catheters I have laying around that past medical issues have caused me to buy.
You hid? Be a man and fight through the cops with an ass load of ammunition and an ungodly amount of good luck
Or do what I did, and go into the rail road tunnel that connects to an island you can;t access yet... and wait. You immediately get a 6-star wanted rating, and cops can't reach the area (nor do they spawn there). Edit: Think with your head, not your p...istol.
The Zombie Genocide achievement u need to kill 53595 zombies in left 4 dead
The Mile High Club achievement for COD4, i cannot see how it's possible.
That one was insanely fun to go for, just like achievements should be.
I got it after about 100 tries. What pissed me off, though, was that on my 10th or so try, I got up to the hostage part, and accidentally shot him. The frustration made me take about 90 more tries to beat it.
Some of the speedrun achievements for Mirror's Edge were certainly a little frustrating, but the hardest I've probably ever done would be beating RAAM on Insane. That was tough. I also got all the flags and templars in Assassin's Creed, but that wasn't so much hard as just time-consuming.
About RAAM, its damn near impossible without Co-op. About AC, I used a map site, and I'm missing two Kingdom flags and one Damascus flag. Fuck...
Yeah I did it alone and I think I entered some kind of trance when I did it because I can't remember anything. Yeah I used a map site for AC as well, but that doesn't mean it's easy. I've used a map site to get the pidgeons for GTA 4 and after I don't know how long, I have TWO different save files, BOTH just ONE pidgeon away from the achievement. So frustrating.
'Smile,' from Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2. It involves losing specifically seven out of twenty hard-as-fuck stages on a game mode called Sequence. You cannot lose more than seven times, or lose on any other stage than the specified ones. To illustrate how difficult this achievement is to get, there's another achievement that challenges the player to simply reach, not beat, the end of Sequence.
Ruling out patently impossible ones (Multiplayer achievements on singleplayer and so on)... Probably some of the achievements for FPS's on their hardest difficulties (except Bioshock, I got 'Brass Balls' without breaking a sweat) are just the most unfair at times. I know Halo 3 on Legendary wasn't exactly fun due to a lot of one-hit-kill snipers. Frustrating. The One Free Bullet on the Orange Box is a hard one I've never gotten around to doing. I heard about an achievement that's worth 250 points, if anyone knows what it is could they PM it to me? The biggest I've seen was 125 for Halo 3 on Legendary. Edited: I have Geometry Wars Evolved and cannot get past the first score achievement, let alone all the other ones which boil down to racking up a MASSIVE score.
You think that's bad? I head-shoted the hostage-taker, then shot the hostage. This happened on three separate occasions. Yeh, I twitch quite a bit...
i battled it out with the cops until 6 and hopped into an armed helicopter(police chopper) there i fought an endless amount of other heli's and then did my awesome get to the highest altitude and jumping out and falling into the water...it really gets you about 3/4 of the way out then you swim to shore and they lose track of you
| |
This isn't technically an achievement but getting the Katana in Halo 3, you have to earn every freaking achievement in the game......'nuff said
"The Shot" in COD 4. I never got it, but on the bright side I managed to temporarily take out a four-year-old with my controller. Newb question: How do I post links?
oh fuck yeah... | |
I ran into the hospital and fought them off at the door. It's not nearly as hard as fighting the army in previous games. The hardest achievement I think I have seen would be the "What are you trying to prove?" acheivment in Left 4 Dead. (Oh noes, we have to actually work together!) But i can't think of an achievement that caused me as much anger as the "Mile High Club" achievment in Call of Duty 4. The words "Veterans get headshots, not flesh wounds." is forever burned in my memory. The closest equivalent on the PS3 for me would have to have been the Big Boss emblem in MGS 4. LIQUID!!!
You don't have a save limit so the MGS4 isn't that hard (Although I never tried going after it, only after the fox-hound and succeded). The LBP trophies seems hard, though.
In GTA4 trying to beat the Rockstar times in coop ("Fly the Coop"?), its hard but what makes in impossible was getting people to do it correctly without fucking up. I swear 2/3 on the people on XBL are retarded. It took a long time, lots of swearing but i finally got it.
I'm guessing this is an achievement for an online leaderboard, which means very few people will ever get this one: Quake 4 I've only got 2 games for my 360, and neither of them have hard achievements.(the hardest achievement in LEGO Indiana Jones is the "It's not the years" achievement, completing a level without dieing and the invincibility cheat)
I actually tried that and for some reason all the cops still came after me...I didn't have much of a choice but to shoot for the head.
The 'Little Rocket Man achivement' is challanging but fun. The 'Lamb 2 Slaughter' achivement in Left 4 Dead is also hard, but requires a lot of luck and the right opportunity. It's where you play as an infected then incap a Survivor who has entered and left a safe room.

I have always liked Xbox Achievements, cause they seem to give me a reason to keep coming back to a game that feels like its getting old. I don't have a favourite achievement but although i don't find it hard, Serously 2.0 for Gears 2 (Score 100,000 kills) could only be completed by someone who plays Gears 2 way too much.
So list your favourite or what you think is the hardest achievement ever (or both), along with what game and what you have to do to earn it.
