Gamers are a pretty diverse demographic and we definitely don't all have the same tastes. No one thing is good for everyone, so we're always going to clash in what games we consider good.
And at some point, someone is going to extinguish your flames of fanboyish passion by pissing all over your parade.
So once you've peeled off your wet, stinky garments and warmed yourself by the fire, I'd like to discuss what games that you enjoy, despite everyone around you telling you how stupid you are for doing so.

I don't really want to see debates here... if someone (read: me) says they actually enjoy Halo 3, it's not your responsibility to tell me how shit it is - because I already know. This whole thread is intended to be for people to identify games that have been destroyed from a critical standpoint, and give a few reasons as to why they persist in enjoying themselves.

I enjoy Sonic Adventure 2. Minus the voices. It's a very humiliating pastime, but despite all it's short comings I still enjoy figuring out how to get an A on all those ridiculously irritating little various levels. (Someone very cruel and unusual made those Space levels and I would like to shake their hand)

I will always loathe the extra characters in Sonic bar Tails and Knuckles, but the game play, if had been more thoughroughly polished, could have become the basis for Sonic Team's dear little ball of blue fuzz. As it was, it was glitchier than Britney Spears' Marriage and failed in the eye of the general gaming public. Easily recitfied by pushing all the little extra characters, chao's under a speeding bus and slapping the Sega America localization team on the head with somthing hard and pointy.

Me, I seriously can't stop playing when I start.

Well, I do like the Halo games, the Gears duo(More Gears 2, then 1), AND some of the new Sonic games. I also had quite a ride with Prince of Persia: Warrior Withen, despite all the RIDICULOUS hate the game got.

As a response to Charli, don't be embarassed for liking SA2...Heck, i have friends who liked it JUST for the Chao garden. Actually, again despite the rage, I was under the presumption that SA2 was widelly accepted...Then again, I have a personal hate for so called "Professional Reviewers" whom hype up a game into SPACE and then when they actually review it they smash it face-first into the ground.

All I can say for SA2 is, it got me obsessed with Knuckles...and Shadow...and maybe even Rouge. In short, I liked it AND the first one...Though why I was FORCED to play as Amy and Big the Cat to get to the final story is STILL beyond me.

Sorry for my ranting, I just dislike Amy Rose...She is the Sakura Haruno, from the first Naruto, of Sonic...

Anyway, back on topic, I also enjoy the WWE games...This includes Smackdown: Here Comes the Pain, and the Smackdown! vs. Raw series. Not sure why...Guess it's because I've loved WWF/E since the 90's and have been hooked ever since...

All of those pissy little flash games that everybody gets annoyed with on their very first playing and give up on, I love em.
I loved Fable also despite the apparent general gamer dislike (so I've heard).
I thought that although it was extremely linear, it was such a fun RPG, which is very hard to come by today. Almost every other RPG has a huge amount of grind with which to destroy any immersion and enjoyment.

I really liked Lair, I failed to see why people were so harsh with it. To be honest it was the most epic portrayal of fantasy war I've ever gotten to play.

And no, I do not have a mental disability

See, I've enjoyed each Halo game that's come out. I got in on the whole Halo thing late because I didn't get my own XBox until Halo 2 was already out and I'd already helped a friend finish the first one on Legendary difficulty.
I like the story, I like the scenery, the brightly coloured aliens and the assortment of weapons. I find the whole concept great and I (for the most part) have a great time in the online multiplayer. I simply don't understand why the game gets so much negative attention because it seems to go beyond people disliking it simply because it's popular and hating popular things is cool. It doesn't really push any boundaries in terms of gameplay but I'd like see see an FPS game released in the last few years that did.

So people tell me it's overated or bad, or what have you. I smile, nod, then go right back to enjoying myself.

Mirror's Edge. I really liked the red and white colors rather than the usual line-up of gun metal gray and dog shit brown. It made it a lot easier to see, and I enjoyed jumping and flipping all over the place like an adrenaline fueled frog.

I liked the Force Unleashed. I can care less about how people are whining that George Lucas is destroying the series, but flinging stormtroopers and seeing their bodies twist and turn from being struck from an oncoming TIE fighter is always enjoyable.

Definitley, it's the first time I've ever said anything about it, but I don't understand all the hate SA2/battle got. It was a very fun game with different gameplay mechanics, and the later levels with Sonic/Shadow and the rail jumping was REALLY fun.

I, suprising myself most of all, found Death Jr. Root of Evil on my Wii to be actually enjoyable. ^^

Also, Silent Hill Origins. It wasn't as good as 3 or 2 even, but for a PSP title especially I thought it was just fine (I got the PS2 port)

I enjoyed the game as well, except maybe for the Tails levels. The 'battle' stuff was fun, too. It's how I learned to love Amy Rose, because playing her I never lost a race.

Mirror's Edge...I have a soft spot for slick-looking platforming.

Halo 3...I dislike the ridiculous amounts of hype it gets, because it REALLY doesn't deserve it all (especially Forge, omg). But it's still a good game and I enjoy playing it.

Enter the Matrix. Call me crazy, but I can't help feeling that for all it's faults, it's a fantastically fun game. Case in point: The Niobe level where you're being chased by an Agent. Now, since Niobe and Ghost aren't exactly on par with The One, we're told throughout the game that it's never a good idea to try to outfight fight Agents, only to outrun them. Still, I can never resist trying to fight them anyway... And it's a blast every time.

I can totally relate. Back when the game first came out, me and my Sonic fanboy friend would spend hours getting every last emblem, taking turns to finish the more infuriating stages (looking at you, "Mad Space"), until we finally unlocked Green Hill Zone. So satisfying.

Robot Alchemic Drive for the PS2.

The plot was horrible, it revolved around you being the heir of this odd foundation that made three giant warmachines, and space being full of radiation that killed everything no matter how you tried to shield it, and aliens invading earth.

Voice acting was beyond bad, seriously, I'm sure there are youtube clips, they are bad.

Controls were weird.

But despite it all, it was a freakin' blast to drive a giant robot around a city and engage in huge knockdown dragout frights with giant space monsters. Game got way too much flak from people for it to be that fun.

Halo. I'm not sure what my local hero Yahtzee has against it but I thought they were great fun. Also anyone who has a PS2, look for a game called 'Mashed', this game is severely underrated. It's a racing type game...sort of. Thing Carmageddon but from more of an above-view, organised tracks and no pedestrians in the way. Great game for having normal, non-gamer friends around. Skill is good, but no guarantee of a win. One of the only games I know that does this.

I liked almost every game that Yahtzee hated besides Sonic unleashed,Too Human(one of the worst game evar),and F.E.A.R perseus mandate.

I like mirror's edge

y'know, if it was just a stark red and white then I'd like the game's visual design. I'ts the other bright colours that mess this design up.

You win my badge of approval! Enter the Matrix was a fantastic game, but there was nothing more fun than throwing a security guard through a glass window with Ghost's uber drop-kick while using Focus.

Agreed. The very simple act of jumping of the side of a wall, spinning around and kicking someone right in the face never lost its charm, NEVER.

"Stretch Panic", which is basically "Shadow of the Colossus" for girls 8-12. I don't care what the critics gave it out-of-ten; it's fun. Besides, I am a huge fan of personal attack garments. And mushrooms.

Legend of Dragoon and Primal were both thrashed horribly by reviewers and gamers- but I can't help but love them anyway. I almost liked Final Fantasy X-2, but it was just so damn girly. The battle system was new-ish and interesting, and various missions, mini games, and what not kept it somewhat entertaining. If they vetoed the "Pop Princess Yuna" and "Girls can kick butt, too!! <3" stuff, it would have been much more enjoyable.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Ok, I realise that as an RPG it's awful, and the storyline and characters are very poor.

But, the combat system was so well done and so satisfying to use, that I've played through it 3 times and enjoyed it every time.

Did I read this correctly?
Those games won all sorts of rewards in 2005(?).

Assassin's Creed, if it counts as generally considered overrated, probably not ^^ Same thing for Jedi Academy.
