Xbox 360 or HDTV?

I get about $800 a month and around January 3rd I'll get my check.

I've been contemplating getting a 360 for the past three months as it is, but I have that common buyer's worry especially cause I know it's gonna fail on me at some point in time.

In November I bought a PS3 after two months of savings (Cause I got in a car wreck in August and had to pay for that) and I feel it's only right to get a HDTV to go along with it.

So, I figure I'll as the members of the Escapist to help me with my decision.

NOTE: If you come off as a fanboy I'll just disregard your post.

Well I would say go with a small, slighlty lower end HDTV, I got a 26 incher for 350 bucks and it works great, then with a little more saving you can get an xbox too. everyone wins
EDIT: when I say 360 I mean a 360 with all the trimmin's

I go with the save up until you can get both.

If I had a larger room to put it in, I would have gotten a bigger one.

The rule you're meant to go by is make sure you're seated three times the width of TV away from it, but I'm not happy unless it encompasses my entire field of vision.

Well, it isn't really worth getting the 360 unless you want gears 2, halo 3, or are a big fps fan. I agree with Hunde Des Krieg though, A smaller HDTV like a 26 or larger would be fine and would play great on. and it would allow you to still get a 360 later that has live and other great features

You could get both, just get a slightly smaller TV. Yes, it is possible for the 360 to have problems, but for a problem like the red ring of death, you can get it fixed for free.

There's no point playing a lot of today's games without a good TV.

Invest the money in the stock market. Put half in Take 2, and the other half in the top 3 companies who have had the biggest drop in stock price that aren't currently involved in scandal.

For 800 bucks plus a check, you could get both, what's the dilemma?

TV first, 360 second.

If you got a TV, you could immediately enjoy HD gaming. If you got the 360 first, you'd have to wait. I say get the TV, and get an HDMI cable for your PS3. Save 50 bucks on the cable by buying a $10 cable on Amazon.com instead of the Monster brand cables--works just as well.

Get a 1080p projector with a nice sound system. Its what I got (minus the 1080p), and I love it a lot more then the 40" HDTV.

If you've already got a PS3, get the HDTV. i'm not saying don't get a 360 - just that having one HD console and one HDTV makes more sense than having two HD output consoles and no HDTV.
Make sure you get a HDMI cable for your PS3 as well.

Fixed that. :P

Gonna disagree with the person who mentioned only getting a 360 if you enjoy fps's. It used to be that way, especially with the original Xbox, but not so anymore. I'm not a huge fps fan, but I play with my 360 more than any other console I own. Because it's sold through so many more units than the PS3, and it's much easier to develop for, the 360 has many more games than the other consoles. I definitely recommend it. I've had my elite for over a year and no RRoD for me.

All that being said, an HDTV is becoming standard for home entertainment these days. Every console will benefit from it, plus movies and TV watching are better.

Get both! The 360 is only good on an HDTV. So I would get an HDTV, then save up a while, then buy a 360.

Well considering you already have a PS3, I'd say for an HDTV, just to experience it with the PS3 first.

40in Samsung 720p LCD here, and I couldn't agree more Aardvark!

I'd go with a nice HDTV, since you already have a PS3. That is, unless you're wanting to play some exclusive 360 titles, then I'd split the money and get both.

HDTV first, then save up later for a 360. Unless there are a lot of 360 exclusives you really want. Then go for it and get an HDTV later. Or a cheap HDTV with the 360 so you can enjoy both at the same time.

All I really want to buy for the 360 right now is Halo 3, Gears 2 (just to really see what the fuss is about), and COD4 (which I have for PC and PS3). And then I'll need Live and probably two ethernet cables and a splitter to run to my router. So that's about $500 right there.

I'll go with the general consensus and say get an HDTV, LCDs are the ones that are better for gaming I think. Unless the 360 has alot of games that you genuinely want to play right here right now, I don't see a problem with waiting a bit and enjoying Discovery Channel HD High Definition gaming.

Either that or upgrade for a PC, I just wanted to get that out of the way before someone else said it.

I definitely recommend the HDTV. Get the big payments out of the way first.

and here's your second reason, that you provided for yourself

i got a chance to have a free 360 elite or a set of golf clubs, other things too but those are the only 2 i don't have or have a use for. personally i'm going for the golf clubs simply because there's not enough games to make me want to get the xbox and i got more than enough ppl who want to play golf.

tho the best advice i can give you is this - don't decide right now, go to sleep and have a good rest and then figure it out in the morning. you'll have your answer but it already seems like you want the tv

as for tvs i'll recommend the sharp aquos, they are one of the best out there but also shop around for the tv and look at the various connections it has on the back and what resolution it can display and the response time
