Yeah, I've been looking forward to this game for a long time, and I can't wait for it to come out. Hopefully it won't suck like all the other hyped games recently.
id like 2 know the date a few month before hand so i can actually get a pre order on it
Well, it's coming out in 2009 and the website has a counter leading to January 7. That's the best I can come up with for estimating a release date.
I discovered Prototype a few days ago and I'm pretty hyped.
I've been interested in it as well but my only concern is games of this nature tend to become horrifically repetitive horrifically fast. Look at the majority of action hero games like the recent Spider-Man game or Iron man and so on.
They weren't open world in the true sense, though. Saints Row 2 is the most recent open world game, that didn't bore me to tears, and it didn't even have mutants and tanks in it.
Okay, I've sorta had to hate this game on principle for a few months, ever since the finalistion of the Activision-blizzard merger, for two reasons - (1) this game nearly killed Brutal Legend, which I sorta admit is not something that you can really hold against it, but (2) its being made so Activision can flog it year in, year out. No, they actually said that, and used the word exploit. Yeah..... That said, theres something else. All the major point for this game - running at mach speeds, running up buildings, open world, eating people, tentacle beatings - it was all done in Ultimate Spider-Mans Venom sections. I'm not saying anything against ultimate Spider-man, but it got pretty old pretty fast, and that was switching freely between Spider-Man and Venom.
w000000 something nice to waste money on until red faction crashes, looks like it promises not to blow chuncks.
I'm really hoping that this game is fun. I've been looking forward to it for a while now.
So other believers do exist! Huzzah!
The game looks great, but I think this is one of the ones I'll let everybody else buy, bitch about, then I'll purchase it later at a reduced cost with lower expectations. Win!
*cough* *looks at avatar* Yeah I can safely say I'm looking forward to it. Edit: also since inFamous is PS3 exclusive, this is the only open-world, incredibly over powered normal looking guy game I have access to.
oh yeah! prototype! i heard of the game back in february but it seemed like it fell of the face of the earth. i haven't really heard of it till now. when does it come out? it looks great.
IGN has it listed for April 2009.
Eh, I'm not really that hyped up for it. Between Prototype and the game that everyone compares it to, InFamous, I'm more hyped up for InFamous rather than Prototype. Prototype seems just a "BAG BANG BOOM3Q^#!$^" sortof thing, and while InFamous is like that to it just seems more interesting to me.
I am the exact opposite. After checking out footage of both I thought Prototype looked like more fun. PT looks like Spiderman where IF looks more like Iron Man (the games not the comics or the movies)
I've been waiting for this for a loong time.
Hm... its asking for my age...
Prototype is fucking awesome. I cannot wait for the official release date either so I can actually talk about it. Definitely a game I'll be picking up, you never know if the inevitable sequels (yes Activision / Blizzard is all about sequels anymore, if they don't think they can get five or six games out of an IP they won't even look at it) but the first one is gonna be a great addition to my collection.
I'm pretty excited for it. It looks like it plays similarly to Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destrustion which is one of my all time favourite games. It never got old, you just ran round a city and broke everything. I also like the idea that the infection develops in realt time, not just at set stages.
I think the countdown is a countdown to more info revealed, not the release.
That would make the most sense. Also, I must have lumped this and inFamous together in my mind, because I was sure this was PS3 exclusive. Now I have something else to spend money on.
I can see where you're coming from, but Prototype looks a lot bigger, better, and definitely a lot more varied than Ultimate Spiderman did. I think it's going to to be comparable to Crackdown in that it's probably fun to play for short amounts of time, but not for hours on end. Having said that, I'm really looking forward to this, it's probably one of my top 3 releases for next year. Hopefully I can get my 360 fixed before it releases in Europe.
Game looks good i hope it lives up to its potential gaming status, if not then that will suck now wouldn't it? I mean its open ended (Right?) and there's killing and some other awesome stuff (Rightttt??) Well i wish this game luck because im looking forward to playing it. (Not hyped about the game, never really go crazy for a game...)
Yes, it looks exactly like a Spiderman game. Some of thoughs games are pretty decent, so this just looks like more of the same to me, without the awesomeness of swinging.
I've been looking forward to Prototype for a very long time, can't wait.
Alright, would people tell me what is so great about this game that it is elevated above, say, the original Destroy All Humans?
I heard about it quite awhile back, and it looks like an interesting concept.
Why? Oh, hard to put into words. Maybe because it seems to have the same appeal behind Crackdown: one super-powered guy against the world. Plus, it's apparently a whole lot grittier. I'm fully aware of the possibility it could turn out to be a forgettable throwaway title.
If it's gonnaa be something forgettable, at least it's probably gonna be something you'll have fun with before you'll forget it, eh?
From what I've seen, it's the tone. In DAH, you'd hide by projecting a hologram around yourself, while in Prototype, you can break their neck and absorb them in a mass of bloody tentacles. This also looks more polished, but, naturally, it won't be until we play it that we know if there's any substantial difference. 'Sfunny. The first thing I thought of when I watched the trailer was Saikano with rage where the existential angst used to be. Which, admittedly, does sound like fun.
I saw the game on a magazine at gamestop, it looked like something I would like. I've been fallowing it ever scince.
Are you serious? The guy in Prototype can run up from skyscrapers, fall from as high as he wants, he can form into different creatures or smthn, he has huge tentacles, and he isn't just shooting boring shitty lasers, he's ripping people apart. Plus, he's a normal civilian, not an alien. I'm looking forward to this game, since this will be the "pure, tangible fun" kind of game.
Is it wrong that I want this game to fail, both critically and commercially, to spite Activision for picking it over Brutal Legend?
He's anything but normal, even if he's not an alien. Tentacles, walking up buildings... I don't see Joe Average doing that on his way to the office. Not trying to be moody here, just trying to say... that by definition Alex Mercer is anything but average.
Yes, yes it is. You shall enjoy this game and Brutal Legend shall brutally lay in limbo. Ha!

I'm getting myself pretty hyped up for Prototype, as I'm really looking forward to if or not it will come out on January the seventh.
The game's website has a countdown to the seventh: http://www.prototypegame.com/splash/
Wikipedia says it's coming out on the seventh and the game is scheduled for 2009, which January is in.
Anyone else hyped as hell about Prototype?
