Jinpachi you bastard! With your unblockable belly attack! It must've sucked getting your ass handed to you from me by every single character in Tekken 5! I also hate Ravenholm in Half-Life 2, because there is about 1 box of ammo in the entire city, and about 5 health packs every half inch. I don't need health, and I didn't need health the last 30 boxes, dammit. Now quit making me use the gravit gun and give me some revolver ammo. |

That sounds more like a glitch; if you truly are out of the way, it shouldn't hit you. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1197 Joined: 2 Jun 2008 | Well Christ on a bike, where to start? Brothers in arms: Hell's highway - For the majority this game was amazing, except nearing the end where it becomes "Brothers in arms: destroy 88s" and then slides into "Brothers in arms: 4 guys and no cover versus 6 german machine gun emplacements and an 88 that will ALWAYS destroy your cover and leave you on a pitiful amount of health so that the next German can spit on you and you die. NEED FOR SPEED MOST WANTED! - This game infuriated me beyond all belief. It awakened a new stage of frustration I was previously unaware existed - Why are the ******* Cops so much faster and catch you up within a split of a split of a split second and ram the living crap out of you until you come second? Saints Row 2 - Cops have normal cars until you hit 3 star wanted level and they become fast and aggressive, can spin you out by looking at you and can never be spun out themselves. Also when all of a sudden a pistol will take off half your health. Vampire Rain - Enemies kill you in 2 hit, move faster than your crosshair and take an entire clip from an M16 to kill them. If it actually hits them. You'll all hate me for this but Heroes of Might and Magic - You can be doing so well with your orc archers and knights - but oh wait what's this but DRAGONS. Oh and your men will leave you if the feeling takes them Last but not least - TETRIS - anyone else built up a massive block only to never have that little 4 block line one come? That's not every game I can think of but they are the ones that spring to mind. EDIT: Oh did I mention on Brothers in arms you can shoot a german in the head, only to have him recoil his head back and carry on shooting UP TO 4 ****TING TIMES!!! |

After I beat the boss, and 2 seconds into the final cutscene, the game froze. No autosave. I almost punted my gamecube out the window right then and there. |

It doesn't actually cheat though - if you were in their shoes you could do more or less the same thing if you knew exactly where to aim (maybe if you could run it on a emulator type thing) |

You're talking like it's not inherently fun firing sawblades at shambling monstrosities. |

Granted, the stealth missions in an F117 where your preexisting flight plan would direct you into four flights of enemy MiGs would suck, but at least you could give the level designer the finger and approach from another route. No, it was the whole magically spotting you in the dark at 15 mile range and hitting you with *radar-guided* missiles that was enough to make one angry. The stealth missions tended to be phenomenally broken that way. This is not to mention the Artificial Stupidity of the A4 and Wild Weasel Phantom flights in the Linebacker raid missions. Also, planting an elite flight of SU-35s near a CAP area for an F14 mission and having them approach 100% evasion of AMRAAM from abeam and astern while flying 10-15 feet apart was just not kosher. Maybe you're supposed to avoid them, but I never figured out how. For the most part, it seemed to play by the rules (just devilishly hard) but it's always hard to tell in a game like that. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 526 Joined: 19 Oct 2008 | I am quite surprised no one mentioned this one: Lost Odyssey. I'm lookin' at EVERY boss fight in that game. Oh hello ability to attack four times in a row and deal about 1K damage a hit when I've only got 1.3K health! Even after about an hour of power leveling some of the bosses are still too much for me. :/ There's one particular boss fight that exemplifies this. The boss has two little helpers, pretty useless themselves... Except that they allow the boss to counter physical and magical attacks. Then if you kill, I believe the one responsible for magic attack counter, the boss gains the ability to attack twice in the same turn while using attacks that deal out 500-900 damage. |

I've never been big on the Football games, but my friend had it and I started a career. After I played a few games, I swore to never play that or any other Madden game ever again. Cheatery. My source could be incorrect, but I heard that EA admitted to having a "comeback mode" for the computer, where it gets better if you are winning. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 861 Joined: 4 Jun 2008 | Star Wars: Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. Rebels constantly sent these fucking annoying missile frigates (small and friggin' fast anti-friggin'-everything sip with pretty friggin' strong shields too) even though they didn't have any space stations big enough to make them! The computer can also move all their units on the planet map at the same time. You can't. There's a "Pause" button but you can't move units while the game is paused. Thanks a lot Petroglyph. And then the AI is able to coordinate all of it's troops at the same time. Pretty friggin' annoying with the units with shields, which make constant hit-and-run attacks at you and then attack you again with full health. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1513 Joined: 12 Dec 2007 | Street Fighter 2, Samurai Showdown 2, in fact most fighting games. If you beat them on the first round they will always notch it up on the second round often beating you. They know your exact moves as soon as you make them and know exactly what is required to defeat them. I think the AI puts the chance of blocking and the level of aggressiveness up. Mario Kart. Mario Kart uses the rubber band effect to ridiculous extents, though to be fair, it does work both ways. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1513 Joined: 12 Dec 2007 | The Bourne Conspiracy. That game was soooooo bad. The final enemy was so tedious, if you did anything but the required actions he would take you down. Not to mention the fact that you injured him with numerous explosions but he still had a ridiculous amount of health and was almost impervious to your attacks. Man, I HATED that game. |

I agree. I hate this feature. It is especially bad when you doing well for the entire race and should be miles ahead of the rest of the cars but the other cars "catch up" at the end. This usually means that the slightest mistake at the end of a race usually results in losing. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 404 Joined: 7 May 2008 | The AI in Soul Calibur is really annoying in the way that instead of actively deciding to guard, it'll only automatically bring it's guard up when you attack. |
Beat Writer Posts: 165 Joined: 17 Jul 2008 | Okay, I agree that Lost Oddessy is a very CHEAP game like that. Much like legend of the dragoon for the ps1. These are both pretty tough rpgs. But they don't hold a candle to the ultimate cheating rpg. Back in the late nineties, when everything they made was solid gold, square decided to branch off their mightiest franchise and give us a tactics rpg, calling it final fantasy tactics. Now don't get me wrong, this game is fun as shit, just tougher than anything. First of all, forget using your game shark to cheat and get lvl 99 right off. Random encounters scale with character level, and your power is more a function of your equipment than your character level. This means that if you grind too much, you will get your ASS handed to you in random encounters. Next we come to the AI. Ever play D and D with a twink DM who wanted to win? That is what this is like. Every attack shows a percentage of sucess and estimated damage. I swear, I see enemies hit ALL the time with a 2% and crit like mad. You learn to HATE chocobos because they are AI'd to ALWAYS run behind you on higher ground for the flanking bonus, and ALWAYS crit for massive damage. I've only ever beat this game once, but doing that took most of my sanity. I've NEVER sworn so much at a game since. It's a long game, with a great story. Definately the most worthy of the tactics games out there. They tried making a sequel on gameboy, but that was to this game as chrono cross was to chrono trigger. |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 526 Joined: 19 Oct 2008 | I stopped playing FF:T most of the way through the game... After a while I gave up because the AI liked to hurt me in ways I didn't know I could hurt. I've thought about picking it up again but... Eh. I rather like being sane. |

^this, especially corner locks. Oh my god...
This too. Vega was the worst, I annihilated him 1st round then all of a sudden he turns into God, knows every move I do, and then decides to glitch threw me. I hope he gets in a car crash and gets reconstructive surgery. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3920 Joined: 7 Nov 2007 | Alone in the dark (360), enemies surround you into a corner, and beat you every time you go to the inventory. You know, the more I am reminded of these flaws, the lower my AITD opinion gets... Damn... |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1341 Joined: 19 Jun 2008 | It's not literal cheating but I'm going to say The Force Unleashed because if you play on any difficulty except the easiest, the AI will not let you stand up. Then you're stuck using this one super-move and "cheating". But the worst kind of cheating is that it frustrates you so hard that you'll throw the controller at the TV and never play again. The AI wins. You never beat the game and they get to be happy little NPCs in their perfect little PC-free world where... sorry, am I getting worked up? |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 516 Joined: 30 Sep 2008 | gears 2 the AI on insane.... at close range they will blindfire headshot you every time with the sniper... even if you're shooting them or there's smoke in the way and even if you've knocked them down with a smoke grenade... |

The sawblade part was bearable, but for the first half of Ravenholm, with the exception of a single sawblade to introduce the religious character, all that was available was maybe 2 packs of ammo and those canisters of whatever that caught fire and made the little headcrabs scream in pain. In situations like those I would much rather have 6 rounds of a revolver and just take them out quick. |

But GOD DAMN, the guitar bitch is impossible to beat when I play with Chipp, in Guilty Gear X2. Only been able to beat her with Instant Kill moves -.- I've beaten her with Ky, though. After 8 tries. |

There is a way to counter the snobbish omgwtfpwner AI. Just grind your party well past LV 50, preferably 70, know the gameplay mechanics backwards, and you will be fully capable of counter-pwning the cheating shit of an AI. On topic. Tekken 5 - Jinpachi's unblockable Belly Fireball attack. Sometimes he loves to fire it twice in succession, even while I'm strafing out of the way! Command & Conquer 3 TW - The GDI mission that forces you to juggle power between your base defenses to hold them off and escort the incoming MCV to your base. The Fanatics that keep coming forever will drive you batshit insane. Left 4 Dead - On Hard and Expert, you simply can't win. You must be blessed by The Light to play those difficulties. Final Fight (Arcade) - The Andore enemies. They have this little trick where, after you get floored from them or someone else, they suddenly grow titan balls, run straight up to you, freeze you and Piledrive you to instant KO, and then leap up and pound you with their fat ass! |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1296 Joined: 19 Dec 2008 | Heroes of Might and Magic on higher difficulty, but at least the game warned you about it. Most recently, Demigod. I found any setting above Normal to be unfun because the game simply stacked stats and such against me instead of actually playing better. |

You know what... that and the fact that if and when you smash into a wall, you blow up and about half the other racers pass you while you have to watch your crash over again... that caused me to scream swear words, and throw my controller down... eventualy I just sold the game and got Steambot Chronicles... |

COD4 on the higher difficulties. Enemies will throw grenades at you to kill you, and if you break cover to escape, you get cut to pieces by bullets. I know you can throw them back, but it gets a bit crazy, to say the least.
