It was a scary time when Fallout 3 came out, many worried the mod support would not come... but it is here! The GECK was released the other week and slowly the mods are appearing. I have been trying out some great mods that really make the game come alive.
This great mod increases the number of creature and NPC spawns encountered in the game, adding more life and challenge to the Wasteland making battles alot more epic.
This mod works well with the Increased Spawns mod, with this mod you need more XP to gain levels. So you level up much slower, giving the freedom to play slowly and not hit the level cap for a long time.
But discovery XP has been increased though to promote exploration.

Oh sweet...I didn't know mods were going to be released so early. Looks like I'm going to have to check them out, thanks for breakin' the news to me. Although, there aren't really any grand-scale ones out I'd guess, like all those huge Oblivion ones.

I didn't mind the level speed. Perhaps they could raise the level cap and lower the speed as well. I mean, you get loads of xp for the story missions, perhaps that could be reduced so that you have to explore or do side quests in order to reach the cap.
I'm new to downloading mods, and having no luck with it so far. Could anyone help me with this? I downloaded winRAR(trial) but I still can't open the file.

That's the point of the mod, to put more emphasis on levelling through quests rather than combat. I'm sure if you did every side quest possible you'd reach the cap fairly quickly, but it wouldn't be nearly as quick if you just did the story missions.
TMAN10112: Where's a trustworthy place to download it(i'm paranoid of viruses)?
I suggest just using www.download.com. It is the most trustworthy site for downloading freeware/shareware.
Download.com has viruses in their downloads. My brother downloaded WinRAR from there and got some weird little virus. 5 minutes of Google later and it turns out he's not the only one.
Not only did they have an infected file, but they hadn't fixed it last time I checked either.
On topic: I'm bookmarking this thread :P. I'll be back when there are some more mods posted.

That's what I did. I'd managed to do almost every single side quest before I even got power armour training. I literally couldn't find anyone else to give me quests, so I went back to the story. Which I'm now powering through too easily.

RARLab.com The official WinRAR site as far as I know, and the one I download from every time I need a new install.

Ive got: the 'enhanced night sky' mod that creates a more realistic night sky, the 'play after completing the main quest mod' a megaton home mod that gave it an armory, a bar, a hospital and a science lab and the regulator bounty mod where you can recieve caps for killing the nefarious figures of the wasteland
BlueMage: Are there any mods in the works to remove the level cap? I'm in the mood to become godly.

Where can i find the regulator bounty mod?
It's not perfect, but it adds a dimension of self righteousness

No, it's just that there is of course no voice acting for the extra dialogues and there are a surprisingly large number of typos in the text itself. Also, it's best played on a harder difficulty, otherwise I think the 1000 caps awarded for each of the contracts could feel like too much of an award
The mod I would recommend to everyone is the Repair mod that allows you to repair similar types of weapons.
For example, You can use Assault rifles to repair Chinese assault rifles, 10mm pistols to repair the 10mm SMG, Rocket launders to repair the Fat man..etc.
I can't get the name right now because I'm at work, but that mod felt like it fit in naturally with the game.
Some people would prefer a mod to remove the weapon deteriation altogether, but I like it for some reason. >.>
One that I used to rekindle my interest in the game is something along the lines of "X's GodMod" or something like that. Basically, it makes you level up 5000 times as fast, and raises all your stats to 20.
Once I get a PC that doesn't run on Hampster power, i'll rebuy fallout 3 for the PC, install Oblivion alongside it, and mod the hell out of both. Maybe i'll rebuy Mass Effect for the PC as well for poops and giggles.
BlueMage: Are there any mods in the works to remove the level cap? I'm in the mood to become godly.
Yes, several.
for anyone who hasn't noticed, the majority of these fallout 3 mods are coming from fallout 3 Nexus, that's fallout3nexus.com They have a search form for quickly answering your "is there mod X" questions.
They've been hosting mods since shortly after the game launched, but the creation kit was released at the start of december, so there will be more of them and better ones.

Some mods i would recommend.
MMMF3 - Increased Spawns: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1415
This great mod increases the number of creature and NPC spawns encountered in the game, adding more life and challenge to the Wasteland making battles alot more epic.
Slower Levelling: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=97
This mod works well with the Increased Spawns mod, with this mod you need more XP to gain levels. So you level up much slower, giving the freedom to play slowly and not hit the level cap for a long time.
But discovery XP has been increased though to promote exploration.
Female Texture Mod: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=272
A texture mod that replaces adult female body and face textures which effects player characters and most NPCs in the game. It doesn't replace raider/scavenger or child textures. The mod makes the female faces prettier and more feminine looking in a subtle way, and works very well.
Hair Pack: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1146
I found that the default hair styles were pretty rubbish and few in number, but this fantastic little mod adds 24 new hair styles to the game.
My current character with example of modded hair.

Wasteland Mercenaries: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2030
This mods adds a NPC in Megaton that you can buy Mercenaries from, a great mod when also used with the Increased Spawns mod.
So for all Fallout 3 PC players, what mods are you trying now? Let everyone know the best ones out.
