Phishing Site on Xbox Live

Hope this topic wasn't done already, but it is a serious warning from me to you... DON'T BE AN IDIOT LIKE MYSELF.

ANYWAYS! Apparently the good mood of the holiday season has made an extreme n00b of me... I recently received a message via xbox live from one of my known friends in my friends list, and thought he was helping me out by giving me a heads up about a new update for xbox in the spring...

Not my best of moment, nor was it at all the case.

Moral of the story is: DO NOT FOR ANY REASON visit and/or log in to a website with this address (http://xboxspringupdate.999xx.com/) or any of a similar fashion. They have an interface that looks exactly like xbox.com, and I personally thought I was just signing into the website... God knows I will never trust any "free" thing offered to me in my lifetime, and for my friends that I play online with, I'll see you in a few weeks?

Lol. I hate myself right now.

You sir, are about to have your identity stolen.

C Lion:

Mm... I changed most of my passwords, and my credit card will be canceled within the moment.

Sucks to be you. Sorry to hear it, though. That's why I never trust anyone or anything. Ever.

...and so you post the link, with a caption? Perhaps just listing the site without url tags would be more wise. Anyway, I mainly just ignore more of the messages I get on XBL, except from friends that I actually know.

ChocoCake:
...and so you post the link, with a caption?

It shouldn't matter unless you actually log in to the site.

I would suggest bolding the word "don't" though, as a lot of people just skip through the posts and click links blindly.

I clicked it....Norton blocked it :]

Again, not my best moment and written in a fit of rage... Apparently Xbox has a "support team" working on this issue already... So when I called them thinking I had an answer, I find out they've known for awhile and have not sent out a mass message to the rest of their loyal gaming community... I'm livid to say the least.

sorry to hear it man, I've never been tricked into a scam any greater then stealing my Runescape password a few years ago.

Smooth man, real smooth. I'd keep an eye out on your credit report for the next few months.

This is what I've learned from Diablo 2 when playing online.

I clicked on it, and then when the chick appeared I backed out. :-\

EDIT : The site didn't do anything. Didn't even look like xbox.com or anything, it was something else. Oh, and the chick was just talking about advertising stuff on the internet.

EDIT again : Oh! I took off the other parentheses. It looked like xbox.com, but a few differences. xbox.com's sign in is on the left and an ad on the right, while the phishing site is on the right with an ad further right.

Happened to a few other friends o' mine too, hope to hear from you soon.

What did they steal? Did they just hack their account, or take their credit card numbers?

Either way, screw Microsoft and go straight to your local PD because that stuff is illegal.

They've been taking accounts, which in turn, can be used to take credit card numbers if the person has used a credit card to buy MS points.
But I agree, go to the Police(though god knows all Colorado PD's are useless) and they might at least try to track these people down

That or the FBI. No, seriously, that sounds weird, but that stuff is ILLEGAL! Even if Microsoft doesn't care, your local FBI agency will.

Mmm... like I said above, I talked with xbox about it, and they apparently have some sort of "support team" working on this whole thing... It just makes me angry that they didn't send out some sort of mass message letting everyone know, which is kinda my job here... God knows that this thread will mainly be ignored though...

Oh well! Not completely my loss... Wait...

Simply looking at the message doesn't hurt me, does it? I opened it, then deleted it without going to the site.

Note to the wise:
Next time you want Microsoft Points,go to your local GameStop and buy cards from there.
You put in the code like an Xbox Live card and you get the points.
Thats what I did,and now I have GTA San Andreas and some Saints Row DLC :D

i dont open unknown websites anywho...

The website appears not to exist anymore....

Well that's good then.
