a)Necromancer. | |
Blizzard has already confirmed that there will be bags in D3.
1. It's actually Starcraft 2 Seriously, I hate having to wait until after DIII for SC2.
hot keys for spells, not just hotkeying spells to become the left or right click. I only have the one but it's extremely important to me.
wait what?? | |
1. Return of all the D2 characters
1) Don't make it look so cartoony - i.e more Gothic as Abize said
As much as I want to see the druid back, and probably the assassin as well, I'm interested in what they've got cooking for the other classes. Witch doctor looks to be interesting, really. I want them to keep the inventory system with set sizes for items. Bring the Horadric Cube along for the ride, sure, but other than that, D2's inventory and stash were great. One was forced to make choices about what one kept. I liked that. What I'd really like to see is making gold worth something again. I remember it being rather important in Diablo, but in Diablo 2, it's just about worthless after twenty minutes of playing. I don't want a WoW type situation wherein gold farming becomes a job, but having the gold you pick up and earn throughout being useful beyond equipment repairs. I'd also like to second the "It's rated M for a reason" point from Putin above. What some people are calling WoW tendencies seem more like obnoxious people with too much time on their hands, keeping the blood and gore (demonic or otherwise) and not dumbing down the game for children seems a crucial point. It has hurt a lot of movies, such as, oh, Live Free or Die Hard. These was a pedigree of adult humor interspersed with rollicking good action. Then the fourth installment comes along, and McClane (or McClain, I'm not sure which) can't even utter his catch phrase? Are you fucking kidding me? Diablo III just has to hold on to its rootings as an adult game, and I'll be happy.
Hell yes. That's really all I can think of beside what Blizzard has already said they're going to change.
1) Darker While I'm at it, evolve the goddamn gameplay. Who had the fucking bright idea to make it top down view like D1-2? In those games they made top-down cause they didnt HAVE 3D. Idiots... EDIT: And witch doctor is just a pussified necromancer.
1. kill the fan base | |
The Original Dudes? Seriously? You want three classes and that's it? Boom, melee, ranged, and magic, that's it, have a nice day? And a pussified necromancer? So, you didn't notice that Firebomb looks more like the Assassin ability of (I think) the same name, Horrify looks like a mobile Grim Totem, or Locusts could be compared to Rabies?
Why did they only bring back the barbarian? I can't understand why they did that. He should have been changed into some kind of knight or lancer, let's get all new classes. As for improvements: 1. If you're going to give us tons of runes/gems/jewels, at least give us some type of pouch that can hold a large number of these. (seperate from equipment inventory). Other than that I think having limited inventory is a good idea. Just give us a little more than in D2. 2. All classes should be usable in hell difficulty, solo. Sure you could get a sorceress through hell if you had good enough equipment, but a lot of parts were a pain in the ass. Certain enemies in hell you almost had to get a group just because of all the elemental immunities the monsters had. Meanwhile a necro can just breeze through, with 12 skeletons and a merc. 3. Less worthless skills. They really improved this in D2 when they added synergies. However, I think they could do it even better in the new one.
This is a little presumptuous. None of us have played it yet and therefore don't know what upgrades should or need to be applied.
That's why we're talking about things we'd like to see. You can't talk about games until you play them or something?
1) It's not cartoony, it's just a little brighter and I welcome it. It's a nice change from all the other dark games with barely discernable enemies.
I won't say whether or not I think you've played diablo 2 before, but I will say that, to me and many of my friends, the realistic colours and lighting added immeasurably to the game. It wasn't all dark - Lut Gholein was freakin' awesome and wasn't dark etc, and it had wonderful building/creature/dungeon art - but Mephisto's Jungle was my favorite area, and it was dark and dingy, which didn't detract from it a bit - it totally added to it. To me, at least. That said, I don't want to take a break from diablo 1 and 2, with their dark dungeons, full of demons lurking in shadows. I won't say the latest diablo 2 movies have looked like WoW, but the level designs really do seem to be a mix of WoW, war3 and diablo 2. Not enough diablo 2. Also, I don't like the idea of 60ft+ mini bosses. I much preferred having single, reasonably massive bosses at the end of each act and a few powerful mobs.
I'd like to see much more content and length to the experience. Diablo II is awesome, but it's a very short and simple game, even with the expansion pack. What we need in the sequel are quality random dungeons and overworld areas with more unique features to stop them from feeling like random mazes of corridors. Furthermore, I'd like to see a lot more variety in the enemies rather than just basic palette swaps. Sure, you might have "twenty" monsters, but if they're all variations on the same four or five, you lose some of that sense of variety and discovery. The prospect of randomly-generated quests, however, has me twitching with glee. Should extend the replay value massively, even if they do get a bit repetitive.
1. The return of the light radius
1: Paladins still there, or a similar class.
1. make spells more diverse and customizable (The tree was fine but by today's standards it lacks options). 2. Have more then just 5 towns at the beginning of each act. 3. Make fighting more complex then click and hold until dead with occasion right clicks for magic.
Huh? I thought SC2 was being released before D3. Was sure I read it somewhere. As for upgrades or whatever.
a skill system thats less grindy, perhaps the full blown WoW skill system PLUS the full diablo1 skill system (ok you basically just get your abilities when you go up in level, but theres a tree to customize it a little, and you still get the tomes thing so stats have a use besides items) go back to the games roots when it comes to style. make all the NPCs non player CHARACTERS not just the buy/sell button and a fetch quest. make the setting consistant and fun, develop it. make the game scary again. make it spooky. if you want bright colors, put in something bright colored. if you want bright colors in a scene full of demons in a desolated landscape, either throw some pretty colors on the tabards of dead knights, perhaps shreds hanging from trees, or put some backlight behind the headless corpse spraying blood. custom items, i shouldnt have to grind for 10 hours just to get an item that does +10 fast cast rate. i shouldnt need to grind for an hour to get a 1 socket chainmail. not when theres a god damn blacksmith who makes enchanted items in town!

a) good gameplay (not likely)
WoW was grindtastic shit, and a horrible game in almost every way. but the skill system it used, with a few minor tweaks (not having to pay for spells, and the way skills level up) combined with the old book system for non-class skills (if theres no archer class, throw frost arrows(req 20 DEX 15 magic) into a book, no shield-centric class, throw smite(required 25 STR) into books, no elemental class? throw chain lightning into books(req 45 or whatever it was magic). no summoner class? throw golems into books(req w/e magic))would be a perfect fit for diablo. it would keep the classes different enought that its not just which avatar you like best, while still adding some degree of customization outside of a skill tree (warrior/mage type characters for example) and perhaps a bit of flavor. and the whole backlit corpses was just an example. im saying if you want to include bright colors in something, but not have it look cartoony... put in some bright colored stuff; purple dinosaurs look stupid, purple fruit does not. bottom line on graphics: if you want to draw the scene of a brutal massacre in a bleak demon ravaged post-apocalyptic hellscape, youve got at LEAST 10 shades of red to work with, plus any shade of brown you care to imagine. go nuts.
If you had to choose three different gameplay/graphics/plot/etc upgrades that blizzard could put into diablo III over diablo II, what would they be?
Me?
a) WoW stlye inventory/bag system.
b) Storyline the length of, for example, Tales of Symphonia (apparently a good 60 hours)
c) Upgrade the graphics but keep them fixed-camera, and don't bring in fifty outrageous bosses like in WoW.
