I played Bioshock for 11 hours straight, but I was taking turns with a friend. I did get addicted to Ratchet Deadlocked for a while but it was too short to report on.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Been playing it solidly since it came out (1999). In fact, I'm gonna stop everything and go play it now!

Oh man! I thought I was the only one who stuck with HoMM3... although 5 wasn't too bad.

Still, 3 has given me the most 'oh jesus christ is that the SUN RISING!?' moments of any entertainment product, ever.

Try this. A fanmade expansion pack that includes some elements from the newer ones. I think you have to have some of the original expansions for it to work.

Curses, I have no expansions! Well I DID... and then they went somewhere... into a box, and now that box is missing. Is HoMM on Steam? (Don't use Steam).

Bought the Orange Box having never previously played a Half Life game. Upon discovering that this was in fact to date the most wonderful game I had ever gotten my hands on I took a holiday from real life in Gordon's shoes. For 3 days.

If you aren't including World of Warcraft, Desert Combat would be the number one game for time wasting. Seriously, i pretty much played that game an entire summer, then at uni on average probably 8 hours a day as well. I think my 'played' for it would easily be over a year.

I'm scared by that.

More recently, Team Fortress 2 has been my digital cocaine of choice, after quitting World of Warcraft. Very well balanced, and delightful. Plus, i am excellent, hehe.

Have no idea, never used Steam. I found my copy of HMM3 Complete (the original with all expansions) in a bargain bin for next to nothing. You might be able to find it for a fiver or so.

The original Spyro the Dragon series. I downloaded Spyro 1 for PSP recently and really haven't stopped. It brings back good memories.

L4D, F3, I know if I start Half Life 2 I can't start it until I finish the entire game with episodes.

That might be it I haven't played enough of Oblivion

I feel the way you described now with Fallout 3 though right now, for lack of better words after beating it first I'm kind of falling out of it right now. My first game took 48 hours to beat. Because, I like to dick around. But I decided I'm going to beat oblivion.

Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne. I racked up a $500+ cell phone bill talking to my friend becasue it was faster than typing. We probably played for two days straight before one of us passed out...
Ooooh yeah. Mum was certainly pissed about that bill.

I had nearly 1000hrs+ clocked on the original Call of Duty, the multiplayer was fantastic for clan play back in the day. I used to be a master of the STG44 and K98. Its a shame the recent Call of Duty games don't do it for me, the console style re-gen health put me off. It took away the skill and the survival adrenaline of having low health. My heart used to pound with fear and made you fight harder. The new games don't have that.

I likely have double that on Counterstrike: Source before i stopped playing about a year ago. For Oblivion with mods i got about 80hrs out of it, with the recent Fallout 3 i've already got about 60hrs and its barely got the best mods out yet.

With Left 4 Dead if i include the demo i've likely got about 80hrs so far. Most likely some other games i played alot also but i can't remember.

But yeah, i enjoy my games. Even better if they get good mods.

Morrowind and especially Oblivion...I remember a few very late-night gaming sessions of that.

I've also done a few long long sessions of Starcraft, Tomb Raider, Call of Duty 4 and 5, the Journeyman Project trilogy...

Geometry Wars. Oh my god, I could stare at that for hours, and once I got good enough to break the couple million mark, I was set for life.

That's one of the few games I can see myself playing for the rest of my life.

Until recently, jagged alliance 2 (1.13 mod). Right now, combat arms can take quite some time and coding stuff myself also takes 2 hours more then the 10 mins I planned for it.

Half Life 2 and the Episodes, over and over.

Oblivion and Morrowind, of course

KoTOR and KoTOR II, more times than I thought possible, especially with the tragic state of KoTOR II's final third.

All of the Total War games.

Left 4 Dead is looking like it's going to be the next one on the list

I cannot understand how anyone can 'play' Fallout 3 or GTAIV and get any enjoyment out of it.
Personally, I hate nearly all RPGs (except ChronoTrigger for some bizzare reason) and the last two GTAs because all of these games force you to do mindless, boring tasks in order to get to the good stuff.

For me, the best GTA was Vice City. Very little realism there, but it was fun at almost every point and kept throwing awesome new things at you (boats, planes and helicopters) for simply playing the game.

To misquote Yatzhee,

"Why would you want gritty realism when you can fly through the sky buck naked and then divebomb groin first onto the face of an old lady"

Why indeed.

Recently, it's been Fallout 3, and I've been replaying through The Witcher as well, although it's hard to call that a black hole because, while lengthy, it doesn't take forever to finish (about as much as the Knights of the Old Republic games, maybe a bit more). In the past, my biggest time sink was undoubtedly Diablo II... more time was wasted playing that online during my teenage years than any other game, period. I gave it up after several years because I found myself economically unsuccessful next to all the hackers around me, and my character builds were all disappointing despite the time I had put into them. It seemed too daunting to start all over again, so I stopped entirely. Can't say I regret it, really.

My vote goes to Rome: Total War. I remember starting up the computer on a Friday, and then it was Sunday Morning... I was aware that R:TW had been played in the meantime, but I didn't realise just how much I'd been playing it!

Okay, I did eat and sleep in between, but it did consume my weekend. :P

For a "modern" answer, LittleBigPlanet. It was another weekend, 1pm. I'd just had lunch and was killing time until 6pm when friends were coming over. Sure enough, the doorbell rang. I looked at my watch and thought "what the hell?"

Legend of Zelda, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater One, Oblivion, and Mass Effect. I think I played Pro Skater more though, I wasted 4 months of my life to that. I was so hooked to that game that I was practically starving myself cause I would forget to eat. Too bad it went downhill after 4. I can't stand skating games anymore I made myself sick of them.

If we count MMOs, EVE used to be my big one, but I'm getting tired of it. My current ones are Fallout 3, Sword of the Stars (Think Civilization-style turn based strategy with Homeworld-style real time space combat), and Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

Must...play...one more...turn!!!

Oblivion(I have well over 400 hours in my current three saves, probably 600 in total with all my failed characters), Fallout 3 and Saints Row are all at the top of my list. Fallout is my newest game, therefore having the shortest game time, but I still have 70-ish hours on it from christmas. Saints Row has about 90 hours, unincluding the time spent online.

I need a social life -_-.

Well here goes the list:

Final Fantasy XI although it's an MMO so it doesn't really count

Diablo 2 - many full days went into this game ugh.

Warcraft 3 - Same story as D2

Pokemon - 1st, 2nd and 4th generations

Bomberman LIVE - Online is addictive

Geometry Wars 2 DEMO - Was broke for a while and playing the demo with my roommate for hours on end.

Bioshock - Finished in 1 sitting, didn't know anything about the game before going into it which really sucked me in. This was the first FPS I've actually sat down and played since Perfect Dark 64.

Dead Space - Finished in 2 Sittings, as soon as I got to the sliding rock part on the last chapter I put the game down.

Patapon - It's just great

Super Mario Bros 3 - Wide variety of levels, fun to play with friends and family

Left 4 Dead - Completed the 4 chapters then headed to versus with the same people in one sitting of about 6 hours.

Final Fantasy IX - Played through many times with full completion -Excalibur 2
