God of War, Gears of War, Halo, Devil May Cry.. as well as all of their related sequels. Gears of War, for example, is the pinnacle of mediocrity to me. It's not a horrible game, it's not a great game. It's just a game that is easily forgotten.

I thought this thread was supposed to be about games you SHOULD like, but don't for some unknown reason. Most of these responses are just "I don't like this game because blah de blah de blah".

As for me, I'd have to say The Darkness. I rented it and played it for about an hour. It all seemed pretty interesting with some unique features that I thought were pretty cool. But for some reason, I didn't feel the urge to continue playing it.

I'm not making any excuses for a game that fails to entertain.

(Well, I will go so far as to say different people enjoy different things.)

People rave about Half-Life, but I absolutely hated it.

Half Life 2, in particular. I always get annoyed when people gloss over the poorer elements, especially when saying other games are bad because of them.

-Levels are grey and brown.
-Gravity gun is a gimmick; from the end of Ravenholme to the Citadel Tower it is almost never used.
-All other weapons are dull and uninspired. The crossbow is the single most interestng weapon, but that's it.
-AI is retarded. Resistance fighters get lost and Combine soldiers just stand until they die. Most other enemies are at least excusable as they are zombies or antlions.

I'm gonna have to go with Mercenaries 2 for this year. Hey, I can blow up just about whatever the hell I want! Sounds like my kind of game. But for some reason, I could never get into it. The story just never interested me enough. I bought it to play co-op with my brother and after about 3 days of that...Never touched it again. Oh well.

Gonna have to go with Brawl as well, nothing to keep me interested really long. I let my friend borrow it, haven't gotten it back yet.

Super Mario Galaxy...Its the perfect Mario game (in my eyes) but I just can't bring myself to sit down and play it.

Last but not least, GTAIV. I love GTA, but once again, after completing the storyline, nothing held my interest after that.

Yeah, I wasn't really asking for games people find overrated (which is what quite a few have been posting), but games that are very much in line with what you're looking for in a game, yet they end up not entertaining you.

GTA IV. I'm a massive GTA fanboy and have loved it since III (the top down games left me cold) but as much as I wanted to love IV I could not shake the feeling that it was all, well, fur coat and no knickers.

Morrowind was another, I've tried it a few times and it sounds like my perfect game, free roaming olde worlde kind of backdrop, but it was just so slow I just gave up. I have no doubt I'll try it again soon, though.

This. Oh, this.

I hate the GTA games. I really dislike Oblivion, and from what I played of Fallout 3 I don't really think its anything special.

I'm also trying really hard to like the new Prince of Persia but the control scheme keeps pissing me off, I just find it... delayed.

Portal made me feel sick, where's the fun in that?

Both Resident Evil (the series overall) and Street Fighter.

I enjoy a good scary game, but finding a good one is hard. RE, Silent Hill and the like all don't scare me. A bit of shock factor but that is it.

I'm also a very competitive person, and fighting games are just that. I love Soul Caliber, Guilty Gear, and such, but I HATE Street Fighter and the King of Fighters stuff. Pretty much hate all the Capcom and SNK fighting titles except Darkstalkers.

How about the Marvel vs. Capcom games?

I especially dislike the MVC titles. Again, a title I should like as I have worked on stuff with Marvel myself and enjoy the Marvel universe, but MCV was just horrible.

I didn't like BioShock, and I should! It's a scary, atmospheric, FPS! I should love it! But I didn't. Also, Mercs II, loved the first, hated the second.

Yeah, if you're gonna get a shooter and want to play online, you need to get started early. I feel a bit bad about all the kids coming onto Live this week because they just got Gears 2 for Christmas... they're cannon-fodder (run into every obviously planted grenade, don't know the melee-gib combo with the shotgun, etc).

The ranking system helps bust up the predators and the hunted, but not much.

Lol i dont agree with you but i can certainly relate. I was really syked for a certain game (*cough* Halo 3 *Cough*) and when it came out i was just like "man....bummer...". I liked the story but the multiplayer and everything else was just bleh. It really presses my buttons when people buy a game like COD 4 and Halo 3 ONLY for the multiplayer and dont so much as touch the campaign/story mode. While i dont agree with you i wont burn you...even though it's tempting... *sighs*

Why would you burn me? I played through the campaign before doing anything online.

GTA4 definitely. It just gave me a real underwhelming feeling after finishing it.
Portal is a great game and I love it, but towards the end of it, it is making me feel sick - think that it may be some sort of slight motion sickness going on there and it is spoiling the game for me.

L4D

Was hyped for this game for about of year, it was a must-have for Christmas, but it really turned out just ok. Not the ultimate team-horror survival game VALVe said it would be.

Twilight Princess. Played through once in the Winter of 2006/7 and was physically and mentally exhausted afterwards - I got involved in a race to finish it first with a friend. Worst thing to happen ever. Now when I pick up the game all I can think of is the ruin that I was afterwards! G'lame.

Fable 2 when i got this game i though that i would play with till i die of starvation. I later found out that the game could not hold my interest as much. As well as the fact that you can beat the game very easily withought much effort.

Turning Point Fall of Liberty... Its a war game based in the 1950's. It is about what the world would be like if we had not bombed hiroshima and won the war. Sounds kewl right? WRONG! The game boasts interaction with the surroundings, its like ur the black knight from monty python and the holy grail and ur tryin to hump the worlds tallest woman... Obviously after he had his limbs cut off... Worst part is its 7 f***ing missions, and not like COD 4 where its 7 200000000 hour long missions, it took me a half an hour to beat the game. The company definitly ran outta money becuz the ending sux month old skunk ass. U freakin die, and it gives no closure, u start out tyrin to end ww2 and u sacrifice urself to do so, but u never find out how the war ends.

Also i was dissapointed with Full Auto, i assumed it was gonna be a twisted metal clone, but it just sucked. i quit on the first race cuz it was so damn bad.

Oh and SWAT target liberty for PSP. That one seems like it came from crapapalooza, it woulda been sweet if it was first person, but instead it was third, but it was a weird overhead view, like u looked down at everything.

Curiosity, how come so many ppl dont like GTA 4? i mean i undestand not liking the story mode, but still, awesome sandboxing in my opinion.

I'm going to go way out on a limb here and say Halo. I picked it up for $20 for the PC and installed it thinking, "All right. I'm gonna blow some shit up and have some fun". I got as far as to the Halo planet's surface (level 2 or something) and just lost interest. I can't quite figure out why it didn't click with me, because by all rights it should. I still have it, so maybe I'll try again another time.

Enchanted Arms, the "accessible JRPG", was such a festival of mediocrity I couldn't bear to persevere after my first play. I utterly despise that game...

Yeah, GTA IV was a big disappointment.

Lacked the excessive blood from earlier games and all-over didn't have enough fun innit...

- Bioshock. Didn't scare me, the storyline not as interesting as it hyped itself to be, the multiple path crap is irritating in an FPS and for a game that's so much a shooter and so little an RPG, the aiming was way off. It's certainly not a bad game, but all these completely ruined it for me.
- Morrowind. Tried a billion times to get into it, even added mods to make it prettier, but I always ended up dropping it.
- Resident Evil 4. Acts like an action game, plays like a suped-up survival horror. And there's nothing even remotely scary about it.
- Half-Life 2. Actually, it's not so much that I didn't enjoy it, but after so much wait, I was let down. Still believe that the first was far better.
- GTA: San Andreas. Boring, full of itself and on a dated engine.

- Splinter Cell: Double Agent
- StarCraft
- Half-Life 2 (except Episode 2, I liked that one)
- Final Fantasy.
EDIT: - The Elder Scrolls. Any of them.

Woe Is You:
Have you ever ended up with a game that has everything you want from it but for whatever reason you can't get into it at all?

Actually, no. Name any game that I don't like and I can articulate exactly *why* I don't like it.

A few things were decently creepy, but most of it was just too silly. The game had terrible controls, and which pretty much meant that they had to limit themselves to extremely simplistic enemies, since anything else would have been impossible to fight. Vastly overrated.

Halo and the Half-Life series. I guess a lot of it has to do with my dislike of fps games, but those two franchises in particular have never managed to draw me in, unlike doom, heretic, rise of the triads or more recently, Left 4 Dead.

Definitely Portal. I've seemed to notice that a lot of people love this game but I just couldn't enjoy it. Sure it had its' witty line here and there but I just didn't see what the commotion was about.
