Fantasy of course. Why? Fantasy has more memorable characters!

I'm serious. I can't think of one character in a Sci-Fi game who is memorable.

What about Gordon Freeman?

I haven't played any Half-Life game so I didn't knew that it is a Sci-Fi game.

To clarify, you said "Sci-fi game" not, "Sci-fi RPG". As for a memorable sci-fi character, how about Revan from Knights of the Old Republic? Or HK-47?

I'm not really a fan of KotOR but okay Revan is memorable.

Master Chief? Sgt Johnson? Darth Vader n his little kid? Gordon Freeman needs to be mentioned again - just 'cause you ain't played the game doesn't make him un-memorable.

You can argue about Darth Vader because the movies made him memorable and not the games.

And Master Chief is maybe memorable to some people but not to me.

I don't say that Gordon isn't memorable because I haven't played the games. I said I didn't knew that Half-Life is a Sci-Fi game.

What *is* memorable to you?

Few years ago I'd say fantasy for sure, but I'd rather fly a spaceship then fight skeletons again.

I can't wait for The Witcher 2 though.

And Master Chief... Don't kill me folks! I'm just saying, a lot of people know who that guy is.

Edit: Oh, someone already addressed the issue above... hark at me for scrolling to the bottom...
You may kill me now, folks.

Fallout 3 is an amazing game with both good graphics and great game play. Which can easily rival Oblivion, Mean while many still would choose Oblivion due to the fact of it relating to Fantasy where Fallout 3 is Sci-Fi. Which one do you prefer when playing an RPG?

...Why choose? In Fallout you got melee AND ranged to pick at will, so if you prefer melee weapons, make yourself a shishkebab :D

Personally I prefer Sci-fi because, to me, it's just more immersive... It feels more real and justifiable... Seemingly coherent high tech makes more sense than "magic!".

Fantasy please =) Dwarves, Axes, Gold, Magic, Mystical creatures, quests etc... Definatly Fantasy is the way to go for me, I adore the simplicity entwined in the complexity and intricate nature of it all. Im a huge Lord of the Rings fan, anything related to Arda and Middle - Earth. Also Warhammer to an extent, but not as deep set a traditional LotR. God bless Tolkien. Great man.

It's allright. I chose Freean because he's more specific and, y'know, he's named, and he's a person. Anybody could be in the Spartan's armor, not just the Chief.

Thats like asking. Which is better a Blonde bisexual nymphomaniac or a Brunnette bisexual nymphomaniac. If they had a baby that accquired the best of both games then that would be my choice. Please put that as a third option.

so your saying in the choice between the blonde bisexuel nymphomaniac and the brunette.. of the same sexual extravegence yo would pick the baby?

Whoops forgot to End the Analogy. I was trying to say Fallout 3 and oblivion had a combined game that would be the one Id vote for.

Didn't vote. I'd like to see less of both high fantasy and space sci-fi settings, and more low fantasy, cyberpunk, etc.

And since nothing says a RPG needs to be fantasy *or* sci-fi, I'd also like to see RPGs set in the now, in the past or alternate past, etc.

A character is memorable to me when I have a connection to him.
